When she's singing slow R&B and jazz, she's in her element of music. Pop is Diana's element. Had Mary reinvented herself in the 70's with this type of singing, she probably would have been a more successful contemporary of Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn, Ethel Waters, etc.
What a great performance! Such a pity that Mary's solo recording career never took off, she had a great voice. So sad to hear of her passing today. Thanks for posting this. Mary with Donny & Marie is iconic!
Watching this interview makes me so sad, now that Mary is gone and we never had the opportunity to go see these divas perform one last We have and will always love you Rest In Peace Mary ❤️
Love Ms. Wilson's "smokey" alto rendition of this beautiful classic. I love her pursuit of "life-long" learning......way to go! Always loved Donny & Marie....even as a kid. Great brother-sister talent.
I had the pleasure to meet Mary briefly on the tour in England that she makes reference to in this interview. She was so amazing and down to earth. A true legend.
I met Mary myself in Texas in 1984; at 40 years old she was stunningly gorgeous, and, as you said, down to earth, friendly and chatty. She autographed my "More Hits By The Supremes" album and gave me a little peck on the cheek. Wonderful lady!
It's so great to hear Mary Wilson sing lead. Shame that she didn't get to do so when the Supremes were having all their hits. Donny & Marie sound great as the backup "Supremes" too! The three of them should have gone out on the road -- they sounded great together. May she rest in peace.
I think Mary lived in a dream world, concerning her relationship with Diana after the "Dreamgirl" book. When you expose all those things about a person, it alters the relationship. Diana was a real piece of work when she was in the group, bar none, but some things are better left unsaid.
I always thought the same thing. At some point she made a choice that she would have to live with. I also wonder how relevant the supremes would have been without Diana’s solo success.
Mary was so beautiful and she had a beautiful soulful voice it's too bad Diana treated her badly I love me some Diana Ross but she was wrong how she treated Mary
Close is more than some of us 😂 she should have went into jazz and Flo could have done some disco or Philly International or Stax she would have done well
Sorry Mary but that cold look Donnie gave you says "He doesn't believe you" ! You made it about "Money", whereas Diana made it about the "Fans". Donnie knows you just contradicted yourself from his question. His look says loud and clear that "You're a flip flopping liar girlfriend" 🤔
