This presentation used the book “The Five” as its main source. While some people take issue with this book disrespectful comments that are not constructive will be deleted and the commenter blocked. I enjoy discussion but don’t tolerate abuse. Thanks! The vast majority of people are great and have nothing to worry about. This is a positive channel and place. The jerks can just move along!

We don't know much about her because she was Irish. Irish records are awful at that time and mary jane kelly is an extremely common name. We know that she is definitely an Irish immigrant. She was known as fair mary for her beauty. And dark Mary, because she was quiet when sober, but when she was drunk she was loud and sing Irish songs. The landlord did confirm that she got letters from Ireland. She was Irish. Irish women are different not uncommon for Irish women to travel to London. No proof she was well educated. She moved from Ireland at 10 and died 25. It is said She had a definite Irish accent. So I doubt know where you get that from

@@MMorbid There was 2 witnesses at least who saw her between 8 and10 in the morning and wearing the same clothes that were folded up on the chair by one account. In a murder enquiry things like that shouldn't be just skipped over and ignored,and also in people's research into the case just because it doesn't suit the author's theory.

I've loved this series as you are the first on RU-vid to humanize the victims. Most just call them prostitutes, rather they were or not. Throwing everyone into one catagory. Their stories are unique to them, they chose at the time to live in Jack The Rippers killing field. Not probably by their wishes. I feel they were all desperate for home and family, but Victorian England was a rough Era to live in with strict social barriers. 😮 Makes you wonder how these woman survived as long as they did? We are somewhat that way today when we see homeless people. We have been told they chose their circumstances. I don't think that's true. Yet society does nothing to make a change. This story highlighted for me that things haven't changed very much!!! Wonderful job. I have only been subscribed a day or two, but your channel is fascinating. 😊😊😊

I personally believe that Mary and her landlord John McCarthy were related. There had been several facial reconstructions of Mary and she bears some resemblance to actress Kim Kendall who is the granddaughter of John McCarthy. McCarthy was a shady character who owned lodging houses - he later owned Crossingham’s Lodging House where Annie Chapman had stayed - and was involved in gambling. As someone who most likely had eyes and ears everywhere, I think he knew a lot more about Mary and perhaps even her murder than he ever let on.

I agree with you so much, I would much rather know her identity than the killer. With DNA I think we realistically could get that answer if the precise location of her grave was known. I think that’s the problem, there’s uncertainty about that. I believe permissions were obtained to exhume her but it would have required disturbing other graves so is unlikely to ever be done. * This was a very compassionate documentary. I think you're right about a lot of the things you said about her. It should never have happened. A researcher by the name of Christer Holmgren has convinced me that the historical Jack the Ripper, was a man who worked for Pickford's delivering meat for butchers and a slaughterhouse, so his clothes would typically be stained with blood on a regular basis. His name was "Charles Allen Lechmere", and unfortunately, he lived a long, prosperous life. There is one photo of him floating around the internet. * I don't know if you've seen that documentary called "The Missing Evidence: Jack the Ripper", but Holmgren has managed to convince a lot of people that Lechmere *was* Jack the Ripper, including James Scobie, who was the Queen's Barrister. They also show another artists rendering of what Mary Kelly may have looked like, and does look very similar to the 2 reconstructions you show here.

There were people that saw her twice and a lady claiming talked with her that morning and she didn't feel well and her clothes she was wearing were different and other clothes were folded neatly on the bed with the corpse that's why they presumed was her. She was allegedly pregnant or was sick from the sight of whomever that was. Someone claiming to be her great great great granddaughter had a locket with a man she presumed was her husband but it was a lover. Mary had a baby? Suppose she got away and had a better life? I believe the royals are somehow connected. I dont believe they killed those women but were connected. 5 deaths and stopped. The 4 other women were in their 40s and she was 25.Cover up maybe? I tend to think that it weren't Mary, and I was hoping that you were going to prove it. You see, one of her neighbours were talking to her that morning, I think it was said to be at 08:30. Mary told the neighbour that she had been sick because of drinking too much the night before, but if it was one of her friends that was murdered in her room, then obviously that would have made her run outside and be sick. Later on that morning, two people testified that they saw Mary. I'm now thinking that Mary then went to her ex-boyfriend to inform him. They then came up with a plan so he would say that it was Mary's body, and when it's all over that the two of them would go and live some where else together. That would mean that they were no longer in debt. I know that her friend Mary was alive as she was at the inquest, but what about this Julia.? And what's her surname.? Could she have been reported has missing not long after.? Could the murder victim be Julia.?

