Marvel Zombies: A Zombicide Game- Just Played!

@@meeple haha sure thing. I always find it more fun when you add flavor text. I’ve been thinking about home brewing an event deck for the game eventually as an experiment. Add a little more variety. Like, “You rip the door off its hinges with ease. Cowering in the corner is a little old lady. She looks at you through tear stained eyes and begs, “Please.” You lick your lips. Dinner time. Any zombie heroes in this zone may decrease their hunger by one.” Things like that.

@@briancoll8321 Now we're talkin! This is the sort of little flavor I'd love to see, and then some. I guess at heart, I just want more story in most of my games like this. It's probably also because I've been having so much darn fun with MD2 lately (and Oathsworn).

@@meeple Yeah, Massive Darkness 2 is a lot of fun. I still gotta do that campaign too. I have been meaning to get back to it. I still have some models to paint too. I’ll probably finish painting Marvel Zombies by the end of the weekend. When I get around to creating the event deck I’ll drop you a line if you’re interested.

I agree that the RPG elements aren't needed, but for me, those are the kinds of things I really want to see in my minis games. Zombicide just offers a different, more accessible experience than those games I mentioned.

Great points. Yeah, this game has grown on me a bit more since our first play. We did a live stream about a week after this video, and it really hit me -- what this game is trying to do. Good time for sure, but just different than what I'd initially hoped for with MD2 as my backdrop.

Yah there's some gaps to fill as far as expectation goes. There isn't much cinematic or epic comic style narration built into the game other than what you make yourself, which is fine for nerds like us at our table who have been reading their stories since we were kids. But that's also part of the fun of being able to play out some of our favourites characters in this setting and we "write" the stories ourselves. - Love your review and overall style, new sub cheers

We'll see. While is certainly offers a different experience than DMD or MD2, I just think I'll always prefer those types of experiences when it comes to minis games for me.

If you enjoy the feel of narrative and more of a campaign feel, Death May Die or Massive Darkness 2 (in particular) might be your cup of tea. And keep in mind, we did only play Marvel Zombies a couple times so far.

For sure on the target audience. I would just LOVE to see something along the lines of DMD or MD2, but set in the Marvel universe. 😁

You've never backed a CMON campaign? We're going to have to try to get one of these types of games played with you at a convention some day!

@@meeple I actually hadn't played a Zombicide game before but I really love the western theme. I like how the spawn points work when you enter a building. The items are fun! Everything feels tense and challenging. After playing 5 times, I beat the intro mission but lost the first mission 4 times. Haha

I suppose their other offerings are where people can get their narrative fix, and I do love the amount that MD2 and DMD bring in that respect.

@@meeple that is true, I personally haven't played those two games( I want to just haven't gotten around to picking them up), But especially since this is a marvel I.P, I would of loved if they had really set up a good story within the marvel universe rather than saying, Your zombies now , go and eat other heroes for mission 1-10. But like I said I guess someone could just home brew that sort of stuff if that's what you are looking for in this game. I'm already thinking of ways to construct a narrative campaign utilizing what we getting with wave 2 if there already isn't anything of the sort in those expansions. But otherwise the miniatures are fantastic! And the game play is fun ! So I'm excited for more when they do arrive. But I'll definitely have to pick up one of those two games in the future ! I've heard a lot of good things

I'm sure it's a challenge when working with an IP to source a bunch of new artwork, but it certainly would have given them a bit more flavor.

I just learned of the "slap chop" painting method, and might actually give it a go with some of my minis.

You mean the episode of What If?

For me personally, that is an easy question. Death May Die offers more of the kinds of things I'm looking for in a miniatures game. This one leans more into the classic Zombicide approach to dice-chucking. DMD has more of a "story" to it, and the player decisions for leveling up and pushing your luck with the sanity track are just a bit more exciting for me.
