You know what makes this even worse. Inside sources are saying that Crystal Dynamics was developing a single player avengers game with story and gameplay first. But when the board of directors at Square Enix say it they demanded that it was scraped and in order to still make release with the new game they canceled other games and pulled all their studios to work on this dumpster fire.
No actually people had been asking triple A Avenger game for quite a while especially after Injustice came out. It's just the end result wasn't what everyone expected
When I finally got into Mankind Divided I loved it, made me interested in the series and was looking forward to the next game. Then this happens. Capeshit robbed me
@Big Scoot Yeah, I uninstalled the game as soon as the credits finished rolling. I was pissed off that they had the gall to have a post-credit scene and then MORE FUCKING CREDITS after that.
yea ultimate alliance was the bees knees of of hero games, yea its not aged like fine wine, but you know what, i love finding the c-listers that i never heard of. it was cool to play as iorn man but WHOA this guy with a flaming skull for a head is soooooooo cool!!!! there was magic in it, i hated playing as some of them. but the ones i loved were cool, there was even bounus for having teams, like the avengers line up, the fantastic four, street level heros, there was passion in it, it was back when the only good movies were spidermans and OMG I CAN PLAY AS SPIDERMAN?!?!!?
I prefer the cheap movie tie ins to this. At least some are okay budget games. Something like Transformers on ps2. Wasnt bad, wasn't amazing. But this is offensive
I love the fact that Charl compliments Thor's playstyle but even that is just a rip-off of Kratos from God of War 2018. They even hired the combat designer from God of War to work on the Avengers game.
@@sleepythemis Presumably not. There are many other great exclusive games out on Playstation (or out in the future). GoW Ragnarok, Spiderman Miles Morales, Demons Souls, Horizon Forbidden West, Ghosts of Tsushima, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, etc
At least maybe the avengers took the hit of being micro transaction stuffed live service garbage and not Deus Ex. Like could you imagine if they dragged Deus Ex's name and legacy through mud and doo doo by turning it into something like the avengers?
It's just how the story ended what I don't like about MD... Graphics wise, gameplay wise and such I found it to be at least on-par with HR. Especially the Prison dlc was awesome and I love the music in MD!
Remember when Ultimate Alliance was theoretically about the Ultimates universe, but they crammed in all the fun mainline universe stuff because "Why not", to the point there was a trivia game where you could earn extra skillpoints by remembering weird tidbits characters mentioned like Thor turning into a frog?
I get pissed of because I have friends that are defending this game and saying that it will get better with DLCs (they even spent money buying skins), and when I say it sucks they start to attack every game I like because they have no better argument.
sounds like they are not "friends" but posers. I had "friends" that would strangely defend crap games... I realized what they where doing was trolling people into buying garbage games. They kept doing it to people, convincing them to buy a game because "we are all buying it and going to play together, doing co op and multiplayer, it will be fun!" Then you buy it expecting them to buy it too, and they never do... and you KNOW they are making fun of you for it behind your back. The last game they tried this on me was Anthem. I saw threw it and called em out and told em how garbage that game is. They would say too, "DLC's and expansions will make the game better. Stop being such a lame hater" I moved away and stopped hanging out with them. Before I moved, they tried so hard to convince me im a lame hater and I am wrong, and that htey will have tons of fun with the game. Week after I moved they all stopped playing.... but they where so ADAMANT that they would be playing this game years to come...
@Lightsaber328 TheMan you clearly don't know who Stan Lee was. He did some shady things but he wasn't the one trying to change things. Especially in the last few decades
I think of it as more of a good thing. It’s always good when a trashy, microtransaction-filled mess fails as it should. One day they’ll realize pumping out this garbage is not only going to hurt their PR, but their bottom line as well, and things like this hopefully speed up that process.
before square used to be know for quality but now everywhere we look we see hate after they made ff13 ff15 and kh3 they lost the good will they had avengers is just what made people vocal about it
Problem is, it doesnt really hurt their PR, we've assumed trash as the status quo of the industry and who cares if companies like EA are seen as the devil as long as millions keep buying their sports games every year? The industry is not going to stop producing this because, even if some fail, others are successful and the successful ones are more profitable.
dont forget that left alive is also a squenix game. i mention this cuz this studio seems to be unaware of the fact that the only good games they made in the last few years are the games from their well known franchises. and the worst part about this is that they seem to make those games less. theyre sitting on a goldmine of franchises and do nothing with them. for example. they own the "legacy of kain" franchise but they have claimed they wont do anything with it and will probably let it die
Squenix will just put blame on developer and axe few heads, sad but true. They always pull out one of two cards. "players don't want any more this type of games" or "Devs sucked"
Yeah I think it's very optimistic to expect that Squenix will learn anything good from this. They're never going to blame the concept because they want to keep good relations with Disney, so they'll blame the developers instead for the constraints put upon them.
