I agree, love this record. as above, one voice, guitar and the poetry. All three become a beautiful expression of human nature. Sometimes just the sky is personal and relevant to me. My scars are very feint now. Freedom of working with them renders them impotent. Never expected them to turn up in a song. Thank you MCC x
From this rough-handed, well-worn, and somewhat conservative carpenter of 68, I have treasured every moment spent in the Mary Chapin Carpenter catalog of songs. Whether driving thru the mountains at night, or in a darkened room, she speaks to me and I can tell her, yes, I never knew how to say it or feel it, but that's just how I have it. There are other songwriters, other singers, but nobody can reach in like MCC.
God given talent .... Captivating. I just close my eyes and I'm right there in that story! Thank you Mary ... bless you. Thank you for being part of my life.
I have two heros named Mary. The first on was my boss in 1969 as she owned the guitar studio where I taught, with her son Doug. Much later I discovered she is the second oldest rosie riviter at 101! Mary Torres Called me last year and sang God Bless America in amost perfect pitch age 100. Second hero is my current boss Mary, an 80 yr old PHD psychologist. Ok one more..a Mary in santa rosa running forgotten felines where they have altered over 40 thousand ferals Marys are super humans eh? this one always makes me cry. Shes getting better every day and I hope shes singing at 100 too.
Has it been thirty years really. Wow my , loved here so much and now do I. I wore out my cassettes and CDs and now I listen on my Bluetooth speaker and my Alexa device.
Been a watchin and a listenin to MCCarpenter since the very early days. She may be playing solo as she is here or in a five+ piece ensemble but the quality in guitar and voice is always...there. However what continues to amaze me most is how she continues to produce such meaningful song titles and the artistic lyrics to support them for well over thirty years now. Onward Mary Chapin Carpenter...Onward for us all !
Mary Chapin Carpenters song Edge of the World touches my soul deep about when losing my best friend and partner Joey Lemons who passed in my arms on September 23rd 2020. It was the most helpless feeling I have ever felt in my life. That song is like when she sings it I relive that moment. I wouldn't trade that total love experience for the world. I hope when its my turn to move on I have someone who's arms I can be in and look up into there beautiful eyes and soul as I leave. Thank you Mary
Beautiful! So much charm and grace, even in jeans and hiking boots. Watch for her little curtesy to the “audience” after the final song, “Sometimes Just The Sky”.
I just started following MCC extensively. Of course I knew her first and other top chart songs; And I am now binging on her Songs From Home. I am shocked by is truly how talented she is. Pure genius. I suspect I know her childhood as she has provided autobiography through her songs. I have never seen a better song written and the musicality of "He Thinks He'll Keep Her". That song summarizes the genius she is. I've been blown away.
We always enjoy back stories surrounding songs. Have all the records but for the one no longer available, "time*sex*love". MCC'S remake of "Heroes and Heroines" acoustically and solo is beautiful.
To be able to sit here and listen to Mary Chapin up close and personal like this is such a treat! Love her new “live” album and I will continue to sing her songs and share them at the Jersey Shore. She has impacted my life (musically and otherwise...) Thank you!
After so many years, this is the first time I really concentrated on her out of the endless cacaphony, and .... my God, what I've missed. She's brilliant in every way.
"I hold out my open hands despite my empty arms..." Well, that just saved me $250 dollars an hour! 😉 Seriously though, Ms. Carpenter has a way to encapsulate so much "depth of meaning" with just a few simple words. We are all fortunate to be graced by & with her poetry through song. Love & Light to you all out there in RU-vid Land and BeYoNd ! 😉 💜 🍀 👻 🎶

I am not ,and never been a country music fan, but I love Mary Chapin Carpenter. Her voice and lyrics just take me to a beautiful place. First heard her sing Haley's Comet song, and I knew she would be a part of my love of music. Brings me back to happier times in my life. Things are not so easy now and I struggle every day, but she takes me to melancholy, but happy places. Thank you, MCC.
Hard to believe, her voice is even richer than when she started out. That last song she played -- knocked me on my ass. Keep up the great songwriting, MCC (though you don't have anything to prove).
Have enjoyed her music since "How Do" in 1989, which now seems ages ago. All one needs is a guitar, a bunch of talent and a strong intelligence. Chapin has all three, and so much more. In love; always will be. She's someone you'd sure like to have beside you.
My fav female singer, been a fan of hers for many, many years. First saw Mary live at the Reading Hexagon Theatre UK and a few years later at the Chiswick Theatre, London. Have all her records. Such an honest singer and songwriter.
Story writer in her songs. Mary's stories resonate and educate and make you think, yeah I've experienced that too. Mary joins the pantheon of great writers and singers.
I took a C.D. of Mary Chapin Carpenter to the hospital back in the 90s leaving the jewel case at home . When I returned I could not find the C.D. Hope whoever found it is a fan of her music today.Still have the jewel case .
I Love Mary like her wonderful music time has magical made the even more beautiful meaningful. What a amazing gift she is to the World. Lucky and loving it
Always my favorite female artist. I have all her music and listen over and over but love these unplugged versions as well as her songs from home during the pandemic. Never get tired of MCC and the message she shares with us. Thanks Mary.
Mary you do not need overdubs or technology or questions about your songs ( just let her sing ), ....your questions are answered in her songs , she is a poet with a voice made in heaven . Her songs resonate with so many of us and for me personally in such an incredible way . She has an amazing gift of translating her soul experiences into words and music. She does not even need to speak or explain , she says more in those songs . Lovely to listen to you like this , I missed you in St. Anne's Cathedral Belfast last time you were in N. Ireland , maybe next time if you come back ....Come back soon, ....but I have always your beautifully crafted songs of life , wonderful Mary. Thank you .
Great writer, singer, guitarist,a real role model,Colvin was her backup singer! Take notice, you young stars,Maren M,and Kacey M. She is the real deal, listen to this!! Wonderful Patti quote.
OMG No MakeUp and still as beautiful as ever! ... and I've been to the Twist and Shout! ... Lived in Md back then. Went to school in St. Mary's County! Always loved her ... and her music!
Purely wonderful, thank you MCC for this performance. Your words always touch me especially lately where I lost my younger sister to pancreatic cancer and myself battling a neurodegenerative disease that has temporarily diagnosed as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. As you say sometimes just the sky though is all one needs to keep going on and enjoying the simple wonders of living. Again, thank you so much.
