"Beautiful Corner" is a developer term for an area that has had polish for demos and promo material, and to serve as a reference for other art, often complementing more gameplay focused greybox demos.
@@rinzu1The year is 2042. Sleeper agents of the Gamer Collective have infiltrated all three AAAAA studios in order to leak the debug tools. Meanwhile the speedrunner coldwar has turned hot as TASbot has declared war on all human speedrunners. Welcome to the world of Gamerpunk 2042.
I think that online functionality made them a necessary cut, since you can mess up game progression and instantly get a trophy for beating the game, as shown in the video. There are other incentives like paid DLC, but the biggest is preventing cheating in online games. This is why Action Replay and GameShark are no longer a thing. But yes, I loved using the GameShark to unlock debug menus, especially in Squaresoft games. You could spend hours just messing around in those debug rooms!
I remember that video with the interview of one of the devs from Spider-Man where he said that there are somewhere under the city those boxes. Well now we can see them haha
Same especially so many games that had a console menu (using ~ usually) that started with Quake if I recall, some games today still have this like CS2 but not many.
I love how time of day was a simple debug toggle that took till NG+ a month or two later past release, why it couldn't be in the original game... idk... but then why in the original game are there symbiote crimes when we destroyed them all, so who am I?
This isn't debug mode, but a debug Menu. Debug mode means there is an external injection process that lets you view the executed code at runtime in a debugger which in this case, is not possible with a regular PS5.
Although what you say is true, this is not a debug build; you can see that on the build info @11:41. Debugging tools and performance counters do not require debug builds. As for the performance hit, it would probably be noticeably higher than that in a debug build.
@@andre_ss6Seems you know nothing about debug builds, this build is completely stripped, it does not have any of the debug functions in place. The video even mentions this. Just cause you can see Build Info it doesn't mean it's a Debug Build, this is a release branch build which also contains a build info.

@@captinsparklezremixbecause they think that this company called sweet baby is making games woke. They aren’t even a DEI firm. They are like script doctors that work on films and tv but they do games. They aren’t forcing anybody to make games “woke.” These idiots just need something to be angry about all the time.
Great video Oliver! Surprising to see how low the minimum bounds of DRS can be, makes me wonder if they switched to FSR2 or upgraded IGTI if the image quality would be even better, because I imagine that the reconstruction is probably being pushed to it's limits in the 40hz mode if it's trying to reconstruct up to 4k from 1152p at times.
I don't think I've seen a single console game using FSR2 that looked better for it. All games that use it reconstruct from close-to-1080p resolutions and the result is always crap, shimmery flickery video. The Insomniac method on the other hand is very stable even at sub-1080p resolutions.
@@KillahMateI thought that Dead Space looked alright with its use of FSR2 but it was pretty soft. I will agree that many games that use it have had extremely poor results but I believe that's just due to the native resolution being way too low, I mean some games have a native resolution below 720p at times which is just absurd.
@@KillahMate I'm inclined to disagree abit, from what I've tested on Spiderman on PC and seen from Spiderman 2, you can tell that IGTI was only designed to double resolutions and gets pushed when it's being used to triple or almost quadruple pixel counts. I don't think it's bad by any means, would take a technique that can look like a basic upscale over chunky artefacting you get from bad reconstruction techniques/implementations. I think the FSR2 implementation in Spiderman Remastered is pretty good already and a further improved version of that could work well in Spiderman 2. That or further work on IGTI to make it closer to the results you get from techniques like FSR2/TSR, as those techniques are more designed to reconstruct from a Third or Quarter of the pixel count.
@@TruTrae Going below 720p occasionally may be fine for a Series S reconstructing up to only 1080p, but the examples I've seen really don't justify such pixel count drops. I briefly tried the demo of Imortals Aviuem and it looked bad at 1440p with Quality level FSR2, letalone the obscenely low resolutions the consoles use, you'd think they would have implemented FSR2 better if they were going to rely on it so much. Doesn't help visuals really don't justify it's performance impact or at least isn't leaning on the demanding techniques it's using under the hood.
Don't say FSR2 and low resolutions... Spideran is doing a phenomenal job of keeping the image clear - Quality mode is better but not night and day better as FSR2 would make it.
This video made me wish more games had a debug mode like Sonic's time on the Mega Drive, it's so interesting to see how some things in games are created and leftovers from developers.
