I was lucky enough to see this lineup, around 1984, in Malvern, England. The sheer joy of music making was abundantly clear, from the first note struck. Stephane was like a beaming angel on stage and Martin's effortless virtuosity blew me away. The whole evening left me in a state of bliss, for many days after. Happy memories! Thanks for posting this.

Grappelli is a youthful 77, and Taylor a mature 20 years old at the time of this concert. One of the last times I saw Grappelli play was at the Auditorium des Halles in Paris in 1992, with Marc Fosset and J.C. Viret . The only difference was that at 85, he sat down to play. At one point, the sound system went down, and we were treated to 15 minutes of truly acoustic jazz. A true giant, who is practically unknown today by French men and women under 40.

Martin Taylor was 28 when this recorded, NOT 20 !!

@@kevinmanns7170 His moustache was 20 though. Martin was always a very 'advanced' guitarist.

Merveilleux Stéphane, sa musique, son style, sa générosité nous enchanterons longtemps. Au Mans en 1981, j'ai eu la chance de le voir et l'écouter en vrai, accompagné par Martin Taylor et Marcel Azzola. Inoubliable !

Well what can you say, I mean, this is talent of the highest quality, so glad I stumbled on a Stephane and Martin album years ago as Martin is one of the greatest jazz guitarists I've ever heard....and 20 years old here!!

Martyn is 29 here... I was a sound engineer at a concert in 1980 with the similar quartet with John Etheridge and Lenny Bush... they were the nicest guys...

Great musicianship and they’re loving and enjoying it as much as the audience. Saw Stephan Grapelli many times and he always seemed overwhelmed by the response and applause, almost as if to say ‘what’s all the fuss about?’ A lovely guy!

I did the sound system for them in 1981... when The Maestro Stefanne , Martyn , John Etheridge and Lenny Bush were the item.. they were involved in a breakdown and were 2 hours late! My sound system had overheated, due to me having to entertain the audience with jazz cassettes. and 15 minutes into their first session performance was smoking! They took a break while I sorted out the P/A ... great musicians, good humour and respect for my problems! ... True Artists! ... unlike some lesser known people I have had to work with! ..

I had the great pleasure of experiencing Stephane Grappelli accompanied by the Diz Dizzley Trio at Ronnie Scotts in the seventies with my, late, father. So, it has been wonderful to discover this terrific performance of the old great playing with you, Martin. A delicious performance. Thank you.

Martin, thank you for posting this great concert; it brings back memories of seeing you with Stephane at the Bradford Alhambra in 1983. I've managed to see you more recently of course, still playing better than ever, but how we've all changed over the years! Please let's have some more gigs in the London area with Alison, I've yet to catch the two of you together.

We can play all the Paganini and Weiniawski we want, but this guy has some serious chops. I've been playing with some bands recently, and improvising can be more horrifying than having the notes in front of you! And, Surrey with a Fringe on Top is just brilliant!

"I'll Remember April" - a popular song and jazz standard with music by Gene de Paul, and lyrics by Patricia Johnston and Don Raye. It made its debut in the 1942 Abbott and Costello comedy Ride 'Em Cowboy, being sung by Dick Foran. It can be found in the Real Book vol 1. :-)

A south paw passes his gift on to us. The beautiful vocal inflections upon the sound of the guitar, in intervals, just mystical... would love to hear more of his capabilities in that realm. These chops, licks and see songs are just about the slickest thang ever. Thank you Martin and Stephane for autographs on my gold violin after one of your shows in Pittsburgh. At 67 now, I'm learning more about the history that i have had the pleasure to live. 🍂🍁💚
