It was a 4.5 litre V-8. The engine was also used in the Tipo 65 birdcage and Quattropore sedan. A de-stroked version at 4.2 litres was also used in the ElDorado Tipo 58 in the "Race of Two Worlds" against Indy cars at Monza. It's also used in racing boats.
That engine sounds terrible… Loose, sloppy, worn out. I want to emphasize that I am not being a troll, argumentative, or a contrarian…it just doesn’t sound like a well-tuned, Italian, exotic, high-performance engine…at all. Please refer to the ‘Victory By Design’ Maserati episode for a proper engine note.
