Peter Hook has no airs or pretensions about him. I watched him and The Light at Salford Quays. They played two sets, one for each album they were doing that night. So there was a break in the middle. Pete went straight to the bar and started talking to me, which felt like the coolest thing ever.
' The man deemed by Coogan deliver yet another reason as to bang on about other reasons I have this on double disc with Rowetta too big fo rdeath certificate P fucking G and đarts were worse danger should be
It's mine. It's the old Factory 'use hearing protection' logo made by Peter Saville for the first night at the Russel Club.. Pretty cool to have a legend like Hooky pointing at you :)
Martin Hannett was not "recording silence". He was recording background noise. At the time, and even now, having samples of background noise of multiple locations is extremely useful. Not just for noise cancelation, but for all sorts of purposes. The fact that Peter Hook doesn't understand that is astonishing to me. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the tracks of Joy Division's mixdowns came precisely from the manipulation of the "silence" that Hannett recorded. The beginning of The Eternal, for instance, may well have a lot of the "silence" that Hannett recorded.
The reason why Hook didn't get any sense out of Martin was that he didn't understand and he wasn't on the same intellectual level as the musician that Hanett was.
