I was born in Slovenia, it’s ex Yugoslavian country thats been independent since 1991, and fully joined EU in 2003. We were part of Socialist regime before and very fast adopted western capitalism. On paper everything was state owned before but in practice workers were the real owners of every factory, of every business. Salary gap between a CEO of a company and a cleaner in the company were not as crazy as today. One example is (and I’m talking this from my own experiences, from being a kid and teenager growing up in that regime) My father was a electrician for a big curtain factory and my mother was a sales person in a grocery store. At the end of the year, when the business made more money then expected both of my parents received part of that money and every summer we went on a one month vacation in Croatia where accommodation was 100% payed by the company. These summer houses were owned by government/workers so they got to use them. My childhood memories were beautiful with my parents not being overworked as they became after. These vacations were modest, no 5 starts hotels and so, its Croatian places that are now being rented for 200€ per night. Something that now 90% of the Slovenian, Croatian families simply can never afford. With Slovenia becoming independent and my parents being very motivated to create something of their own. They started their own business in 90s with the money that was quite easy to save during Socialistic times. They started with opening one “Car parts store” and eventually added 4 more over the years. We were financially doing very well, i guess you could say we were rich. My parents were extremely hard working and smart with money. They build their own house, out if the city and even bought 2 big apartments that would supposed to be for me and my brother. So looking from outside everything was great, but the quality of life went extremely downhill, my parents were overworked, those one month vacations were gone, simply because there was no time for that, if we could squeeze 6 days per year it was already a lot. With parents being overworked, health problems occurred (thankfully we didn’t adopted western healthcare practices, even now going to doctor is practically for free) My parents were stressed, working 6 days per week, my 7 years younger brother had the luxury of getting a lot of material things and opportunities that i hasn’t ( he started a lot of hobbies that he never followed trough) but he missed on having happy parents that had time for him, like for instance I had. Even though he had much more things I definitely consider myself as a lucky one. Fast forward to today. Due to globalisation and foreign corporations majoring of Slovenian businesses went bankrupt or were simply bought up by businesses from richer countries. Small country with less than 2 million of population on the border of Europe union simply cannot compete with richer, bigger, more established countries of EU. One of the biggest problems national problems based in my opinion is housing crisis. Prices are the same as for instance in Germany, where I live now for 6 years. Except that the average salary is 800€ net while in Germany is 2300€ net. Even with very poor calculation skills you can determine that anyone owning and paying of an apartment in their lifetime in Slovenia is practically impossible. This is my explanation of Socialism based on the experiences I collected while growing up in a very interested era, the conversion from Socialism to what I call “the disease that will end humanity - mother and father of Evil - Capitalism”

Thanks for your message. But don't worry, friend. Not all is lost. It was just a capitalist counter-revolution. History is cyclical: always in the transition from one economic formation to another, a counter-revolution occurs. So it was during the transition from slavery to feudalism. This process, by the way, was accompanied by the collapse of the Roman Empire. So it was during the transition from feudalism to capitalism. And now we are seeing the same reaction forces. Communism is inevitable; with its planned economy, it is much more efficient than capitalism. "Socialism or Barbarism")) Of the benefits of socialism, you forgot to mention education. It is the best, because society needs erudition and the desire to acquire knowledge.

Gabby Hyman - I hear that often. I wonder was it Alex Jones that marketed the expression. It's FASCISM when private ownership (Big Money capitalists) and the government form an alliance. Some of these other models tell you what your worth is or what your role will be. They decide how much food you get. Capitalism is risky because it’s a free for all, but the freedom makes it well worth it. You just said it in a much shorter way than me!

@carlosrodas423 5 лет назад
@@traplover6357 . The multiplier idea has flaws. Government spending is good as stimuli, at times, but that doesn't mean more tax and gov spending is always the solution. There is a plateau. Besides, there is no multiplier effect without a market system. In Marxism, the goal is the total elimination of capitalism and private for-profit business. Substituting market capitalism with a command system, requires a planning cycle of production that doesn't have flexibility or ability to adapt well to changing conditions. Plus it will inevitably lead to a totalitarian system. How does a a dollar spent by government have a different multiplier effect to a dollar spent by any other party?

