Elizabeth Stride was a Swedish immigrant. In Sweden she was considered a “lecherous woman,” in London she co-ran a coffee shop, was a con artist and eventually a murder victim of Jack the Ripper, the most famous and mysterious serial killer in history. This is the story of her life. This is the third episode of the Jack the Ripper Victim’s series. My main source was the brilliant book, “The Five” by Hallie Rubenhold and I highly recommend reading it. It is a brilliant commentary on the social history of Victorian London, and specifically the treatment of women.

This presentation used the book “The Five” as its main source. While some people take issue with this book disrespectful comments that are not constructive will be deleted and the commenter blocked. The area of Little London of Gothenburg is known as the Haga area. Haga is still around and active with shops, coffee houses, etc. Haga was known to be an area of musicians and artists. Haga was not such a clean place back then some would say a red light district. The British cleaned up Haga and made the area for musicians and artists..

Very commendable to tell the story of the victims and not the monster that murdered them. There were not many options for a marked poor girl back then. Even today the amount of money and time spent on finding and investigating a person's murder depends upon the wealth and prestige of their families.

When I first started I was so upset at people turning it off so early so I thought I needed to convey the information faster. So I sped the speed up. I regret that now and no longer do it. The person who chases after Israel Schwartz wasn’t Elizabeth’s attacker. We can’t definitively say whether he was actually chasing him or if he was also running away Someone within the police at the time has claimed that Israel identified a man named Aaron Kosminski as Jack the Ripper but wouldn’t testify against him because they were both Jewish. There is also no record of an Aaron Kosminski in the asylum he was claimed to have been put in after being caught. JTR is a very interesting rabbit hole to go down, I’m glad more people are starting to view the victims as actual people

Firstly the saying is 'There is no honour amongst thieves' second they aren't thieves and thirdly if you believe that story he could have saved 2 women. I doubt one new would insult another by calling him lipski which jtr shouted at Israel Schwartz which was an insult to Jewish people.

I actually sped up the speed because people’s attention spans are so short and I talk very slowly in real life but in recent videos I have not sped it up as much, deciding that if someone doesn’t have the attention span to watch the whole thing they probably aren’t my audience. Bearing in mind married women who's husbands went with sex workers and passed syphilis onto them would, if examined, maybe through pregnancy, could also be added to the list and have to undergo the chemical and degrading treatments.

If you look at the medical records nothing matches the ripper murders. She wasn't strangled the angel's of the cut and knife used were different. She was only 1 killed south of Whitechapel Road, shd was also only 1 found on her side. There was a lot more blood at the scene, and also, there was blood from thd body that ran in to the street an gutter.

This was a different time. Indeed, women couldn't aquire a wage in any job that could support them and children. This is a fact. Love is what lead many young women to marry. Unfortunately, this is on no way the soft, or secure, option.

The standard of living for people has risen but tragedy for the victims of societal deviance has remained the same. What a sad society we live in. Her story could very well coincide with today’s women who fall victims to abuse, drugs and sexual violence. 😢

I’ve been to the JTR museum in London - it was built on the in the site where Elisabeth Stride was autopsied.

Oh, husbands did not count! In that era, "Alone with a man" referred to "being a lone with a man you were not married to and who did not belong to your family" - being alone with your husband was perfectly acceptable. I would certainly be seen as a lecherous woman in that era, being out alone at night with a man who neither belonged to my family nor was my husband, haha

If you study Elizabeth's dead body, you will see the stitches down the front. This is from a forensics dead body police bag. They zipper down the front. Elizabeth has been through this before. It seems, possibly, many times.

I have never believed Liz Stride is one of the Ripper's victims. For me, this is making an event fit a theory instead of using facts. There are marks on her that seem to indicate that she was grabbed harshly by both upper arms and possibly shaken in anger. The newspapers made her a victim, but she doesnt have any of the same physical trauma. However, to sell papers, a double event would certainly do the trick.

thanks a lot for the information you've obviously worked extremely hard on researching. I've wondered about the women's lives & families since I first watched/read the ripper case with my big sister. it still boils my blood now when I hear "they were only whores!"
