This was the third blow to Lefty's program that created the need for a complete rebuild of the team. In 1975, top signee Moses Malone left after just a week of school. Also after the 1974 season, promising freshman, Wilson Washington had transferred out to Old Dominion. And now a third Maryland big man, Chris Patton had died. Added to the normal attrition of the program, and Lefty was faced with a bare cupboard. Lefty's rebuild of the program began with Albert King and it would take a few years to recover from the three above listed losses.
