Marv probably made 1000 times more money in these 30 seconds than in his entire career. They should have included Choo Choo Coleman and Hot Rod Kanehl.

The one and only Marvelous Marv---------he will always be remembered for being a buffoon, though I am sure some of the stories about him are exaggerated. He actually was a pretty good power hitter in minor leagues, and once hit 16 in majors---back in those days, 16 hrs was a pretty good amount

Reds fan here, I despise Mets fans going back to the 73 NLCS. That said, I do have a begrudging respect for their loyalty. That first team was a disaster, but the worse they did the more they were embraced. Marv Throneberry was the embodiment of that futility, and subsequently the love of the fans. 69 must have been a sweet year for them.

I just remember the ad he did where all the other Lite beer people were arguing and at the end he turned to the camera and said, in perfect deadpan, "I knew this wasn't a good idea..."

There were a few in which he simply said, "I still don't know why they asked me to do this commercial."

Throneberry was with the Yankees for a couple of years before he became a Met. He started the season at 1b one year (I think 1958) because Bill Skowron had gotten hurt. He really wasn't a bad fielder.

Marv was a star in Triple-A. The Major Leagues were just barely too big a step up for him.

He did make a great catch in the 1969 World Series. Which surprised everyone as fielding was not his best skill.