I can tell you who she was, she was related to the real Jack the Ripper through marriage. Marry Jane Kelly was not her real name her real name was Marry Brider. Because she was going into prostitution she had to change her name, so she used her brother in law's name Kelly the real Jack the Ripper. That is why Kelly went looking for her for revenge on her and the family. As you know he found her. That is the short version of her life and Jack the Ripper's life.
@davekeating.
@davekeating. 4 месяца назад
Mary Kelly had little or no education. She could neither read nor write. She insisted, ex partner, Joseph Barnett read the latest Ripper newspaper stories to her. Mary was most likely from an Irish Traveller or gypsy family. They have very large families. Close knit, secretive, hence no records. Also, her sister and aunt went from town to town selling their wares - most likely tin pots and trinkets. That is typical Traveller (hence the name), itinerant selling or hawking. Young Irish Traveller women are very good looking, great singers and performers. If Mary had a serious rift with her extended Traveller family, she would be ostracised and never welcomed back!

Yes and no; the shape of her face is fairly easy to discern, as is the forehead and position of the eyes. Though it isn’t readily apparent to the naked eye the position of her nose and mouth can also be determined. You’re right though that the features themselves will never be known but I think it’s possible to get a generic idea of how her face was shaped and I was fascinated by the artists’ work and the process of reaching their final images, especially the ones that provided images of each stage of the process. While imprecise, these artists work is all we’ll ever have.

What are your takes on the theory that Mary Jane was not killed atall (since two of her neighbours said with confidence that they had seen her early the next morning)? It was rather some othe unfortunate lady, and that is why the face was destroyed beyond recognition to help Mary Jane escape JtR.
@MMorbid
@MMorbid 2 года назад
I confess I have not heard this theory, though it was used in the film From Hell and I thought it a clever twist. Given that we don’t even know who she was for sure anyway and DNA testing and forensic science didn’t exist at all I suppose anything is possible, but I highly doubt it’s true. I tend to believe the simplest answer is the most likely and I can’t envision why she would involve Jack the Ripper to kill a friend so she could disappear. Firstly it sounds like she was too kind to ever do that to somebody, and second, she would have to know who he was. I guess maybe a scenario like in the movie is possible but no one reported a female friend staying with her. I think the obliteration of her face made rumors like that kind of inevitable.

only one person said they saw her alive when she was actually dead and the person who they saw was wearing Mary Jane Kelly's veil when no one else had which brings the theory of Jack the ripper actually being a woman which then brings Mary wheeler into all this the woman who killed another woman in aborted the woman's baby and slit the woman's neck to where the woman's head almost got decapitated and then there's the weird coincidence that after Mary wheeler was hung for killing this other woman and I'm speaking of that was pregnant all the killing stops there were no more Jack the ripper killings

i don't think that theory can be dismissed at all. The witbess Mrs Maxwell who saw the woman Mary Kelly at 8.30 am and 9am llived exactly opposite the passage into the court. She would be maybe 25 feet away on a narrow street, and would be familiar with her over a number of months as stated. She said she witnessed Mary Kelly being sick in the road, The connetations are obvious. She had other women staying there, and all the victims lived or knew somebody within yards of the address. There are other pointers that make this scene complicated and suspicuous.
@MMorbid
@MMorbid 2 года назад
@@peteclarke9416 yes, but as with most conspiracy theories things quickly get too complicated to make the scenario work. It’s far more likely those witnesses were mistaken. In the last 133 years eyewitness testimony has proven to be extremely unreliable and often inaccurate, something laid bare by DNA testing which has exonerated countless people who were convicted because of eyewitness accounts that were just plain wrong. People don’t do it on purpose, it’s just how our brains work. Sometimes we see what we want to see, or our minds just change memories with the passage of time. Who knows, but as I mentioned above there’s no way to prove it either way anyway. I personally doubt it but it doesn’t hurt anything to believe it. I find it so touching that Mary Jane took in women who had nowhere else to go. She wasn't a wealthy woman, but she did her best to keep her friends safe. I think it says a lot about her character. Whoever she really was, she was clearly a kind, caring and loving young woman who deserved so much more than her fate. It's so sad that not one member of her family could ever be located to even attend the funeral. Given the great pains she took to distance herself from her past, perhaps that's how she preferred it. Life in Whitechapel, grim as it was, must have for some reason been preferable to the life she left behind.

That has been thorougly debunked though, sadly. The theory was talked about 20 years ago, and a film made. Or did you find new evidence? The only viable suspect, tied to the crimescenes is Lechmere. Christer Holmgren found new evidence last year. Check it out if you havent seen it.

I believe they actually had permission to exhume her and do just that. But sadly I don’t think they know exactly which grave is hers and locating her would require disturbing many graves. So it hasn’t been done and probably won’t be. Also, ids of Jane and John Doe’s this old is pretty rare but it has been done. Gabulosis has an episode about a body in a cave that turned out to be an old West outlaw from the 1880s, so it is possible if they could get to her body.