Sad but true The entire reason squre and enix merged was because square made a bad movie that lost a bunch of money so in a truly genious move they started to make another movie after the merge...
@@alastor8091 the idea was the comparison between jewerly (the story of the deus ex HR and MD, which i liked) and toilet ( whatever the fuck this marvel shit was) but when you need to explain a joke you may aswell don't tell it at all
@@zaikolebolsh5724 The story in HR and MD was not even CLOSE to being that good. It was alright, but the main quest wasn't "fine jewelry". The world building, some of the side quests, the characters, sure, but the main story was b tier at best. Nobody's making videos discussing the themes, relevancy, intricacy, and quality of either of those games like they are about Metal Gear.
"Creative" and "Original" are two different words. Her powers a NOT original, but how she uses them can be creative and unique to her. The game did okay (better than the comics at least), but honestly it didn't really get me invested in her or her powers.
Y'all remember when Spiderman was supposed to be an exclusive character for ps4 and he didn't come out day one? Also my friend and were playing this and he ended up getting stuck in the mission where you unlock black widow and the part where you played Kamala, he played as a giant black widow with Kamala's dialogue. This was since the game released. He still hasn't been able to make it past the mission even after all the updates. Needless to say the game was deleted by everyone in the squad and forgotten about.
So the newest Deus Ex was cancelled for this trainwreck. Sounds like they took a page straight out of EA management's guide on how to be bad at your job, when they cancelled Dungeon Keeper 3 and shut down Bullfrog to make a new Happy Potter game. That move also was a financial and brand image disaster. There are so many people out there who work in decision making positions in the gaming industry that are completely disconnected from what their company actually does. An MBA from Harvard is nice, but it's not a substitute for having exactly zero knowledge of your product or audience.
Mankind Divided is a strange game that features only several blocks of a city to explore, but is so freakishly dense that I still found myself discovering new areas and side things in 2020 after all these years lol
@@MrNickPresley That's not the only insulting thing about this, it's the fact that most of those who want Battle Royale already got their own preferences filled in the last half decade, so anything else they could add would probably be left unnoticed
Literally no one : Bloodline devs : You what this game needs? A Battle Royal mode, surely everyone who liked the first single player RPG would love that!
The sad thing is that the actual single player RPG is shaping up to be a mess. Really they should focus all resources in to making that game at least decent.
I've been pretty concerned about that for a while. It went from "oh I'm gonna need to grab that" to "I'll wait for the reviews and then maybe grab it a year or 2 later when the price drops" to "I'm not buying it". I mean the facial animations for the female characters is insultingly bad. I don't know what the devs are focusing on but I don't understand their logic at all
Fun fact of the day: Travis Willingham, who voices Thor in this game and literally everything else, as a tattoo in Nordic runes that says “worthy” and I think that’s pretty cool
@@ZorgNothing i think it's gonna be good but probably won't live up to the insane hype people thinking this game is gonna be the greatest game ever are gonna feel let down
Honestly, I lost interest in it once I saw the trailer and plot synopsis. I was hoping it was going to have something to actually say about the current systems in place and dive into what makes a dystopian setting...you know, _dystopian,_ and tell a story that actually aligns with the punk ideology but it doesn't really look like it. Which is a shame, too, because I was genuinely pretty excited for it.
I'll be honest with you when I heard deus ex was canceled for this b******* I was so angry so you taking this thing out like Drago did with Apollo feels so righteously good
I just realized and that's analogy Drago is Deus ex and Apollo is Marvel's avengers marvel avengers is a cocky little son of a b**** that failed and Drago is the monster everyone wishes they could be
Let's be honest, if they can't even bother do write good scripts or make original movies, why would they be bother trying to make a good game? After all the strategy is just endless milking the intellectual properties they have and the fanboys will buy it anyways, just like happens with the movies.
@@tylerhouston69 Oh please, from iron dude and flashy hammer to retards combined: endgame it's all been the same predictable cow dung they've been serving you together with superficial characters, unappealing repetative dialogue, silly Mcguffins and some flashy cgi to top it off. @Type C Thank you, that sounds better than I thought. The DLC situation is regrettable, but if the core game is better than the average battle royale, I'll be happy.
