Maruti Suzuki’s Wagon R 2019 has taken the sensible hatchback formula and made it even bigger. While prices start from a Rs 4.19 lakh and Rs 5.69 Lakh. While the starting price is roughly the same the upper end has gone up a fair bit, and there are some good reasons for it. Across the range, the practical family hatchback has upped its game by increasing its length, width and wheelbase. This promises more space on the inside and even offers an astonishing 341 litres of boot space. It has grown bigger on just about every front, length width.
Under the skin it is connected to the Ignis and so borrows the four-cylinder 1.2 litre petrol engine for the very first time. The older 1-litre three-cylinder petrol engine is also on offer, but only in the lower two variants. The Wagon R, for the first time is also available with a top end Zxi variant which packs in a touchscreen infotainment system, is available with an automatic transmission and is available only with the larger 1.2 litre engine. Irrespective of transmission chosen, Maruti claims the a mileage of 22.5kpl for the 1-litre engine and 21.5kpl for the 1.2-litre engine.
Safety quotient has been improved too as ABS with EBD, a driver airbag, rear parking sensors and seatbelt reminder for front seats is offered as standard. A passenger airbag is standard on the top end Z variant and is available as an option on the lower variants. The Wagon R is available in six colours - Silky Silver, Magna Grey, Autumn Orange, Nutmeg Brown, Poolside Blue and Superior White.
