Mary was a brave soul to carry on a solo career singing Supremes songs. She gave the public what they wanted a venues because Mary wouldn’t have been accepted trying to promote herself other than. Mary’s goods was not singing songs that were arranged in a higher key but she was a Supreme for 17 years so why not. I supported her all through the Ross less years and am proud of her for carrying on and never giving up. She looks damn good with no wig on.
Awe no, no Mary, I don't like this interpretation of these classic songs, the problem is Mary's singing style is more gritty, soulful, almost gospelesque & I feel she has them speeded up to much. It's like she needed some real "musical", "vocal" professionals on her team that could've given her real constructive criticism, instruction & correction - bcuz she NEEDED IT BAD & perhaps she could've gone much further had she had the right constructive criticism & direction & I say all that genuinely, as a huge Mary Wilson fangirl, my Mom grew up looking up to & loving the Supremes, so it was only natural for me to see the same beauty & sparkle in them as she did‼️
@@MauriceRivers415 I agree those long wigs sometimes did not compliment the actual beauty of this woman. Shorter sexy styles brought out her beauty best. As the years came and gone the arrangements on a lot of those Supremes songs got better for Mary and she sounded good singing them but still there was some she could’ve cut from her act period. RIP Mary.
Love her own style in interpreting her songs, since she was originally the alto filler background voice on these songs,, totally different from Miss Ross'. But that's why she was great in her part in The Supremes in the background in the 60s & 70s. No one can sing the leads of these Classic Hits like Diana Ross,, but Miss Wilson totally stepping up to continue her Supreme Legacy.. What SUPREME STYLE.. Stoned Love,, GO Miss Wilson. Mary Wilson ROCKS!
Gm edagdwg thanks for sharing this story of what happens when you get a chance to sing for yourself she enjoyed singing that song love her Linda j.peace love her ❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
It's soooooooo nice to see her enjoying herself as a child of God being yourself is a gift from God to sing for people that love you linda j.☮️☮️☮️☮️❤️❤️🌹🦋🦋🦋🦋🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Mary looks great here! I don’t understand why anyone would expect her not to sing songs by the Supremes. That’s her initial claim to fame. If I saw any of the Supremes, I’d expect them to sing something from the Supremes catalog. I liked the medley. Nobody sounds like Diana Ross to me, so when I hear sings she lead by someone else, I don’t expect them to sound like her.
In my opinion, Mary should've been promoting new material or songs from the "Red Hot" album, not material that was 10-15 years old. Diana was entering her phase with RCA by this time, and Mary should've been further ahead than she was. She learned too late that pop wasn't her lane.
Mary, in her second book, discusses hiring "The Two Karens" (Jackson and Ragland) after the birth of her second child (September 29, 1977). She says she went right to work hiring new singers after recovering from her pregnancy, so she most likely hired Karen before the end of 1977.
The energy was good! But no shade, this was not good. I think she should’ve performed songs that fit her voice and vocal range, but this wasn’t it! You gotta remember that those songs were written for Diana’s voice and Diana’s style- it was not written for Mary’s voice, or even Flo (who was arguably the best signing Supreme) But I didn’t know Diana was the godmother of Mary’s daughter… I wonder if that changed after Mary released her book lol
It's so sad, that people actually really believe that people should sacrifice their life dreams and ambitions, to suit and satisfy other people's wishes. Diana wanted a solo career, she wanted to do other things apart from sing, she wanted to act. So what was she supposed to do, forfeit all of that, because she was once a Supreme, and the other Supremes and the fans thought she should only do that FOREVER????? It has happenden with every single group. Do you think a group that got together when they were 15, will still be together at 70, 55 years of doing the same thing, do you not think they would have evolved as people as they matured????? As they say, "Get better, or get bitter", you have to work on yourself. As beautiful a Mary was outside, over the years the bitterness got worse, there was no acceptance of the fact that the Supremes as we knew them in their original form were done. For me i was cringing watching her in every single interview rehashing the same bitter story. So undignified and ungracious. What's worse is, you actually realise, yes i love you, were best friend's, and i love you so much, as long as you don't do better than me. We can be best friends as long as you suit next to me and don't move. That's a painful way to live, as was evident. Celebrate the person and their success. You're also free to continue, and make a successful solo career., but too much energy was consumed with anger about the past. I've never heard a negative interview from our about Cindy Birdsong. Blessed love. ❤❤❤
Mary Wilson and Diana Ross were very close, even after Diana left the group. They seemed to love each other still, but what broke their friendship down?
Writing a book and exposing the secrets of your so-called "friend", would ruin any friendship. Some secrets should be taken to the grave, no matter how nasty Diana was in those days. Remember, Diana loaned Mary money when she needed it, so why turn around and stab her in the back?
@@MauriceRivers415 I totally agreed with u..and i think really friends will sit down and lets talk if anything was wrong...not wait until 25 years later to right a book for money...that bullschit!!
@@MauriceRivers415 I told you people Mary was messy, she actually tried to ruined Diana, but GOD is good, what he gives, no one can take.FOREVER DIANA!!!!!!!!!!!
I love most of Mary’s performances. I hate. HATE. Her sped up supreme medleys. They’re so messy. It’s like she i trying to prove how much more exciting she is than Diana but it’s just a mess. I like the way she performed keep me hanging on at the Apollo and I love her “you dance my heart around the stars.” But her late seventies/early eighties sped up medleys are just bad.
Agreed, but you have to remember, she fooled herself into thinking she was a pop singer, for YEARS. That's why her career after the "Red Hot" album never really took off, until she switched to jazz & R&B in the 90's. That's where she should've been all along, but she was too busy thinking she could have Diana's career.
Red Hot was never #1. In fact it only reached #106 on Billboard's national chart and sold only 6,000 copies. I bought one of those 6,000 copies. It may have reached #1 on some of the local disco charts which isn't exactly saying much.
@@punkanellylovejoy702 You stop putting all your energy complimenting the wrong Supremes. Compliment the right Supreme, Miss Ross. I have read many of your negative comments about Miss Ross and I am quite upset about them. You need to delete all of your negative comments about the queen Miss Ross Immediately, if not sooner. I am ANGRY!!!🤕🤧😥😢😡😡👎👎