A P H E X B O I Z What do you think of this quote? "The one thing I think that a lot of people don't take into account is that the US government has literally been fighting socialist movements and left-wing movements all throughout the world for 100+ years. Our entire foreign policy was completely focused on stopping the "spread of communisn".They've supported right-wing governments and death squads that have killed MILLIONS of people. They've overthrown so many governments in the pursuit of stopping socialism from spreading that it's not even funny. So do you really think that they're going to allow a socialist movement to take power here? And no that's not a conspiracy theory that's a fact. All you have to do is look at Guatemala, Chile, Iran, Nicaragua, South Africa, Venezuala, The Congo, or any of the other 50 or so governments the United States has helped to overthrow. It's about more than just the DNC screwing over Bernie. Just look at what they did to the Black Panthers and the anti-war movement. Any group of people that wants to get together to better the lives of the masses is harassed, sabotaged, infiltrated, etc... so its about more than just Democrats versus Republicans it's about the fact that the very Foundation of the belief system that our leaders have is opposed to Socialist policies, mainly because it would hurt their corporate donors.To the American power elite one of the longest lasting and most essential foreign policy goals has been preventing the rise of any society that might serve as a good example of an alternative to the capitalist model. This was the essence of the Cold War. Cuba and Chile were two examples of several such societies in the socialist camp which the United States did its best to crush. Like that the US has been involved in overthrowing country leaders in the name of stopping communism, but I also think we have to look at the relation of why they did that. The Cold War was against the USSR - Union of Socialist Soviet Republics (communistic country) so our enemy was communism, and since communism uses socialism as its economic modality the US had similar fears regarding socialism. For example, if Germany and Russia swapped places in WW2, the Cold War would have been the US against the threat of fascism. That being said, the US also doesn't like radical right wing countries (i.e - the middle east) so it's not just like they are against socialistic countries. Moreover, the US has been using Keynesian economics more and more as it's economic modality, so much so that people are beginning to support Government involvement in the economy more and more each day. Keynesian economics isn't that far off from socialism. But there's also an argument to be made that the reason Government keeps getting fueled by corporate donors isn't because of free-market capitalism or Austrian economics, but due to Keynesian economics and corporatism that creates the vessel for crony capitalism to exist. I also don't think the US's involvement in foreign affairs is due to that country being supportive of socialistic policies, but due to the resources that that country may have that we want. For example, Venezuela wants to drop the US dollar. Once the Venezuelan President said that, the US began becoming more aggressive toward Venezuela.

I am also compelled to believe that many more people would be starving if it were not for people like Jeff Bezos who have innovated and revitalized our economy. Thank god we don't get what we deserve. Deserve is an impossible thing to decide. Who deserves what? @@lukazupie7220 Because things arent black white white at all, contrary to the dumbed-down ideological narrative. Yes, absolutely, life was certainly better in SOME respects for a big percentage of the people for a long time, materially or psychologically. Which is why many former communists easily came back to power democratically a few years later. It was also worse in many other respects, depending on the class you currently belonged to and your priorities - just like now. It also depends on the particular country and timeframe you cherry-pick: I would much rather live in 1960s socialist East Germany, Czechoslovakia, or even Khrushchev-era USSR and live happily in relative peace of mind and decent material comfort, than in capitalist Latin America, Africa or even South Africa, with some sadistic ex-CIA snitch or general in charge, with crippling poverty, drug cartels, right-wing deathsquads, permanent army coups, racism, zero social state, umemployment at 20 % and so on. As for comparing statistics, first of all, capitalism is an economical system and marxism is not, its nonsensical to compare them as equal. Secondly, soviet-style socialism is basically state capitalism, NOT communism where people own the means of production. Quite on the contrary, this was a deeply centralized bureaucratic all-powerful state corporation. Lastly, you are not comparing systems here but countries - do you really feel like capitalist Chile outperformed socialist East Germany and so on? That capitalist India outperforms socialist China in innovations? That its fair to compare post-feudal potato country like Russia crippled in two wars with the US? All ten currently poorest countries are capitalist by the way.

