What gets me is that the guy’s mother never found out that the little girl was her granddaughter. And the fact that all the stuff she wanted her son to do for her, the little girl wanted to do for her. This show was really good. Twist and turns everywhere.

I found this show to be incredibly sad. Mo-mi never lived a happy life and only wanted to be loved. Instead everyone failed her except her best friend that she found so many years later. At least the daughter will potentially break the chains of generational trauma and violence and can live happily. I watched this over the weekend and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. It’s really haunting in a way. 😢

She shouldn’t have gone to jail when she was taken advantage by two disgusting pig but realistically speaking that’s how harsh reality is for women, they’ll be blamed for even defending themselves, life was cruel to her, and she ended up dying regardless but at least her sacrificed made her daughter realized that love is stronger than anything

The fact that all of this could have been prevented if she had checked the guy's pulse in the hotel room making sure he was actually dead and called the ambulance.

She was innocent the entire time. But of course moms think their criminal sons are Angels. And that darn religious mother is crazy

The fact they were able to tell such a sprawling story, with such twists and turns in 7 episodes was amazing. A story like this would take another show about 12-15 episodes. Great story telling and one of the best K dramas I've watched. This show comfortably is in the same tier as Skycastle and The Glory, as my favourite K dramas, but is one of the best shows I've watched regardless of genre.

Crazy how bullying and generational trauma can do to a person. What a spiral of a show. She deserved better😢

At first I thought it was frustrating that Kyung-Ja never found out that Mi-mo was her actual granddaughter. But; with some time and reflection, I can appreciate this outcome more. Kyung-Ja is truly a sociopath. She doesn’t care about anyone but herself. She proves this when she said “Oh, as long as it isn’t my son” when she found out that the other dead body was misidentified. She only cared because she doesn’t see others as people and only saw her son as an extension of herself. If she had knew Mi-mo was her granddaughter; she would be granted a relationship that she does not deserve. She would continue being her evil-self whilst raising Mi-mo; and we all saw how badly it went when she raised Oh Jung Nam. Mi-mo’s struggle was believing that no one cared about her. But with the ending that was provided; she learned that all the people whom she thought didn’t care about her actually loved her truly; and the person who she thought cared about her (Kyung-Ja) was ready to kill her. So I believe this is the best outcome for Mi-mo as well. She can move on peacefully and live a normal life.

i wanted Mo- Mi soooo bad to tell the crazy mother that her son had sa and impregnated her and tha'ts why she killed him. She needed to know that he was far from innocent! Maybe then she wouldn't feel the need to get revenge anymore. I felt so bad for Mo-Mi and really wanted her to finally live free with her daughter. Terribly disappointed by the ending but loved the show!

From the first episode, the way she went after the guy that touched her butt on the bus, showed she was a tough person and would fight back.

All she had to do was tell her that was her grandchild, that would’ve stopped her dead in her tracks

My favorite part was seeing Nana is jail and going after the gang over and over

I feel Kyung Ja didn’t have to go full vengeance on her dead son. He was such a sleaze ball to Mo Mi and honestly not that great of a son to begin with. A head scratcher really.

I stand with Momi & Mimo. All she wanted was a chance to raises her daughter differently. And in a way she showed her that by sacrificing herself for mimo to be free and happy. Momi accomplished that in the end. Broke the generational curse and made up with her mother And protected her daughter that was spectacular ending.

the 3 actresses did their role justice my fave are the first momi and nana after the surgery they are like complete different story, one who Is weak and the other one who let go of everything to live, that's why her episode is black and white. she lost everything and i love that setup

Really good series, but I feel that there're lots of wierd gaps: 1) when the obsessed guy offers to get rid of the first guy himself, why does he suddenly have a knife and a jumpsuit out of nowhere. 2) why does Mo-Mi suddenly decide to give up her daughter and turn herself in, when earlier she's portrayed as wanting to be a good parent for her daughter 3) AND WHY TF DOES THE GRANDMA NEVER GET TO KNOW THE TRUTH, THAT'S SUCH A MISSED OPPORTUNITY FOR A POWERFUL SCENE (I was really looking forward to seeing the realisation and the regret in her eyes as she notices that her granddaughter was giving her what she most desired all along when all she did was destroy her, right before Mask girl kills her or smth like that)

i did not expect the show to be like this. ep 2 really weirded me out but after that it was a roller coaster. the ending made me sob because i didnt expect the show to go to that route at all like holy hell it was a spiral

What I don’t get is that she fights off so many people in this movie, but she’s powerless against an old women

the show was indeed insane. sure at the end it drags like any novella and korean drama but the closing cements itself well. you will feel uncomfortable and cringe at the awkward situations as well as cry. considering its in the black comedy genre space for some reason. perhaps due its way portraying societies biggest standards/issues. i dont believe in violence being genetic etc but society treats it that way. damn if the series accomplishes making you feel those things and leave your brain buzzing thinking about it the next day. then its a freaking good show. honestly it felt akin to the quality of chan woo park film specially a peculiar scene where both chun ae and mo mi share a red thread of fate that arc was amazing but felt short. that was really gut punching. performance was phenomenal too. specially yeoms character and the one who played the daughter. i dont know perhaps im wrong but sometimes it felt rushed. or it all went all too quickly. maybe i was too hooked. maybe its the netflix case where not all shows make it out and they did their best with their time or it would have dragged too much. really worth checking out either way.

