Hi everyone, I have been working on a short film at university. I am finished with it and I have published a teaser trailer.
I aim to tell a story about an autistic person masking their traits and then suddenly introducing them to an empty space where they don’t have to mask.
Masking behaviours in autistic people is often done to appear ‘neurotypical’ and to fit in with societal norms. They often do this to avoid showing Autism spectrum traits in fear of being judged, shamed, embarrassed and feared by other neurotypical people. Masking can also be quite exhausting and can lead to burn out and high levels of stress.

This is such an important project. This trailer brought tears to my eyes. My sister has had to use shields and masks most of her life. She has made immense leaps and bounds and overcame so much! She is about to get her drivers license for the first time and wants to get her ears pierced! My mom tells me she is a fantastic driver. She started playing in person D&D, with friends who love and accept her for who she is. I think your film could truly help people have more empathy and understanding!!! I can not wait to see the entire piece!!!!

Certainly produced with a good intention. Not watchable for me as an autistic person. This flickering is unbearable.

That's what I was thinking too, I want to watch it so bad bc this seems like it had a lot of thought and effort put into it, but with my sensory issues and chronic migraines, idk if I could handle the flashing effect either!

Have you watched Arcane? There are flickering doodle animations in that show, and it inspired my drawing animations for this film.