The population of Manhattan is 1.6 million. The population of London in 1888 was 4 million. If we employ the laws of probability and some common sense, what is the likelihood that a father could find his daughter? Nil. What is the likelihood anyone (not the author) would be able to gather this much information on a prostitute in her 20's? Nil. If the source of the author's information is 'The Five', it's a load of hooey. Good effort and good channel though.
@MMorbid

There would be information about a prostitute in her twenties if they were murdered by one of the most famous serial killers in history. These stories came from people who knew her, I am assuming from court testimony. If it’s hooey it’s because Mary made up everything about her past. The disrespect shown to that book is astonishing to me. I was impressed with her research and can’t help but note a tinge of misogyny in the vitriol. That is a general statement not directed at yourself, but when I was researching this series I joined some groups of ripperologist discussion boards. I was so offended and disgusted by the discussions of this book I had to leave.

She was killed for love Barnet Kelly’s boyfriend probably killed her mk had gone to bed he let himself in with lost key and locked the door when he left he was at the murder scene the next day but didn’t tell the police how to get in using the broken window ,why did he kill her because he wanted to scare her off the streets which worked for a time until he lost his job then run up debts with the rent and she finally kicked him out the news papers of the day created a monster ,he also killed the 2nd and 4th of the 5 who all had connections with mk earlier that day on his visit she had told him not to come near her again it was then he decided what he was going to do because she had found and loved some one else he lied when he said when he left her on good terms the day he visited the day of the murder, the first murder was done by Charles cross the 3rd was one of the gangs of the time , her heart was taken because in his mind he didn’t want anyone else to have it and that was why the murders ended ask yourself why were her neatly folded clothes not touched and yet other clothes were burnt the rag left in the doorway after the 4th murder also gives the direction he was heading back to Dorset st where he lived until she kicked him out .

Yeah Kelly would be a very common name besides Mary Jane there was two other Kelly's a John Kelly and a suspect with the name of Michael Kelly that looks eerily like the drawing very much almost identical. But I don't know if he's a suspect he went to America where they said he continued killing and they dug up a few prostitutes that were mutilated shortly after that but nobody knows I believe Charles cross was the name he sometimes used was the killer the one that found Polly Nichols body or Mary Jane Nichols if you prefer. Charles lechmere which was his real name and one Robert Paul found the body he didn't think she was dead he wanted the proper up and latchmere said I'm not touching her. Wanting to get away he suggested that Paul and himself go look for a policeman his intent was for each to go their separate ways and he could bow out and get out of the crime scene but Robert Paul started walking with him. Independent of that a few minutes later a policeman showed up and said there was blood under her head now if it had been there when Robert Paul was there he would have known she was dead and wouldn't suggest propping her up. What that proves was when Robert Paul came to Polly Nichols she had literally been killed seconds no more than a minute or two before. Why because the blood had not even leaked out yet all the cuts were made after death including the throat. So the blood wouldn't spurt out but it would slowly leak and there was nothing there with s*** proves that she had just been killed literally seconds before. All the victims were found on a path either that he would have taken to work when he would have been on that path or on the path from his house to his mother's house and the victims were on though that path as well when he was on that path. So he can be tied to all five victims no other suspect can even be tied to one victim. A few more pieces of evidence first of all Charles lechmere lied and gave his false name at the inquest and to the police officers so he was trying to hide his identity. And he made a mistake while speaking at the end quest he said he had heard Robert Paul coming and he came upon the body and knelt down and he could still hear Robert Paul coming. Robert Paul said he heard nothing there should have been two sets of footsteps his and lechmere but there was not because latchmere was busy mutilating the body. Buck's row enhanced sound and it was known for that both men were work boots and he heard Robert Paul quite clearly walking a couple of hundred yards behind him Robert Paul should have also heard latchmere. However he said it was eerily quiet when he walked down the street the only thing he heard was his footsteps. Let's mirror is the ripper and I'm about 99.99% sure of that.

@katesleuth1156 Год назад
You mean Lechemere and not “let’s mirror”. I agree. It’s much simpler than people think. You are correct in saying that Lechemere, the Ripper, walked these streets where the women were murdered, early every morning on his way to work.

@@MMorbid I'll have to read the book, but from what I've seen & heard of it so far seems to border on historical fiction. Virtually concocting a character and backstory out of whole cloth. I've been a Ripper buff for over 40 yrs (my ex started a novel about Mary Kelly in the 80s, but never finished it), have taken several Ripper tours and read most of the JTR books up until recent years. If "The Five" has as many "Possibly, maybe, might, could have, may have, could well, probably, my guess, best guess, supposedly, likely" and "unlikely" Qualifiers as your narrative does, then it amounts to nearly pure speculation -- or worse. Like putting a "face" on that mutilated corpse of Kelly. Whole cloth.

I think the author did the best she could. Following her movements seemed to be fairly easy, where she lived, etc. But she told so many stories to different people about who she was. All the author could do was see if she could verify them. Bottom line no one knows who Jack’s final victim was. You’re right, she was a character invented, by the victim herself, which made it impossible to identify her. But in learning the stories she told about herself we can at least learn how she wanted the world to see her.