In addition to the other comments why does everyone think mask girl (pre surgery) is ugly? I don’t think so. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Maybe just me who was really frustrated that they never gave a killing blow ever to the old lady. Like really? Mimo did not learn from the first time when the granny survived the car. Then not when her own grandma was dying. Then after all that she did not finish in the basement. Like how many times are you going to do a half assed job? Also how many times can the grandma sustain head trauma and be fine? At this point I would not be surprised if the bullet did not kill her.

granny sent the article to Mo-mi that says violence is genetically passed down... it's true. She's a good stalker herself for tracking her down via the internet just like her son

I thought this kdrama was going to be philosophically deeper like similar Dr jekyll and Mr hyde kind of with Momi and Mask Girl. However, realizing about the imppresive plot twits and the point of view of the characters to develop the story... No doubts was a masterpiece😁

Basically everyone who is disappointed here didn't understand that this wouldn't be a show that aims to satisfy the viewers in the end. Yes obviously we want justice and peace in the end, but considering the writing and style of this series I think that we should already be glad that it ended on a positive scene without everyone being dead. Personally, as someone who never watches anything with thriller, murder etc, I already knew that I should not expect a satisfactory story. So that's not why I came for, I got what I wanted from this show which was to see something extraordinary and spectacular. And it was more amazing that I thought.

I’m impressed with the plastic surgeons. Turned a person like mask girl looking like a beautiful kpop idol, similar to someone from After School or Orange Caramel. Just amazing

Are we not gonna talk about the scene where the girls kill the boyfriend with the telephone cord? That scene literally could win an award.

i liked this show. but at the same time, i found it so sad.

I loved this tv show. It was such a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I’ve been recommending it to people to watch. Beautifully shot and great characters. Had me completely gripped from start to finish.

Mask girl is the one series I found very original and lesson to be learnt . There is no age limit to achieve your goal. Showing Some love wont be loss to anybody. Gathering great companion can help you from something as dangerous as death. Treat your children properly , if you intend to have and raise one. Do not trust any rando.. just because of sweet talk and pretty smile ( personally I hate freaks on the inside, smiles outside) This series essentially is bits and pieces of everybody's life around the world.

This series makes me miss perfect blue and satoshi kon even more

One thing that was never mentioned to the Oh Nah's mother is that is her grandchild. I kept waiting for it and NEVER spoken.

Itss really hard for women to have justice in those sexist countries. it's shown in that scene where momi went to the police to report some guy assaulting her, and instead of investigate, the police literally told her to let it go. and in that scene where momi says she'll report that it was self-defense against the guy who tried to rape her, and oh-nam said that would not be a good idea because he knew the police would not believe her.

There's no way Oh Nam is the father as way more then 9 months passed after Mo MI got plastic surgery and had a dancing career and then revealed she was pregnant only when she and A-reum went on the run from Kyung Ja.

Extremely loved it!!! The story, the intrigue, the anticipation, the gut wrenching powerful emotional excellent performances and delivery from every character was satisfying that I cannot deal with the fact that I have to wait for something good like this drama to come along later!

If she had face surgery as soon as she graduated university and before even working, she wouldn’t have gone through so much misery. But I guess we wouldn’t have a movie if she did that.

I thought that fat guy geniunely loves her but then his intention was same as the 1st guy which is so sick!😒His evil mom scared hell out of me throughout the whole series!

Throughout the entire series I would think about how different this would’ve been if she didn’t go to the motel with that man.

This was odd but still very well done. Kept me intrigued to the very end!

Its actually still crazy seeing how some men write about this series and how women do. Like many men are mad at the series, thinking its men hate (i saw comments like this), being mad that topics like women getting seualized or not believed in rpe/SA cases sometimes are discussed or not even recognizing how kim mo mi was treated and assulted.. while many women here can even relate to some parts of the show.

Wow. Just wow. I expected this show to be different, and it was so sad to watch. So many levels of messed up. And the crazy thing was, the little girl kept calling the ttebokki lady grandma, and it was her grandma. Just wow.

The mother: What did my sweet boy ever did to you?! Mo mi: *he r***d me, I told him to let go of me but he didn't. Your son is a father* I was hoping for this talk to appear in any of the eps. This talk alone could have slapped some sense to the mother to know the crime his son did

I watched for one actress, and was expecting some cute feel good tv show… and left traumatized.

