18:00 had a similar experience, where a grocery store manager had basically cornered me in a room until I expressed enthusiasm for a new management plan that was almost certainly going to make my job harder.
Maybe you can expand a little? All that Mr Read seemed to be saying there is that Marx had a tendency to rhetorically over-embellish the degree to which Capitalism is/was a force for a sort of economic neutering of all existing superstitions, religious beliefs and the hierarchies that drew power from them. He wasn't saying that Marx(ism) is fundamentally mistaken about Capitalism and founded on a fundamental error... just that it perhaps works in a more complicated and symbiotic interaction with our existing socio-cultural beliefs than traditional Marxist interpretations might have presumed. This has been the never-ending challenge for ALL Marxists and Marxisms... since about 1900 (i.e. right at the start of the years of high-modernism)... not just for the "postmoderns" (and more recent post-marxists).