Fascinating stuff! I'd love to see debug features left in more games. :) (As a side note, I find it hilarious how simple the button combos are to get into the debug menus. No wonder they were discovered so quickly!)
incredibly cool stuff to see. a peek behind the curtains isn't something we often get with AAA games of this scale. Very obvious why we aren't getting these kinds of things considering the risk of leaking information that we shouldn't be privy to, but man how cool would it be to get some peeks like this for more games?
l can accept the near consistent 1080p output in this game _onIy_ because it's actuaIIy using next-gen features, using them at high resoIution without major breakup whiIe at 60fps, and the image isn't a grainy mess
this debug menu as well as having 2 whole trailers for the cancelled multiplayer game, plus another financial powerpoint about spiderman 3, plus the already massiv hack that happenned a few months ago. McDonalds wi-fi has more security than insomniac
This was super cool to watch! I have to admit tho, that it felt a bit frustrating the use of words like “properly implemented” or “leaves something to be desired” when talking about content that is never supposed to be accessible by the en user😅
I wonder if the test red skybox symbiote city was made if they maybe were going into knull more and the actual orgin of the symbiote, with meteorite level as well
Reminds me Insomniac had in-game behind the scenes levels in Ratchet & Clank that showed off the tech features plus cut features (like "realtime" water on ps2).
"if we see a more venom centric entry in the future" bro are you real jorunos?? were you asleep when they leaked insomniac future lineup that included a venom game????
I love how people say they can spot 1080p vs 4k and we can't even tell a resolution change happening dynamically. Dynamic Resolution Scaling is unbelievable and why consoles can deliver the games they have. It's certainly more important than Ray Tracing or even Supersampling.
I'm really starting to wonder what's going on at Sony. I mean, the Stellar Blade demo/trial dropped and was almost immediately removed. On top of that if you were fortunate enough to download it during the brief window (as long as you're connected to the internet) you still can't play it. Your right to play it will be revoked. So, I'm wondering if some rightfully disgruntled devs are doing things like giving access to dev tools and putting out early demos in an effort to stick it to the man.🤔
Thank you for taking part in the Early Access of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Debug Menu Feature. After much careful consideration, we deeply regret that the release is cancelled as it would not meet the expectations of our beloved community of gamers and fans. We feel that you deserve more and we are already hard at work in an upcoming AAA title which we will announce when it is ready. Thank You once again for your encouragement and support!
Me too. Unfortunately, my PS5 was online when PS got the memo and silently locked me into updating the game before playing it in the future. Even though I didn't patch the game, trying to play it again wasn't allowed. I'm pretty sure Insomniac PlayStation and probably more importantly, Marvel themselves (given Spider-Man is Marvel's IP) really wanted the debug menu access taken out of the game. At least PS didn't ban users from PSN for downloading a game that was accidentally released. Another publisher closed unrelated accounts, cutting off access to much more important things because a debug version of a paid game was released in the past.
@@VariantAEC yeah that sucks. I knew about but thought it was only gameplay related things like cheat codes essentially. Had no idea there were hidden unfinished levels or performance overlays showing resolution. Missed the Stellar Blade demo as well, which is ok because I’m sure that will drop officially soon but that Spider-Man dev menu was a rare occurrence for sure.
@@VariantAEC Btw, which publisher did that? But I’m sure you’re right about Disney/Marvel, they’re really protective over their legacy IP like Spider-Man.

@@jedimindtrickonyou3692 Microsoft deleted user accounts when Playground Games unintentionally launched FH3's debug version for purchase on PCs through their storefront. I do not know if MS restored any user accounts after that debacle. I can't find anything about it today. The scant news about that issue today suggests it only corrupted some game save data. I remember reading articles about MS retaliating against users for buying the game, though.
I’m gonna be honest from watching this entire review of the debug system when I’m playing the game I don’t even notice any graphical resolution going down the game graphics outstanding on both performance and Fidelity mode i’m surprised to see what I saw in this video. I’m always gonna be playing Fidelity no matter what output supports VRR pushing the Fidelity to 40 FPS I really wonder what the PS5 Pro going to do for games that go through this type of situation
936p is the usual metric on the perfomance mode 120fps While for 60fps, its the lowest metric which happens very rarely AND passes by quickly. It isnt staying at 936p all the time. The usual metric is a bit above 1080p
Even if I lose my save data. Will my trophy progress reset even though I have the Platinum Trophy. I've been keeping my game from updating to the latest patch which removes the dev menu. I simply just want to screw around with Venom in free roam. So my main question is. If I started a new game or save file where I'm just Venom. And then updated to the latest patch. Would I lose access to my Venom?
