Who in the Lagos government approved these buildings in the first place????

It is high time Mr Tokunbo and Lagos state Government start investigating those who are culpable in this act over the years, whether retired or still at service. They should be brought to book. Not all these decisions thing without considering others. Conscience first.

Its a pity and am still wondering how we got here... The government no long think and consider her citizens anymore... In the first why will government gives approvals on illegal structures abd properties,collect taxes and at the end demolish or remove the property is that not wickedness Governance of bitterness

But the question to be asked is: who approved the building of the estate? If I buy a piece of land, I may or may not know that the area is not build able. If I get the permission to build and the building is later demolished, one will expect the persons and offices that approved the building should be brought to court. The summary of it all is lack of government presence or/and inaction.

I like this man. We can't say we want development and break the law as we like. Now someone is putting right what has gone wrong.They are protesting! People should learn to do the right thing.

Where was Lagos State Govt when these structures were being built from the foundation to completion? Why not stop the builders before commiting enormous resources into putting up the buildings?

All is really frustrating. No government, no law, no assurance, no life in Lagos. All demolition every year to acquire lands. People given two hours to pack from house built by them without compensation. Nobody cares where they will stay, eat and live. Hopelessness is business in Nigeria.

I feel these people don't think before they talk. You sold people land cause yes all land belongs to the government. The government is to be blamed for allowing such houses to be built. They pay their dues and all for years but you come and break down their homes. Then about the Ikoyi bridge lol... A lot of people there are security men, cleaners etc. Someone I know entered one chance twice in one month because they have to clean the office before everyone arrives. So what are you doing for these people. Rent is ridiculous even on the mainland but thry sit down in their govt offices pay people minimum wages then ruin people's lives. May God help us

All these wicked scenerio is about vendetta because APC lost in Lagos State. Why have they not done such since years back. The questions is, IS THERE ANY ALTERNATIVE FOR THOSE RENDERED HOMELESS....why are the citizens suffering for our leader mistakes

The government is complicit as well as the owners of the buildings. The government ought to have stopped the building even at the foundation level, apprehend the owners of the buildings, and prosecute them for trespassing on government land or erecting unapproved structures. Such actions would have served as a deterrent to others. For the government to have allowed the structures to be built to this level before being pulled down is wickedness and insensitivity. To those erecting structures without government approval, this is what happens in the long run.

So where are they go to go? Is the government making other provisions of where, the occupants will stay or live in furtherance? Talking about houses demolished.

Many buildings in Lagos are illegally built- some crazy people even buikd on canals and under high tension cables....so some of these demolitons are necessary to clean up slum areas. But hope govt compensate owners or alternative accommodation made for them so they dont become homeless. And govt can convert some of these reclaimed lands for parks and green spaces. We need more trees, greenery in Lagos cos of global warming

It is not illegal when they get approval from the same government. The state government should also take responsibility and take responsibilities they have been collecting land taxes and other taxes.

Why is nobody talking about the need to provide alternative to these home owners so that they can have a place to live.

In a civilized Country and society, the Cities land and title Department of the government have clear plan and survey of developement and future developement and encumbrances clearly published and visible to the public. Here in the USA there are Title Companies that check for these encumbrabces and problems before you buy land or houses. This is a standard procedure in the U.S . Nigerian Goverment should make Title search and Land permitts a very important process for land or property acquisition. This demolision business is bad publicity for Lagos and Nigeria Real Estate market. The world is watching Nigeria.

Mr Wahab you did not answer the remedies part of the question as well as who approved and has been collecting taxes from them. You need to be humane in implementing the law. We are allowing Venezuelans and other displaced citizens & refugees temporarily here in our cities while trying to figure out a long term solution. That is how it should be. What is the plan to house and help these people back on their feet? They are human.

Who approved the building plans, perhaps, some of the builldings have CoOs, who signed them ? which agency inspect the building and gave approval for fit..? when all these questions are answered, and those responsible for approvals on behallf of Lagos state Govt. are brought to book... then, there would be justice for the victims...

I consider someone who can pay N250k to stay under the bridge as someone who can afford 3 square meals. Some of them are even getting married and raising kids under that bridge.
