Facts. She realized late in her career that pop was NOT her lane. That's why the "Red Hot" album never took off, and neither did her solo career until she started singing jazz.
She doesn't have the voice for this time of garbage & Mary's my GIRL, but her solo stuff was TRASH w/thee exception of Red Hot, I guess it was alright for its day in the disco era. Mary has a real gritty, soulful & at this time, mature style, so she should've only done Soul & R-n-B music.
I love this song. To me it's a quintessential 80's sounding song. Put Debbie Gibson or Tiffany on the track and it would have done better. Not number 1 but would have charted. And Mary sounds awesome here!
I think she was trying too hard. She would have been better off reverting to what she was good at, a more calm less hectic graceful stage presence and bringing to life the American songbook with Irving Berlin and other classics as well as the Beatles songs that she did so well when she was part of the Supremes. Ironically these Black girls were at their best with classic Americana and definitely could outclass the Beatles with their own songs. ( see the Supremes album A Little bit of Liverpool, it is excellent). . Nonetheless i would always give Mary an A+ for effort, despite self inflicted hardships she persevered and overall was a great woman and exceptionally beautiful when younger.
I see all these people saying that they love Mary but their saying she couldn't sing or she can't sing and saying her music horrible this specific songs and commenting on her hair saying she couldn't wear her hair like Diana anybody can wear that hairstyle they way her fans downgrade mary it's horrible Diana's fans some of them are cruel .
Mary: “I met Tom (Jones) and fell in love with him…then found out that he was married and my heart was crushed”… Everyone knew he was married. It was never a secret. Mary making excuses for herself for having affairs with married men. Oh the hypocrisy!
She looked beautiful, but the performance itself was something you'd expect from "Star Search", or the local karaoke bar. It's a shame she chose such horrible songs during the 80's and 90's, minus a few gems. She switched over to jazz far too late, and that's where she belonged the whole time.
mary always incorporated which ever female at the time was popular so took their style their hair their makeup look from whitney to braids to anita baker
Im sorry i love Mary Wilson but this song is horrible like really bad. For one she doesnt connect to the lyric. Second her voice isnt the best. Third the song gets annoying and the bridge where she was talking was horrible. Fourth the song never picks up and her adlibs at the end sucked. And fifth the song sounds so generic and you can tell they were trying so hard to get a hit. Thats the reason Mary put up with Dianas shit because she knew the Supremes was all she had vs Florence who really had a voice and knew she deserved to sing also. Like it or not Diana ross voice was perfect for crossover. Im not trying to bash Mary because i love her shes beautiful inside and out, full of knowledge and insight, interviews very well and seems real beautiful and genuine. I just think this song wasnt it and her other attempts to sing solo shes a better harmonizer.
@Ron Rossmore Yep. I think her 80's "career" was just taking whatever songs she could get from producers, because 90% of her music from that era is fit for the trash can.
That hairdo doesn't work for Mary, the way it does for Diana! Only Diana Ross can work that kind of hairdo. That's just the way it is! Mary is extremely jealous of Diana Ross. But the truth is..Had it not been for the talented Diana, the Primettes would never have lasted long enough to even become The Supremes. Actually, it was Diana's ship! Mary and Florence were just fortunate enough to be the initial crew members.
Could she look any more like Diana Ross 😂😂😂!!!. This proves that she couldn't sing on her own and she was at her best being a BACKING SINGER and HAND CLAPPER LOL!!!. She should have concentrated on her own 'career' instead of trying to ruin Diana Ross's awesome, glorious career!!!.