I've heard Marxism/Socialist economics explained by different, knowledgeable people and it still doesn't makes sense as an acceptable form of a economic system. People who are on boards of directors got there based on a having knowledge and expertise in the field of business. Knowledge and expertise that they've accumulated by hard work and experience. They got there by merit. The owner of a company got it off the ground with their knowledge, hard work and a financial risk. Why should someone on the factory floor have the same say as these other people? Take in a equal or close to equal share of the profits? As the owner, if my business fail, I have more to lose; bankruptcy, creditors, debt. The average worker is it hard as well, but the same way he simply filled out an application to get employed by me, he can do the same to get right back in a similar position. As the owner of a failed business, I'm knocked back down the bottom of the hill again.
@raymondhartmeijer9300
@raymondhartmeijer9300 3 года назад
That's because a lot of big business is run like little empires with strict hierarchy. It has become so normal, that most of us can't even imagine a different way of producing. Ofc people with certain expertise would occupy certain positions inside a company, that wouldn't change. Also, the time spend within a company as a worker would matter. I believe the Mondragon co-op in Spain works something like this, when you are new at the job, you will get a salary just like in a capitalist company, after a year or so, part of your salary will have been accumulated so you can now buy a share of the company, which means you are now owning a small part of the company and can vote on business decisions. Within the company you can work your way up to different positions, but what you cannot do is grab a big slice of profit that everyone has worked for, on the basis of your position.

And the viewpoint was that if you were against Hitler, you were a communist. So, our country was siding and financially supporting Hitler. We never intended to get into the war, just support him with money. Kellogg, Brown & Root, as well as the Rothschild's, gave him money. When Churchill decided to stand up to Hitler and convinced FDR to join him, we changed sides. However, the wealthy never favored Socialism or unions. One of the methods to discredit them was to call them Communists. So, after the war, we decided to fight against the USSR.

I agree that socialistic programs can be helpful and, in fact, I believe that many of these tax-dodging multinational corporations should be taxed at a rate of something akin to 30%, and that money should be designated for a safety social net. As well, and we need more of the socialists vouching for this, is that humans need data sovereignty that corporations and the government don't have access to without a subpoena. Wolff specifically poses the question, what do you think will happen when you have a system that prioritizes profit and gives the rich the most power and excludes everyone else? He is making the point that it is inherent to capital as a system since it ALWAYS manifests this way. Also, capitalism failed multiple times at the end of the feudalist period. It took anywhere from 150 to 200 years to become instantiated as the dominant political system, maybe more, even then it was violently imposed on peasant classes when the rich enclosed the commons. So using the, "socialism has failed every time" line, doesn't really work. Very few of them were actually failures. They were experiments that yielded data and good and bad results

I have, thereafter, recoiled from supporting an organiszation that wishes to rule my life. The deal that I can live with is that I come to an arrangement with those who offer employement. I do not have to work for those I am negotiating with, I can go elsewhere. If the activist were to be in a position to run my life I would be under the thumb of whoever the activist supported. Richard does say that the new system would have a data base that directed workers to a point at which labour was required. Can you imagine the result of such a move to organise the lives of THE PEOPLE The proposer of the Socialist Agenda appears to have never worked outside of a university. His new direction is to remove a leader and put in its place a multi person leadership. Do you know of any existing political system, outside of Capitalism, that allows you to go wherever you wish and work , with every you wish, under a negotiation carried out by youself. When times where difficult, and they can be, my negotiations extended to Libya, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand and also in house working for Middle East Countries. These countries are severely opposed to allowing freedom on the individual, apart from Thailand. Hard to believe, but there is still honesty and intelligence in USA! Keep it up Jimmy, and have Wolff on frequently, - he's the best. Just, generally, don't look to the US politicians who get their backhanders from big business. After all, it's cheaper to grease a few hundred politicians than pay your fair share of tax! It's not uniquely a US problem, but that is where the rot is deepest.