@@francosorbelo7147 The board room - _- Funny thing is, since Vampire the Masquerade is originally a TRPG, like Dungeons and Dragons, a multiplayer mode isn't that farfetched. A good co-op would be great. But a full-on battle royale? Could turn out humiliating for the IP if they make it a janky Fortnite with vampires.
@@paulinapaola I can see a battle royale working if it would be a completely different kind of battle royale other than an FPS. I can see something more slower paced. Of course, it probably will not end that way, but I wish there were deeper battle royale games than just shoot and survive. Just the idea of competing in a long term is cool.
People didn't abandon comics because they got political. They abandoned them cause they were preachy, self-righteous, joyless & cynically moralizing while also not telling interesting stories
Precisely. Just because your doing something doesnt automatically make it good or bad, except modern comics expects blind praise right off the bat and think they can spit on customers time and time again and expect us to bail them out when they blame us for their losses and never take responsibility themselves.
One of my friends bought on release and "enjoyed" Marvel's Avengers. (So good he was done after like 2 days clearly). It still looks terrible to me. Nice to see the video and the like-dislike ratio confirm I'm not crazy, it really was just sunken cost fallacy.
I've been raving about this ever since the third Jensen game was cancelled, on every video even slightly related to the Deus Ex franchise or to rumors regarding this shitshow of a game. I can't say I knew this was going to be a shitshow, but I was sure as hell that whatever could be conjured from the consumerist comic book scene wouldn't hold a bloody candle to an immersive sim, not to mention a Deus Ex game.
I'm 2 minutes in and i gotta stop you right there. I don't know anybody that was expecting this game to be good. It was obvious this game was gonna be a shitty cash grab that was just trying to ride the hype wave after endgame. The fact that this game failed is no surprise to anybody with eyes.
Fun fact: they cited the hitting of their western studios as due to ‘over spending’ by the western branch during a time the eastern branch of square was in record development hell and spending a crossed the board
That's what seems to happen western side spends too much and has nothing to show for years of work. While the eastern side is normally too damn fearful to lose money to try something new or untested. This is ironic with both because I've seen their games they can do something different and make money.
@@valletas I feel it's the same with every game development company now. Somewhere around 2010 game development took a huge turn and started prioritizing profits over anything. Games used to be unique, with new IP's popping up left right and center all with their own creative ideas and different approaches to what makes a good video game. Nowadays we just served the same rehashed shit, over and over and over again. Every game just takes ideas from other games now and rips them off in such blatant ways. Barely any creativity and/or originality with video games these days which is a huge shame.
@@KamikazeChinaman, Your probably right, and I heard that KH3 sucked and had NO FF characters. It was more of a Pixar and Disney game. The characters were useless apart from Sora. People have actually defended it, agreeing with the lazy cheap excuses and no FF characters. They agree with the statement that it's good enough to stand on it's own. But they underdeveloped their own characters, worst gameplay, less worlds, and people are giving them excuses. They didn't have enough time, despite the 3rd game taking way too long to come out but still it was somehow rushed and worst than all of the previous games. Despite that people defend it saying it doesn't have to be better than KH1 and Kh2 or you can't expect it to be better than the previous games. KH3 took like 3 years to come out. The previous games still hold up. KH3 didn't add any Marvel or Star Wars characters either. IDK, why people are intent on giving them excuses, they did a half-cocked job, IDC, excuses cannot be excused.
My "risky-crazy" idea for an actual MARVEL "SUPERHEROES" RPG: - A narrative driven "party based" TBS tactical RPG. - Feature hundred of marvel superheroes & their unique story campaigns. - Semi low budget but a more unique & beautifully artistic 2.5D detailed comic book art design (i. e. like HADES). - Feature multi region worlds around earth & maybe galaxy. - Feature full voice over on every dialogues & multi languages. - Combat system is tactical TBS RPG with party of 6 characters & 4 in reserved roles. aside from skills, positioning also very important. For examples: Suikoden series, Chrono Cross, Divinity OS series, Shadowrun series, Trails series, SMT series, Persona series, Front Mission series, Wasteland series, etc. - Camera is top down perspective while traveling around worlds. - Feature helicarrier for traveling on certain open areas. - Feature a main base & secret bases around the worlds. - Feature a camp system via helicarrier. - Feature multiple choices & endings for the narratives/stories. - Feature unite attacks from every 3 linked characters.
