Mary couldn't see what a vile & violent man he was. It seems that no one warned her. Elizabeth knew this was a disaster, because his reputation was OFF!!
Oh that’s not why Elizabeth didn’t want her to marry him. She didn’t know that part. It was that they were both catholic and both had a claim to the throne. But yes. He was vile and violent.
Darnley was an awful man and Mary was a fool for all her intelligence. She was a poor judge of people and unfit to rule. I have little sympathy for this woman.
Darnley was an awful man. And unfortunately Mary didn’t wait to find that part out before she married him. That doesn’t mean she was unilaterally a poor judge of people. And I’ll go with your argument that she was….we have to look at why perhaps she was: the political and relgious unrest that Scotland was in at the time, the fact that the nobles had incredible power from having multiple monarchs in a row come to the throne when then were children, being sent to France at an incredibly early age, very very different education from boys who were raised to be kings in their own right. Sympathy might be a little bit more justified? Just my own thoughts.
