I was born in 92....this was before my time, yet I’m a huge Marvin Gaye fan... this whole album is amazing...RIP Marvin ❤️🐐 they don’t make music like this anymore
What makes an album a classic masterpiece is not the “hit” records released by the studio. It’s the other songs produced on the album with no radio airplay. “I Want You” is a masterpiece.
Agree. I was a teen when this came out but fast forward 2022 while listening to random music on my old school playlist this song came on. Now that I'm grown grown, It hits way different now ❤️
The climax of this song is soooo good. Its the climax of the album in my opinion. Marvins vocal performance is on point... the string section is on fire...the horns are killing... the girl.. the bassline.. the groove..everything. It creates a mood that simply cant be put into words. Something like bliss
Amen. I love the planet Marvin was on. He's so sexy and mind-blowing. Love you, Mr.Gaye. He's still making love to me six feet under. How bout that?????
ABSOLUTELY THE MOST INFLUENTIAL,SOULFUL,MALE ARTIST I'VE EVER HEARD!!! I LOVE YOU,I LOVE YOU DEAR MARVIN AND THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING THAT I LEARNED FROM YOU!!!
THIS BROTHER KNEW EXACTLY WHAT TO SAY AND WHEN TO SAY IT. NOBODY COULD TELL IT OR DO IT LIKE THIS BROTHER. ALL THE HURT, PAIN, ADDICTION, LOVE HIS SOUL STILL OVER POWERED IT ALL
If men of this generation would just listen to marvin there wouldn't be any problems in their relationships, I feel this is true romance or black mance , yes I made that up for romance
I listened to this album DAILY at the age of 8! To learn that The Funk Brothers did the music for Marvin on this album almost made me cry because sadly they NEVER truly were given the recognition they deserved as studio musicians for Motown. One of the BADDEST albums of ALL time!
I don’t think the funk brothers played on this record though. James Jamerson is not listed on the linear notes. They were only the in house band until 1972. By that time Marvin and Stevie Wonder had been writing a lot more complicated, structured pieces than the typical Motown records.
I love this song so much. Me and husband Sam loved it. He would sing this to me. He died May 4, 2020. We were married five years. He was only 39 years old. RIP baby. RIP Marvin.
This has grown to be my favorite M. Gaye song. It's seductive and sensual and the arrangement (with the strings) freezes me in my tracks and takes my mind to a whole nother place!
I am 29 years old . My parents grew up on Marvin Gaye and since I been growing up I have listen to all his music and I love every song 🥰😍😍😍. It’s his voice for me that makes me tingle inside. Pure and smooth 💚✨
Marvin does a masterful job first telling his love story in a low smooth voice tone. He then takes off in an even smoother falsetto voice to details the story. He gets back to a mid range voice to explain how he only loves, and only makes love to this particular women. And all the while the music is complementing all of his vocal changes caught up in this love story. This is an mazing musical accomplishment by Marvin and the other smooth artist. A true Musical Master Piece!
Born in 67. My momma would be in concert everyday. She had a real to real player. Concert everyday. And Marice White of Earth Wind and Fire was friends with my mom and would send us instruments to play as we listened. And we did. Til this day I listen to my moms era of music. Word for word.
Masterpiece. I was born in the late 70s and grew up in the 80s when the direction of soulful music was in question! I am.drawn to the 70s sound because that is what was handed down to me. And after 1988, I sort of chose my own music...and by then, people had started singing again. 😊
I'm ol school. I've had the cassette, the album, the cd and have given multiple cd's and vinyls away as gifts simply because this is Marvin's masterpiece. If I could only have one CD this is it. 'don't have to think twice.
He did not create this album, even as gifted he was. The late Leon Ware wrote and produced this abum. Same guy that wrote sumthin sumthin for Maxwell. Check him out. Beast! Musical massage is awesome. My wife got me on his music. Not taking anything away from Marvin, just giving credit where it's due.
wortha2ndlookart , Yes definitely One of my favorites of all time.I can't see anyone doing this better than MG it wouldn't have had the same groove .Bring back soooooo many memories when this world had love music blasting out everywhere. You had to be in that ERA to truly understand ......
I can't recall how many cassettes, LP's and CD's I've worn out or lost or lent to others of this album. All I can say is that this is my favorite album and I'm still diggin' on it in 2019.
This is my all time favorite album as well. I was living in Inglewood California when it came out, an u couldn't walk down the street EVER, an not hear it playin from SOMEONE'S car, house, or apartment!!! It's STILL "DA ONE"!!!
Yes we do, but it is so sad because it is gone forever. The women of the younger generations are becoming boys and the boys are becoming girls....look around. The young people groove to a total different sound and they don't listen to the parents music like you and me done. I will leave this style and go 40s 50s, 60s 70s 80s 90s 2000s 2010 up until now. I'm all over the place.
Marvin was no joke....." don't make me wait!!! Been so hard since I had you....Aaaahhh smakem Marvin....u might not believe it but since I had you girl!! Even in my 50's make me want to put in work...songs like this is what makes us to be tempted by the snake to leave the peace and serenity of the spiritual realm and download to physicality and experience this land of light and darkness.....of this I have no doubt...when u experience MG's music with the third eye he spoke of it often.....serious brother....I'm telling you!!
This is on my top list of Marvin Gaye songs 😍 ...i always always feel a sense of arousal when he says " I get..delirious, baby" wow! Only MGs voice is capable of this feeling u get when hearing something so stimulating 🙊😄💯
Grew up on Marvin in the 70s, my dad listened to him all the time, now that im grown, was listening to this song at work and lawd had me feeling real xxtra ... r i.p. Marvin, the maestro of sexii tunes ♡
His Signature sound and accent adjacent to his harmonious melodic flavor is so funky Damn he's good no he's great there's a marriage and a baby coming uncle Marvin
Lol my sister stole every cassette I had of this album and I go buy another one until the cd came out, she’s good now .This album has so many levels of sound it’s remarkable, hits you where you need it especially when you’re deep into it,this song and come live with me will forever be that game changer, I was young listening to this and was hooked since, thanks brother, I am a Lover of Music ❤
This is probably my favorite MPG song if I had to choose one, which is an extremely hard choice. This album is also my "stranded on a desert island with only one album" album.
Me too. I must have listened to this track and album 1000's of time. Still makes those hairs on the back of the neck stand up, a little watery in the eyes too.
i really cant remember the name of the hip hop artist who sample this sometime in the 90s but i never knew marvin made this song another hot gem and its a soul grabber