@@Graknorke totally different in terms of tactical maneuvers, the scope of the worlds that much akin to CRPG games, & some other things like unique portraits & power attack scenes. In the most basic forms of depictions: - Art design: HADES + MARVEL comics - RPG & Combat: DOS2/Shadowrun/Wasteland/Torment/Front Mission (tacticality) + Trails/Fire Emblems/Persona (attack scenes) + Trails/Persona (RPG leveling) - Dialogues & Scenes: HADES + Persona - Narrative/RPG stories: CRPG games - The worlds: multiple big world maps within overworld galaxy scale map - Mini games: Helicarrier raid/defense?? (idk tbh LOL)
Most of these hacks these days wouldn't even know what to do with most of these characters. Hell even in X-Men Legends characters started to overlap a bit too much.
Just found your channel with this video. You covered a lot of the same points I have made with my friends about my sadness and fury about what they did to deus ex. Good video, great points... I laughed, I held back a tear. May this only show the overlords who hold controll over what we love, that you can't just shove money and a intellectual property onto something and have it print money. Here is hoping for a better future for deus ex. We fans haven't forgotten it.
Thinking only in terms of a marvel game, this is really sad. I remember playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance and having a blast, this could have been something like that. Also, it's sad that all the work that went into the game was for nothing at the end, since the game is not good. In terms of a canceled deus ex, this is really the worst.
Your channel is the whole reason I got back into immersive sims, you reminded me how good Bioshock was so I replayed it, I got Prey 2017 and loved it, I bought System Shock 2 and loved it, YOU convinced me to buy Deus Ex, as well as human revolution and mankind divided... I love these games so much, and to know that the next big immersive sim was canceled for this... I feel your pain, maybe not to the same degree but I feel it. It’s the same feeling I felt when I found out Microsoft formed 343 to continue halo even though the story was already wrapped up, it’s the same feeling I got when Valve finally came back and accounted a damned card came as their returning title and I realized, for the first time, how shitty, dumb and greedy this industry is.
I recorded a full playthrough. Editing the video was so boring and painful I just trashed the whole video. Am I wrong or is this an Avengers game with the plot of an X-men comic?
My fiance is a die hard Avengers fan. She was looking forward to this game, and even had it pre-ordered. Once we played the beta, even she passed on this trash.
It's still baffling to me how Square Enix does get away with so much. To me, they are on the same level like EA and Activision. And their decline isn't exactly something new either.
You've made it Squinix, finally you broke him, finally you've won. You've torn someone apart, someone that was always happy, that always smiled. Someone that didn't deserve to have his favorite game cancelled. Someone that was happy making youtube videos and reviews of games. Someone that loved with all his hearth Deus Ex and was waiting for the last game. Someone that knew how to remain strong. You've hurt him and take away his happiness My poor Charlatan Wonder, what have they done? I hope you can go through this.
This game legit just looked like Destiny without any guns, which, considering Destiny is and always has been a shooter, was probably the crux of the issue. Searching for higher tier loot means nothing if that loot doesnt have anything unique to it other than "increases x stat higher than previous gear". The power level grind of Destiny (Especially 2) has been the thing people have railed against Bungie for doing the most poorly for years now, that shouldnt be the basis of your video game. At its worst, Destiny at least has unique weapons/weapon archetypes and fun perks that fit into even more fun builds, even in high end play. At its best, Marvel's Avengers is a diablo clone wearing somebody else's dirty socks.
Exactly what I thought watching this. In destiny you don’t grind for loot because it has a higher number, you grind for it because it’s unique, fun to use, or the meta that season. Nobody grinded for Falling Guillotine because it had a higher number; they grinded for it because it was nuts and could melt half the raid bosses in the game
@@fort809 Guillotine is your friend boys. Aztecross quote aside, you’re right. I didn’t enjoy the recent Warmind bunker season as it didn’t explain the mechanics particularly well IMO, but I wanted the Seventh Seraph weapons. During the loading screen they show brief animations of the characters and Black Widow blinked out of sync. Both eyes closed at the same time but opened and different speeds so she looked drunk. I saw that screen a LOT when I played and they never fixed it.
@@troyg2102 was that based off of one of the two movies that had really bad CGI and at some point had mutant dog balls , I'm not even kidding some artists spent the time to CGI render testicles onto a giant mutant dog
I like the visual of Kamala's powers in the comics. The off proportions of her limbs allows the artists more leway and makes her fights at least a little fun to look at visually. Seeing the attacks brought to the third dimension in this game just looks weird though.
