I absolutely love these strings. Have them on a Martin D35. I too like that these are not too "shimmery". They are more subtle when new but yet they keep sounding new for longer. They have a gorgeous mid tone and bring a new kind of sound to Martins I feel.

I'm currently trying these out on my 1972 D-35, my 2014 D-15M Burst, and my 2023 D-18. I have previously used the Titanium strings on the D-35, and I had previously settled on Retro's (alternating between Tony's & LJ's) for the D-15. The D-18, of course, came with Lifespan PB's from the factory. So far, so good. I generally prefer Nickel to Bronze because to my ear the bronze (PB or 80/20) have a slight buzziness at the edge, like a fuzztone set on "just barely". The Nickel strings ring clearer, less fuzz, more note.

Really wonderful playing! Goodness, I came to inquire of the strings but got lost in the journey! The strings do sound really great and I have a set to eventually try. They will go on a spruce sapele Taylor.

Hey Ben, the Martin Retro (monel) are a good match to the mahogany guitars, well worth a try. Lovely playing, beautiful guitar.

Honestly dude they could be terrible strings but as good as you are they would still sound amazing! I just bought my first pack today and I really hope the longevity statement is true because I play 2-3 times a week and I go through some strings.

Hi Ben, May you tell me which recording equipment you use in this video? Especially the mics.... great video/sound and playing btw... thanks...

No problem, it was a pair of AKG C451 mics straight into my Focusrite interface. 😊

Hello Ben. Nice playing. Just ordered some new D’Addario XS (12’s) for my Martin D Jnr-10. I notice that Taylor have now switched their preference to these now rather than Elixirs?? So, will definitely try the Martin Luxe after the XS’s. As one’s guitar ages I’ve noticed that certain strings I thought ideal no longer sound as good. So there’s always a quest for the perfect sound!

What type acoustic do you think they are best suited for? OM, parlor, dreadnaught? Also Do they have the tendency to create finger squawk sound moving up the neck? I purchased a set but have not put it on a guitar yet. I am think about putting them on my Martin 0000 size body. Thanks Great playing

Correct me if I’m wrong but these strings should generate higher output when used with conventional electric guitar pickups, since they have cobalt in them which is associated with higher output when used in electric strings. So if you have an archtop or a guitar you enjoy playing acoustically but that also has pickups, I’m thinking these strings are the best choice

You're quite right, they do just that, and work really nicely with magnetic pickups.

Sounds excellent. But which one sounds better to you. The 80/20 or the Martin Lux Kovar

I like the sound of them but too pricey for me. I like to change strings every couple of gigs max as my sweat is pretty corrosive and no corrosion resistant strings have proved any longer lasting.

Great playing as usual. What gauge strings do you use?

@@bensmithguitar Thanks Ben, I always check out your videos whether Andertons or your channel because I really enjoy your acoustic work. Like you I play electric but my forte is more acoustic. We have many of the same influences, Ry Cooder, Bert Jansch etc.

How do they compare to the Martin Retros?

While you are a fantastic guitar player, I'll never understand the idiotic faces some players try to impress us with.
