The designers of this game CONTINUE to make each hero feel just like the comic characters through mechanics. Rocket isn't just made of guns, he gets satisfaction by laughing as he blasts them to smithereens. Groot is a tree. So he hits hard and is hard to kill, but he's a living tree so he needs to be able to extend himself and feel like you're reaching out vines or getting taller, so Growth counters. The villains are always interesting but the scenarios are really what make them interesting imo. But the hero decks are always the strength of this game.

I’m super excited for Star-Lord, because leadership is my favourite aspect. Being able to have all of those Guardian cards as basic allies is going to be great

@@EpicGamingNight Gamora’s also gonna be cool with being able to use 6 attack and thwart events from other aspects, and I imagine she’s going to have a lot of event cards for those Ms. Marvel fans. Also her Nebula ally/nemesis is a really neat idea

Great Breakdown. This is my next expansion I am going to get, so it's a nice preview. The set looks worth it for Rocket and Groot alone.

It’s on preorder obviously, but that difficulty curve worries me as the game wasn’t exactly easy before. Not a massive deal if it’s more a campaign thing as I’ll likely face the villains separately more often. But the heroes are a must regardless.

I agree I like to play casually without having to build a deck specifically to beat a villain I want to have all my heroes built at the same time so anyone can grab one and go!

Ugh! They are both soo good! I like rocket and Groot better than Hawkeye! But I really like spider woman a lot!!! I think the guardians campaign is definitely more difficult. But I enjoy the different aspects it brings to the game! If you don’t have either I would say rise first based on difficulty level!

It’s both you have to take care of it before you can continue to attack the villain or remove threat from the main scheme!

Very difficult, but scenario design is unique and they’re fun as standalones. But I have no clue how to beat Ronan with Rocket. He hits for too much and Rocket can’t block or really rush out damage. He doesn’t have big damage cards like a lot of other heroes and you have to balance between playing a weapon and playing a chump blocker and cross your fingers that overkill doesn’t knock you out quick. And I fell like Rocket depends on flipping to ALter Ego for extra card draw, and Ronan punishes you big time for flipping to AE more than once a game

I have played rocket more and I definitely like the way his deck works but overall I think groot might be better?

I’ve noticed with the past 4 heroes: Quicksilver, Scarlett Witch, Rocket and Groot all have cheap hero cards. It seems like Caleb and Boggs are encouraging combos and playing hero cards over aspect cards. If you look at a character like Hulk a lot of his hero cards were too expensive for his hand size. I think each hero has their drawbacks obviously but I feel that Caleb and Boggs want players to have fun with the game.

It's a weird choice to give Rocket and Groot each other's cards as allies in their default decks when you can't play them if you are using two two heroes together, as you would be if playing this set out of the box.

This will be my first buy beyond the core set, i hear what you're saying about the difficulty but Rise of Red Skull is not available anywhere and i cant justify paying 15 euros for a hero or 20 for a villain when i can get 2 heroes and 5 villains for 40 euros.

Did you play through the campaign with the starter decks? If so, I wonder if the campaign was more difficult than Red Skull because the base decks have only 2 allies. I'm picturing the villain smacking you turn after turn because the decks have just 2 blockers and no stuns. It might be a flavor foul, but I'll bet the average player will enjoy this more if they pop in some allies from the core set.

They are harder in general trust me I’ve played with everything in the game a ton of times to recognize villain difficulty! Ha I didn’t want to go too deep into the specific mechanics of how things work due to save people from lots of spoilers so they could experience it on their own!

It'll be interesting to see the other guardians that will be available to play like Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax and see if they affect the challenge level of this game (not sure when these are coming out). I''m a bit disappointed that Star-Lord doesn't come with the game, to be honest, but I guess I understand.

So without having double-checked, did they just put out a thor signature card as a standard aggression aspect Card????? Shouldn't signature cards have an edge over aspects....

Thor’s Defender of the Nine Realms is still better as it lets you target any scheme, not just the main scheme.

If I'm playing as groot and you are rocket, can I play the rocket ally card?

You cannot because it would break the unique rule since they have the same name.

Atlas is correct. Scarlet Witch (Quicksilver's Ally) and Scarlet Witch (Hero) cannot be in play at the same time. They're both Wanda. Hawkeye (Hero) and Hawkeye (Leadership Ally) can be in play together, as the first is Clint Barton and the second is Kate Bishop. For heroes with Separate Civilian and Hero names, treat them as a single card title, eg: Iron Man (Tony Stark)

Thanks for the clarification. It's interesting that they built these decks this way for the campaign if you literally cannot play those ally cards (unless maybe playing solo)

The one upside is that usually team up allies like Rocket and Groot are signature allies baked into a hero’s 15 cards and can’t be removed (see: Antman/Wasp, Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver). At least with Rocket and Groot being basic allies you can swap them out for other cards if you’re using both of them as heroes.

Unlike with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (and also Wasp & Ant-Man), you don't *have* to. They're basic cards. Don't deckbuild with them.

FYI, when a card that has charge counters on it runs out, that card is immediately discarded. You don't have a choice to keep it in play per Rules Reference page: 10 under the section: Keywords then "Uses (X “type”)"

If you're referring to Rocket's cards, they're explicitly NOT tagged with Uses, which is the keyword for discarding upon removing all counters. So his Upgrades are not automatically discarded when the charge counters are gone.

Seems kinda bullshit that only 2 guardians are included in the box. This is supposed to be their big box expansion for this team and we only get 2? I know red skull only had 2 heroes as well, but there is no rule that says they have to follow the same formula every time. I'll probably end up getting this b/c its a great game, but the greed is definitely showing through on this one.

There’s a massive amount of content in this box with the five villains! If you’re getting these boxes it’s definitely for the campaign! I’m sure they could’ve done one with all of the guardians but then no villains? 🤷‍♂️

I think value on these boxes is through the roof! Almost 300 cards for $32 from certain retailers is less then half what you would get from magic and similar games. And you are also getting the campaign and modular sets! Lots of stuff here, lets spread the excitement!
