Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Is A Soulless Game 

Forgot to mention the lack of suit powers and the reduced amount of gadgets compared to the first game. There’s a great game somewhere in there but it’s muddied by the laziness of the developers. Still fun but not as good as it could’ve been 😕

I swear I got frustrated with Peter being nerfed just to make Miles better. Plus I hated that Scream boss fight I couldn’t stand it and that’s making me pretty hesitant on playing the game again when NG+ inevitably drops.

while i was playing the main story i was having a great time until i started going for the platinum. i agree that the majority of side missions were repetitive and the fact that features like changing the time of day and new game plus is gone sucks ass too. the longer it's been after i played it the more i'm noticing these flaws and it's pretty disappointing

I was so disappointed in the story of this game...my community tab over the last month is any indication of that of that and I didn't even expamd on HALF the points you made😭...BUT...at this point I'm just burnt on talking about it how bad it was any further So I'll say I agree with most of your points. I didn't even think about that Norman thing...yh your right it is dumb. And Norman seemed so one note in this game and had nothing else to add to the story I have NO faith at all in the narrative of the 3rd game. The set ups dont even remotely edcite me especially the Silk one...they couldn't even balance Miles and Peter's stories properly...now we got a THIRD spider person with an Origin more complicated than both Peter and Miles...and they're making her Miles' age🙄😐

22hrs in I already had the Platinum….I must say during gameplay it was really fun bit as soon as all side and main quests are done, there is literally nothing more to do but

I do agree with most what you said and I thought the writing will better than the first game and easily one of the best spider-man stories ever told. I’m extremely disappointed as a diehard spidey fan.

After 2 of these games I find it really off-putting how much the logic of the world bends over backwards to make MJ a girlboss. The fact that Norman saw Spider-Man and MJ holding hands at the end and didn't realize the obvious is a symptom of that. Insomniac insists on treating MJ as an equal superhero and refuses to think about it more deeply. Actively engaging in such mental gymnastics is why they failed to consider something that simple.

Although I wouldn't agree that the game is soulless (other than Cleatus Cassidy lmao gottem), I agree with a lot of your points. Especially the difficulty and the side missions. Based on the title and thumbnail, I clicked on this video thinking it was just going to be an angry rant, but I was pleasantly surprised how fair you were being and how well you put your points across. A lot of great points. I would also like to add how extremely disappointing Venom was to me. I was not one of those toxic fans who immediately rejected the idea of no Eddie Brock as Venom, but I do think that they were right in the end. Now that I've played the game I can say that making Harry the host for Venom was just an attempt to water down the character. They ignored everything that made Venom's characterization so terrifying and unique with his personal hatred towards Spider-Man and replaced it with some generic world domination crap or "heal the world" as they put it.

After about a month since I bought Spider-Man 2, I can say with certainty that story kinda sucks balls. There were a lot of super awesome stuff but the venom/symbiote story felt pretty rushed and my boy Peter got nerfed so hard 😭 boss fights and gameplay were still fun. 8/10 game honestly

The game was definetley mid, the black suit arc was cut short and completely ruined after the peter boss fight, and the seemingly "completely in line with symbiotes destroying everything" kind of make this venom feel like a dumbed down carnage and not this awesome conflicted character that he is in the comics. I love the black suit and venom and it hasn't been done justice on screen almost ever.

Man I can't believe how bad they fumbled this games story. They should have found a way to get miles out of the way and focus solely on Peter and what the symbiote is doing to him. Also Harry was a bad host for venom.

Forgot to mention the lack of boss fights and the fact that the one and only "human woman" boss fight that we have is quite literally the toughest one to go through even when you're in the symbiote suit. It's actually very ridiculous how hard wraith was in the game. I got beat by her like seven times.

I mostly agree with you, and I'm so frustrated. I really wanted them to make a game as good as the first one. I can be cool with most of your point, but their is 2 points I will never forgive them, the way they handled Peter to show him as weaker than Miles pissed me off. The story centered on Harry as Venom and his relationship with Peter, why they thought it was a good idea to nerf Peter in that context in beyond writing logic. I want to highlight a point, the problem is not Miles himself, it's how they treated the passing of torch, unnatural at best, forced and cringe at worst. The fact that it's not even Peter who saved the day at the end is so... And the worst part, the tease Osborn and Doc Ock to be the next villains and at the same time officially announce that Miles is now the main Spider-Man... Miles arc is pretty good, they managed to give him a good parallel story to Peter/Harry with Martin Li. My complain about him is of course that he is too strong and capable compared to Peter who was nerfed in every way possible so... not very balanced. I guess the "be greater. together" goes in fact only one why, and franckly I'm sure the next games will not improve on that. With a possible Spider-Woman with Cindy, Peter don't have a chance to shine again, if Insomniac don't change direction and writing team. I like what they did with Kraven and Harry, why only complaint is that we don't see them very often and they deserved more space. Harry is a great choice for Venom, even if like you said the story become predictable, I still like the idea and what they showed, mostly. Norman is not as clever as he is supposed to be. The fact that he ask Otto for help is unbelievably stupid. The problem with MJ is her new mode. It don't make sense that she is so OP but it's... acceptable, just from a gameplay perspective. Not from a story one, but f... it. I agree with you about the side quest they are boring a most the time I forced myself to do them, except for the old man and Howard, two short but touching moments. A general problem is that the writing of the dialogues of the game lack impact. The Miles Morales game already wasn't as good as the first one, but 2 is a big downgrade. We love Spider-Man for the Shakespearian stories and tragedies, but Spider-Man is also very funny and punchy, so give him charm.