What Prof Richard Wolf is shy of telling, immediately, that Marxism’s basic ideological criticism on Capitalism is that it,i.e, Marxism , is AGAINST private property. Marxism says Abolish Private Property. Prof Richard Wolf talks as a good ‘trade-unionist’, not a correct ideologist.

It‘s not anti social behavior. The problem is with the stupid workers who take those jobs even though they still can‘t afford food from the salary. If they organized and didn‘t take those crappy jobs, guess what, the salary would rise. That‘s why there are minimum wages in Europe. Basically the government jumps in for the workers‘ stupidity and inability to organize themselves and guarantees them the minimum wages they need for living. That‘s sad! It‘s easy to blame rich individuals and not mention what their innovations gave our society. Also, world hunger is decreasing steadily. Not because of communism but because of economic globalization and rational investments in those regions. Wealth is not laying on bank accounts sir. It‘s reinvested in new projects, progress, and ultimately social welfare!!!

Every system generates inequality. Every single one. That's the fact that Marxism ignores, among others. It correctly identifies companies that don't put their ethics first, though, which is a valid critique, but many companies do have ethical businesses.

8.50 Less than 1% of the 28 million businesses in the U.S. are publicly traded. The rest are privately held, so howbeit that the ‘owners/directors' are free to consult with their staff/workers, who would probably enjoy ‘profit share’ - but how many would relish overdraft, sign your house away share? Also, you can’t get around the Pareto Principle and Prices’ Law, you tolerate it at the family level, but as the family grows, (the no-good, alcohol-sodden brother - in - law syndrome) you don’t… Looks like the Prof’s resent for the wealthy, is clouding his mind.
@123TheArsenal321
@123TheArsenal321 5 лет назад
I am no expert, but I would assume those 1% probably produce more revenue and employ more people than millions of those businesses, which could be delis or what have you. This is good, but it means because they exist, other businesses have reduced revenue or can't compete in that area. It pigeon holes workers. Forget about any sort of measly profit share (are you talking about dividends?). It's about having a say at the place you effectively allow to operate. I think having some board members being elected by the actual workers for companies over a certain size is a good idea. I don't really agree with this guy that capitalism can't work, but that idea in particular seems pretty reasonable. Why is that a bad idea? Also Pareto's and Prices' law do not generalize well to manual labor/factory/assembly line type jobs. They are rules of thumbs observed in specific fields, and there are many confounding variables and ambiguous definitions when trying to prove them (like the definition of work).

Capitalism has lead to the greatest standard of living in the history of Mankind. That's all.
@trololn3rd
@trololn3rd 5 лет назад
72kalvin and prior to capitalism, feudalism had brought the greatest standard of living in the history of human kind. And prior to that it was slavery, and prior to that, communalism (getting more localized, less globalized). Marx never said capitalism wouldn’t bring about a certain level of prosperity. His theory of dialectical materialism actually says that capitalism is an unavoidable stage of human development, and as a stage it allows for the most efficient capital accumulation. His criticism was that it has inherent contradictions which cause crises (28, 2008, inequality, eroding democracy - also predicted by Adam Smith - and infinite growth with constrained resources). Flowing from this criticism he helped develop the theory of the *next* stage of development (feudalism -> capitalism -> socialism). Capitalism has lead to the greatest standard of living in the history of human kind. That IS all. Is history finished?

I just want to understand this. So if the people working for a company should all have a part and say about the decisions and how the profits should be spent, who puts out the money to make that company start to begin with? It seems to me that in order to make it fair all around, then everyone should be equal contributors also in the cost that's involved in starting and building up a particular business, and then it would be fair for them to reap the equal benefits from it. Not everyone wants to be a contributor, that's the truth, but there are many people who have no problem being given the benefits for something they haven't worked hard for.