It made me want to scream seeing people talking about "pretty privilege" with this series. That's exactly the OPPOSITE of what it's about. Becoming pretty does not save Chunae from financial and physical abuse. It does not save Momi from stalking and sexual abuse. It does not get Momi justice, she is sent to prison for killing two abusive men, and her case is sensationalised. Just like in real life. Female criminals are simply so RARE that it's just so much more exciting, isn't it. Look, women can be just as monstrous as men! Nevermind that all the men she killed were monsters. Her daughter realises how badly her mother has been misunderstood at the end. Her mother isn't a monster and she's not the child of a monster, just a horribly abused and deeply misunderstood woman.

7:56 The way Mask Girl protects her daughter makes me believe her story is also about the change she made to end the generational trauma. Mo-mi's mother would talk her down, but Mo-mi herself sacrificed her own life for her child.

What’s crazy is that the one mom went to such lengths for revenge, trying to ruin and then even end Mi Mo’s life, never realizing that she was not only her real granddaughter, the only living piece of her son she had left, but also everything she had ever wanted and been jealous of in the other mothers’ children.

Tbh I hated the ending. I wasn't expecting a happy fairy tale ending but I at least expected Mo-mi to be alive at the end. Like the ending would've been more of a realistic ending if Mo-mi was still alive but had to go back to prison and the daughter would visit her every now and then, telling her daughter about her life story. What also irritated me is that Mi-mo said her bff's parents only have temporary custody of her like what??? So where is she gonna go after that?? The poor girl has no family AT ALL. Her mom was in prison and is now dead, her dad was a creepy stalker and a r*p*st and is dead, the only one who was taking care of her was her grandma but oh wait...she's also DEAD. Also, the evil mother saw a literal dead body in her sons house and thought nothing of it?? There was multiple proof of him being a creepy person and she was delusional till the end. I guess the apple doesn't fall from the tree. The whole ending was just unnecessarily cruel and unrealistic in my opinion.

I don’t understand why her defense was so poor. Life in prison? Both guys had online evidence of stalker behavior towards her. She had no motive to kill. She’s literally an online persona meeting a fan for the first time. The evidence is great that it was self-defense. And for the second guy, he has even more evidence online of being obsessive towards her. Didn’t he say at one point that he would kill himself if she got with her boss? They found the remains of the first guy in the second guys apartment, so they know that he was the one who took care of the body. It’s not hard to believe that he used this as leverage to try to force himself on Mo-mi. As for the third guy, the former idol, I’m not sure if they actually tied that to her, but she didn’t even know him. i’m not sure if that car was hers. Or if they found the body of her friend and how that fits into this. Obviously, it’s part of the plot that she goes to jail but I feel very unsatisfied with how that played out.

K drama is K drama.. all about Family, love, revenge, lover, fight, betray, gangster, all in each episodes. For me first 2 episodes are the most interesting about the main character mask girl. If movie is represented present day, all ugly girls really don't care much all people who hate them. You can see how many ugly people on tiktok to show off their video. The world totally changed, ugly people ruled the world and successful easily and famous like super star.

there have been several good korean shows on netflix and before this i didnt even bother with korean shows. the glory is another good one.

In google, the actress who played the og momi wasnt on the top of the cast list.... didnt even have a picture. Even ik reality momi wasnt the star.

I feel like all the plot points were executed so well and it made sense for all those plot twists to happen. there was something new and crazy in every episode.

Honestly, this is all that grandma’s fault, Kyung-ja. not only for being her sociopathic self, but that she raised her son that way. He is the one who told Momi to leave and ended up killing the guy. Then ended up r*ping her and getting himself killed. We can also extend blame to Momi's grandmother. She was so harsh to her daughter, and didn’t try to foster any self-worth or self-esteem in her that she ended up seeking validation from these online would be stalkers (two of which, ruined Momi's life).

Honestly such a disappointment. . Where was all the love and character development that happened? They ended up killing each other without even trying to speak heart to heart . The grandma had the satisfaction of dying and still thinking she was in right in killing the daughter aka granddaughter.. so much I could go on for but definitely the writers missed some parts In the end ..Kim Mo-Mi was not even recognized for her bravery as a mother in the end idk such a miss .

As a Christian, I also noticed the many references to Christianity. Also, Kyang-ju was the worst example of a believer. For me, this is one of the best Kdramas, quite underrated too. Our true beauty is within, but most people don't realise it. Seeking for revenge will only lead to sin, SIN leads to death. Mi-Mo paid for her mother's sins, Kyang-Ju paid for her son's sins.

This series had so much serious topic : the seualization of women, even non socially beautiful women. The victim blaming. Women not standing up for each other *also for male validation*. The beauty ideal/standards, surgery, starting to objectify yourself , how men rate woman (categorizing into fckable or worthless), the importance of sisterhood and so many other things omg.