I said it from the moment miles was revealed to be a character in 2018, miles was going to put peter on the bench and he would be the main spiderman. And I wouldn't have that much of a problem if miles was interesting and unique but the writers are super eager to have him take the spotlight.

I hope in the next game they somehow give Peter his throne back. (I doubt it because of how woke insomniac games is). I felt like Peter was very nerfed in this game and took a back seat to miles, and it is a bad look that even with the symbiote, prefer couldn’t beat venom but miles could with no symbiote at all, it should have been miles getting beat up then Peter finishing the job, it makes more sense, also the writer self inserted herself as MJ which is very annoying because even she seems more powerful then spiderman

Bro, I played my FIRST playthrough on SPECTACULAR difficulty. And I did not lose ONCE in any boss fight. To be fair I grinded the side missions(Thus Upgrade Tree) befroe I finished the story but still

My thoughts exactly, the story felt shallow, the gameplay didn't mix too well, and the villains where poorly written. It has some nice features, I like the symbiote suit, but the game was mediocre at best and boring at worst. Insomniac has been missing quite a bit lately lol

Idk man... Honestly I think the game is really bad. The story is so messy and short, it feels rushed. And there was so much propaganda, not only in the side missions, but in the main story too. It's a pretty bad deal for 70$ and really dissapointing continue to the story from the first game. I thought the game was going to focus on Peter and his problems, but instead we got too much of Miles. And honestly, Miles is a pretty bad character. I like him a lot in his movies, but in this game hes just really bad written. Peter on the other hand has a really weird relationship with Harry. There's no chemistry. I just don't feel the pressure. In the first game I was genuinely worried and I carred about everything that was happenig, it really felt like the end of the world. Here even with Venom taking over (which is the stupidest thing ever) you just don't feel anything. Only thing you feel is rage from all the MJ missions and you're wondering how tf a woman with a stun gun is stronger than Peter in some cases. I haven't even mentioned the fact, that Peter was so nerfed. I hate that Insomniac wants to show how strong is Miles, but when trying to do that the nerf Peter?! We know, what Miles is capable of, we know how strong he is. It's 2024, can we leave racism behind and not act like everyone thinks that black people aren't humans...

I disagree with the the difficulty of the game being easier. I remembered mastering the combat and all the timings of the first game within hours of the game and had no trouble with the highest difficulty in NG+ but with spiderman 2, idk if its the enemy density or the new added parry system but it definitely felt harder to master than the first game, especially bosses, maybe it's the fact that they have health bars now that im much more conscious of how much further i have to beat to beat them, but that could just be me

They had a large map, all they had to improve was the gameplay but they wasted resources focusing on things that did not enhance the experience and just made the open world needlessly large. This game is 25hrs long at best and offer no replay value but it cost $354 million which is 3 times the first game. It's dissapointing.

Peter losing his battles is to show that being Spider-Man for 10+ years is taking a huge toll on him, and he can’t do it much longer. Also during the miles and Peter fight, Peter was fighting the symbiote as well. Also there was a giant bell. Spider-Man always explains to people who question him and mj together as they are working together since she’s a news reporter. The green goblin arc is great because even with all his money, harry is the only thing that matters to him and is all he has left, and the superhero known for not killing people, puts harry in a coma. With all his grief it makes sense. The more boring side missions have a lot of story element which are pretty good. I don’t know you are coming from with the difficult meter, this game was definitely harder then ps4’s especially the side missions

I think it's really better to wait for the PC version The mods will make the experience more fun and fix certain problems, and I won't need to see that Tom Holland 2.0 face

Couldn't disagree more! The Insomniac Spider-Man trilogy (Duology and spin-off?) and the Batman Arkham Trilogy (With Origins) are some of the most phenomenal superhero trilogies I have ever played! Probably video games in general trilogies of all time!

Wrong! Insomniac never dissapoints, the team put their heart and soul and they outdid themselves. Its also better then the first 2 games. Its a huge improvement from its predecessors too. The boss fights are amazing and better then the first 2 games, its more challenging. The story is amazing too. Kraven is amazing and it's hands down the best iteration of Kraven. He was menacing and threatening then ever. Same thing can be said for Venom. He is stronger and bigger then the previous iterations. Plus I love Tony Todd's voice. Kraven and Venom from Insomniac are amazing and better then Sony spin off movie versions. Insomniac never disappoints. Insomniac's Spider Man is hands down the best iteration of Spider Man across all media and its my favorite too.