I think the break was perfectly timed. After Endgame and Far From Home, having a break from the movies was needed. I am excited to see Black Widow, and Multiverse of Madness and such. Wandavision too. As for the game, they should have just made Marvel Heroes 2. Seriously. I am still upset that game is dead, and then they point at the new one and say start collecting again. Rent the stuff. My only hope for a silver lining is that the absolute failure of this game will change the new Batman game, and Suicide Squad game to be great and not garbage. We will see though, if that game bombs for the same reason avengers did, they deserve to suffer for not learning from their competitors mistakes.
I don''t think that Eidos Montréal will be given a chance by Square Enix to develop more Deus Ex games after the commercial failure of Marvel's Avengers. "What a shame." as J.C. Denton would have said it.
The more and more I hear of this game, the more I believe this game was originally going to be a custom character mmo style game with playing as the Avengers characters for just ionic missions.
The issue with bad decisions is bad execs who constantly think they know better. An exec went to school for finance will tell a game designer or film director writer etc who went to school for their craft whats good and what's bad when they probably don't even use the product they are selling.
Most big budget game execs don't have a background in creative works but instead are brought in from just general industry. I know that executive work isn't really much to do with the actual ground level work, but you'd think they should have some familiarity.
I used to live nearby where Obsidian is based and my work was right next to theirs. I dont want anyone who goes to California Pizza Kitchen every day for lunch anywhere near a Deus Ex game.
@@CharlatanWonder I guess, I just wish that hopefully anyone but square(or Activision, Konami, and maybe EA) gets their hands on deus ex to complete the story.

I recall my first thought on seeing that Crystal Dynamics - the studio behind the Legacy of Kain series - was making this piece of garabge was 'well shit, they've fallen a ways.'
"You can be a perky optimist while being aware of how the real world works, but not here." Writers lately just have not been able to separate optimism from naivety.
What Disney is to movies, SQUARE ENIX is to video games. Take cool and interesting topics and dumb them down for the masses, to the point that all the soul, heart and point of the original thing are all gone and all that is left is a lifeless husk
To be honest, I am happy Deus Ex´s legacy wont be harmed anymore, Mankind Divided may have been a good game, but it wasn´t a good Deus Ex, that is the only red flag I need to believe the chances of ever getting a true entry of Deus Ex are pretty much null.
Theres another main point I wish superhero games did: first person view. Im not saying that third person is inherently bad but imagine how cool it would feel to fly around shooting things as Iron Man instead of always feeling out of body.
Not only this game came out after the Super Hero craze was over, it also came out after other games, that were sell as "game as a service" aka "launch it as soon as it playable, fix it, only if it is worth it" the biggest sample being Anthem, and is not even an original twist, it just took things already done and badly copy paste it
I feel you on that but for a different franchise, the Legacy of Kain series. After finding out that Nosgoth was the multiplayer mode of the reboot and both got canned along with the last game of the main series. I am pissed off to what had happened to both Deus Ex's and Legacy of Kain. CEOs don't know Jack from shit and are showing how bad they really are at it. Hell what's happening to EA, Ubisoft, and square enix is retribution in of itself.
Yeah man I agree with the intro completely, I never even played the game and I didn’t understand why everyone was being so easy on it, if it wasn’t attached to the avengers brand this game would have been absolutely shit on by everyone but instead it got a “it’s fun for a bit, not very deep but it’s alright” from just about every reviewer, even reviewers like skill up and even fucking jimquisition, I felt like I was taking crazy pills.
Cyberpunk 2077 has 10x the playerbase of the Avengers on PC Let that sink in. More people would rather try the mess that is Cyberpunk, over the cash grab that is The Avengers...
My only hope is that Cyberpunk is such a huge smash that it jolts SE into greenlight Deus Ex 3. Or, at the very least, that this game’s failure doesn’t lead to Eidos Montreal being shutdown.
I'm not trying to be mean, but there's a few times that you said "I'd be missed if I ..." and I think you mean to say "I'd be remiss if I...". Unless I'm just hearing you wrong.
It is depressing Eidos Montreal has such a pedigree, and Crystal Dynamics gave us the Legacy of Kain series, along with Tomb Raider Legends and Anniversary. And both are under the umbrella of Square-Enix, who has the resources. This game SHOULD have been good, only if it had half of the love that Insomniac poured in the Spider-Man game.
I just want more Hulk related games/content... I just wanna be an angry green man who can yeet mountains hard enough to crack the moon like an egg... Is that TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR!?
