Great to see this up, love Jimmy MacCarthy's songs and I always love to hear the man behind the lyrics always doing hiw own renditions of the songs. Saw him in the National Concert Hall almost three years ago, would love to see him again. Jimmy's a musician and a poet in the truest sense and he has given Mary much of a boost in her mainstream success

Absolute magic! Not only the two greatest singers of this song, we have the writer of the song as well! The song is about the Town of Kenmare in County Kerry in the southwest of Ireland, Neidin, being the Gaelic name, meaning Little Nest!

The song is actually written about about the town of Kenmare in Co.Kerry, Ireland, otherwise known as Néidín (which means little nest in Irish). The road away from Kenmare winds and twists away though the mountains which are flanked with Rhododendrons, beautifully encapsulated in the song as a metaphor for a dance with a woman.

An incredible talent for The 1990s . Jump forward to 2022 times have changed so does the voice, time to retire. Thanks for the many years of your early days, but alas I can’t listen to you in 2022 . Saw you on the Late Last show , pity your voice is going and your manager should have told you. So should tubbs. But I suppose no one wants to hurt your feelings

This song isn't about any of the things people have been saying! As I Leave Behind Neidin is about Emmigration! Neidin is the Irish translation of the town of Kenmare and the speaker in the song is telling the person who is leaving not to forget Kenmare or to come back. It's such haunting song and this is my favorite performance of it. It is simply haunting.

I know they say the past is a different country and you wouldn't want to live there. but in what circumstances were Jimmies gansy ever acceptable?

Sadly, this is not the sixth track of the 2nd disc in my newly delivered copy of the "Twenty-five Years - Twenty-five Songs" CD set. The track on the CD differs in that there seems to be no Jimmy. In fairness, the track on the disc I received is the one one can preview on the mary-black.net web site's description of "Twenty-five Years - Twenty-five Songs." There's nothing wrong with the arrangement or performance; I was simply expecting the live version duet in this RU-vid video.