I just saw the gameplay of the developer footage with the team at insomniac testing out destructible environments on a earlier build at the game game where the UI still kind of looked like the UI from Spider-Man 2018 and I wish that insomniac wasn’t rushed out of the gate and forced to release Spider-Man two early by Sony, don’t get me wrong. I still think Spider-Man two is a great game but with all of the stuff they had planned and had to cut out of the game it’s a shame that they didn’t have the choice to implement any of the features they wanted to.
I mean... what's your definition of rushed? Insomniac Games had 3 years to make it, a bloated 300 million dollar budget, and a massive amount of pre-existing assets / code to streamline the process. Sounds more than fair to me.
@@Ingel_Riday6690 well what more than likely happened was they were given the budget for a larger scaled game, but Sony wanted to get Spider-Man two out before the holiday season was over to boost sales and so a lot of concepts probably had to be cut to save on time so they could meet that holiday 2023 release, and all honesty the development situation with Spider-Man 2 reminds me a lot of what happened with halo 2 back in the day.
@@Dysmorphyx_ The thing is... I'm not sure that the leaks support that narrative. To me, the leaks indicated that Sony was increasingly mortified by the ever-bloating budget and finally cracked the whip about a year to a year and a half before release. Kind of a "no, you're not going 400 million on this. You shouldn't have gone 300 million. Trim back the scope creep and rein things in!" But, who knows? The phrase that always comes to my mind is: "know the assignment." Insomniac Games willingly took the job of churning out a Marvel game every 2 to 3 years for the next DECADE. Fine. A doable task. Create a strong foundation (Marvel's Spider-Man 2018), a solid core (the combat system and traversal system) and then make incremental changes. Add things to it over time, in measured amounts. Increasing the size of the map by 40% or so, adding entire new traversal mechanics (the wingsuit), re-working the whole gadget system, adding an entire new playable character type (Venom), and so on ALL IN THE SAME GAME was scope creep. It was too much all at once, and the game suffered for it (also, the writing by committee created one of the most pandering, obnoxious stories that I have ever experienced and I ended up loathing the game). But that's me. Eh. Sunk cost now. At this point, I won't be buying Marvel's Spider-Man 3. I can go to church if I want to be preached at, and I'm not sure that Insomniac Games has learned to rein its excess ambitions in yet.
Shame that this masterpiece not running at true 4k that's why all ps games need to be released on pc to get their full potential. I'm not saying consoles are bad but high end PCs are just at another level
I'd love if games just released a kinda "one more" update and it's just a debug menu. Basically it's like "hey we're done with the game, but for a final one lets give you the debug menu options. have fun!". Because by that point all the stuff has been released for the game and it's cool to just see stuff like this. Fuck the idiots that shit on early release footage, they don't know anything. Let me see the grids and how stuff was put together!
I really wonder why devs so rarely leave this stuff in the game, clearly there is a demand from a niche within the gaming community, the tweaking nerds. I'm old enough to remember Quake and Unreal games having a developer console. Let people have a go at it if they want.
Wonder if the DF team wanted to view the leaked Spider-Man 2 PC port's debug menu but couldn't because of it being a leak. Now they can lol. Also, they should keep this in! Like as a toggle in settings, which would disable achievements of course..
These things are really fascinating but I guess the risk of people breaking the game and/ or bricking their consoles is too great for it to be left in the game for people like you
Hi DigitalFoundry, could you investigate Helldivers II crashing and "bricking" PCs? My friend got the game and it killed his PSU after 50+ hours with an intel CPU, SSD, and NVIDIA GPU. On Reddit and Steam forums, there are many threads with players saying the game killed their SSD and/or motherboard. I think this is very important given the rising popularity. I want to play this game, but I'm scared of losing my important files. I would have to back them first, but then I would be spending a lot of money to repair/replace PC parts if Helldivers II would kill my PC
Possibility of breaking your save or something ig? Imo it should be a feature but it locks trophies for that save and puts several warnings before doing so
Getting all of this content to a point where it's stable would take time and I doubt that Insomniac had the time considering that they're always working on a big project.
To be fair, it’s all about a preference me. I usually prefer more fidelity games and I do tend to don’t mind having a frame drop I love how much the companies put into the games but if you do have a display output that support VRR least push the frames to 40 FPS times it feels like I’m playing at 60fps I don’t even notice any type of frame differences. I truly wonder what the PS5 pro is going to offer. Especially with the rumored AI of upscaling technology. Similar to Nvidia DLSS ?
when I web swing, this happens, and it can get frustrating. Any way to stop it? I do have access to the debug mode cos I am playing the game on PC actually (for reasons 😂)
You wouldn’t really need to. The game runs really well on ps5 and absolutely wouldn’t run well if you tried raising resolution or texture quality. It’s not a pc. It’s a console
