It surprised me and has become one of my favorite Frankenstein films, I didn't know Branagh was doing his fancy styles even back then. I love all that over the top editing and I didn't feel those pacing issues you're talking about.
My big problem with the pacing and editing is once the creature tracks down Frankenstein at his home. The whole sequence of the younger brother goes missing, Justine looking for him and for some reason takes a nap in the barn, the creature planting the locket, what happens after, feels incredibly rushed and disjointed. It’s not the worst thing ever, it’s just something that felt off.
Hey Adam. This also came out 2 weeks ago here in Canada. I picked it up at the same time I bought the 4k of Robocop. I also haven't seen this for awhile. Wasn't quite as good as I remember, but still enjoyable. I think I will enjoy it more when I watch again. As you mentioned the cinematography is oustanding! The scenes in the countryside & in the forest looked amazing! The one thing I was really disappointed about was the packaging. I thought it was going to be like Robocop. I mean not even a slip case. So disappointing.
Great Review here in the UK Zavvi have released a limited edition steel book which is fantastic and includes the booklet etc! Not watched it yet but looking forward to it! I owned the film on Lazerdisc so I'm a long term fan...
Strange cover art. I've actually been wanting a 4K upgrade of this for years, and just now realized this was it. Kept seeing the cover art and just assumed it was a new remake lol. Just ordered it today finally.
This came out in cinemas in SDDS - and wow if you were only there mate . So sad this can’t be replicated at home, but happy with the 4K picture upgrade. I will just have to turn the volume up to replicate that SDDS cinema experience. SONY DYNAMIC DIGITAL SOUND. So sad Sony gave up on it.
hey Adam. I remember being disappointed at the theater when this came out I was going back-and-forth whether or not to pick this up I think I’m just gonna wait for hopefully a black Friday deal as I would like to see it in 4K especially after you reminded me of the cinematography I do remember that looking really good I do on the DVD but haven’t watched it probably since the DVD came out. Sorry to hear the soundtrack was just average an outstanding mix really could’ve helped this film anyways thanks for all you do and have a great one👍
