Soon, many games tried to replicate it. The character engaged in free-flow combat that built a combo counter, mixing in dodges or counters, gadget attacks, and takedowns. Dictatorial Soldiers For Hire Overrun The City Both Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales feature a faction of soldiers who end up putting New York City under martial law, turning themselves into totalitarian forces. In the first game, it was Sable International. Meanwhile, the powerful Ultimate Spider-Man Miles Morales battled the Roxxon forces. This is very similar to Batman: Arkham City, which featured the city-sized prison being controlled by the private security force TYGER. In Batman: Arkham Knight, Gotham City itself became occupied by the Militia, an army of mercenaries working under Scarecrow and the titular Arkham Knight. 7.Both Franchises Include An Overabundance Of Collectibles Both the Arkham games and Marvel's Spider-Man games boast massive maps to explore. This gives players a false sense of an RPG-like progression, but it's actually quite linear. Neither the Arkham games nor Marvel's Spider-Man games allow for any kind of experimentation with the skill trees. Instead, they feel like slower ways to progress the heroes. 5. Both Games Depict The Superheroes As Veteran With Years Of Experience Batman is DC's poster child with so many reboots and adaptations of the character that everybody knows his origin unless they live under a rock. Spider-Man is Marvel's poster child in nearly the exact same way, receiving four cinematic Spider-Man film series within two decades. As a result, the games both take things in a more logical direction by starting when the heroes are far into their careers. Batman: Arkham Asylum takes place around Batman's tenth year as Gotham's protector while Marvel's Spider-Man confirms that Peter Parker is a college graduate who has been Spider-Man for eight years. 4. Spider-Man Might As Well Wear A Utility Belt The video game versions of Peter Parker and Miles Morales really lean into the characters' technological sides. They each sport an array of spider and web-themed gadgets to use in combat, from electric webs to unleashing power web bombs that can take down multiple enemies. The Arkham games featured a similar roster of gadgets for Batman to wield in combat and when solving puzzles. There is an electric weapon, explosive gel, smoke bombs, and a grapnel gun - and that's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what Batman wielded. 3. Super Villains Are Everywhere To Be Found Both Spider-Man and Batman have arguably the most iconic villains in comic book history, and many of them lead their own stories. Both Rocksteady and Insomniac Games knew to feature few and obscure villains alike in their games. Batman had to deal with everyone from the Joker to Electrocutioner in the Arkham games, and Spider-Man fought the Sinister Six and Taskmaster. In both cases, the villains were part of the main story and side quests found in the cities. 2. Both Franchises Reinvent The Lore, Creating A New Universe Rather than trying to be an exact adaptation of the comics, both game franchises opt to take Batman and Spider-Man's worlds and reboot them. The many Batman: Arkham games did it so well that the Arkhamverse influenced future movies. With Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, Rocksteady now has its own DC universe. The same can be said of Insomniac's Spider-Man game. They respect the hero's past, but they throw in their own twists on the mythos to keep things fresh for the players. Their success resulted in a Miles Morales spin-off and a future Marvel's Wolverine game set in Insomniac's own Marvel universe. 1. Scorpion And Scarecrow Must Share The Same Toxin Some aspects common to the Batman and Spider-Man games can be explained as simple coincidences. The nightmare sequences, on the other hand, are uncannily similar to each other. For some, it seems like Marvel's Spider-Man had to have taken some inspiration from the Arkham games. When Spider-Man is poisoned by Scorpion and forced to hallucinate his greatest fears and insecurities, it is almost exactly like the Scarecrow encounters in Batman: Arkham Asylum. Both even feature the hero traveling through empty voids while being psychologically taunted by the villains' voices
