He was not crazy! (Like many are intent on labeling him) He just had a much greater understanding than they did. Many of the things which he developed, we now take for granted in digital form. Thank you, Martin. You were a genius.

I have watched this video dozens of times. Why is Martin Hannett not widely recognized?! He developed tools that we now use, in digital form, literally everyday. The effects that he help develop (now in digital form)... They are priceless!!!!

Seeing a glimpse of Hannett in his zone through the gentle and playful lens of Wilson is a treat.

Legends, both of these men.I really cannot imagine Joy Division's aural landscape without Martin onboard. And Manchester without Tony Wilson? Thanks for the post.

Take Joy Division's Atmosphere. Can you imagine that music without Hannett's influence? In other words, can you imagine it with instruments and vocals alone, without post effects? I can't. Hannett was a genius. Factory Records dropped at the same rate that he, himself, did.

You only have to listen to the demo of atmosphere to realise he could turn a scratchy idea into an aural masterpiece.

He's not even in the same galaxy as the other poeple in the room. I've a good feeling he could have an idea for what he wanted in a musical mood and is able to make or produce it. People find this approach difficult even making sounds on a synth, very forward driven approach. Exactly what he should have been doing. Awesome

@@gahb4326 No, not necessarily. You can be a sound engineer without being an artist.

He was a genius that's perfectly clear. Made a valid point of saying once that smoking weed is very good for your ears.

I’ve been reading a bit about Tony H Wilson and he’s a true icon. Indeed if he had lived he would be Mayor of Manchester instead of Andy Burnham. I watched 24 Hour Party People with a bit of protest, seeing as Steve Coogan looks and sounds nothing like AHW. I can appreciate where the frequent fourth wall interruptions and lack of continuity (like the driving on the motorway scene with numerous modern vehicles going past) allows for the film’s flavour. I can’t give 100% to the portrayal of Martin Hannet in the film, looking at this, and his skill, it seems a bit much to portray him as a foul mouthed yobbo who was insulting to all - he was massively skilled and this film shows the amount of effort that was needed. MH is saluted massive time from here : )
