I wish they had updated the Cerberus bases in ME1 with their logo. Would add bit more character to them instead of being just the generic side quest buildings.
That’s definitely the truth of the matter! I do understand and I do agree with Kaidan or Ashley reactions since we do know horrific actions from ME 1 by Cerberus. Except in few cases , Shepard couldn’t speak out against Cerberus throughout the game like I had like to be able be fully vocal on my Shepard’s opinion about Cerberus outside of Normandy. I have expected such reactions that I had received first time that I had played ME 2. I had played my Shepards against Cerberus the terrorist group by sending all of information found to Alliance and making sure that Cerberus didn’t get personal benefits from my Shepard’s decisions out of Shepard’s Alliance loyalty in ME 2. Shepard might owe their life to Cerberus and out of necessary working with Cerberus to save people’s lives yet Shepard is determinedly loyal Alliance military service person in their heart and soul despite Alliance failing them when Shepard had truly needed their support the most! If Alliance had worked with Shepard, then Shepard would not felt necessarily work with Cerberus to save lives in the first place. Alliance and Counselors had failed Shepard and mankind by turning their own backs on real dangerous situation first. Then , Counselors had still not learned from their two previous dangerous mistakes with Shepard in ME 3! It is like butting your head against stone wall with Counselors throughout the ME series! They’re definitely too darn heck prejudiced and self righteous jerks against humans except for Turian Counselor with his secret meeting with Shepard away from the other Counselors in ME 3.
I like how after completing the geth incursion missions and giving the data to Tali for the migrant fleet, when you meet her in the beginning of ME2 you can trigger a unique dialogue option "remember when i brought you that data tali, did it help you complete your pilgrimage?"
“Spammed by Hackett” lol! It’s so true, he’s always calling. He should really requisition some more special ops forces or something, he seems to have a lot of problems to deal with.
@@apoc35 Facts, end of the day he knows he can depend on Shepard. if you play the ShadowBroker DLC you find out hes been looking out for you behind the scenes. ever since seeing that, i have no problem helping him where i can. What Shepard does for him and humanity doesnt go unnoticed by him
In all likelihood, he actually does have multiple teams going out to take on multiple other missions similar to, but perhaps not quite as high-profile or high-risk. Don't forget that Shepard is an N7, which is the highest rank in the Systems Alliance spec-ops group, and these soldiers end up taking on the most dangerous missions.
Shepard is arguably the Alliance's number one marine, and a lot of the side quests Hackett gives you are... politically compromising or not 100% legal.
@@ValosarX I loved ME1 much more this time around, especially thanks to the changes in graphics and combat, but I still got really tired of doing all the side quests. I still plowed through every single one though, but I couldn’t help thinking how much I’d rather be playing ME2 lol
As someone who 100% back in the day and on my way to platnium on the PS, it is forgivable if a newcomer just wants to experience the story. Doing side quests are in some ways essential, but not the be all and end all. It is still a 14 year old game with serious repetition. I say if it gets tedious, just focus on completing the main story. Mass Effect is a great title, but nothing too special.
Yea I’ve only recently tried the series as a whole with the legendary edition and kinda breezed through ME 1 but now I think I’m gonna go back and start over and really dig for some of the side content I missed.
@@gianni50725 Not a huge impact, but tons of them get referenced in later games. Usually you either get emails from people you helped or you hear a Galactic News report with the outcome. In some cases you meet people again (if they survived) and they'll react to what you did. There is also the reporter who will remember if you punched her in the previous two games and react accordingly.
@@TheAntsh yeah theres like 30/40 side missions in the game, yet only 3 side mission settings (underground base, above ground base, derelict ship). its hard to pick a favourite ME game, but ME1 has a special place in my mind even given the tedious side missions. ive run the trilogy about 6 times now, and every time i still do every side mission and explore every planet (console command slomo comes in handy for the planets, speed up the game 5x to traverse the planets in seconds).
True, if you do her quest, she will appear in ME3, if you also save Kelly in ME2. You can also save Fist if you don't have Wrex in the party when you confront him. He will be in the bar of 2 and 3, if you save him.
I really love UNC: Negotiation I like how the game forces you to kill the pirate leader and then you will find out that you were used by Hackett and Aliance, because they needed gun for hire.
People who never played Renegade have never been given that mission so I'd bet quite a few people don't even know about it. The best outcome imo is not killing him and Hackett calling Shepard with a "Oh fuck what are we gonna do now" tone of voice while trying to keep up the act that they wanted Shepard to just talk with him lmao
Aw, you missed my favourite where Shepard helps an Alliance squad hold of waves of Rachni, before destroying the nest. It has a real Starshiptroopers feel to it and fans of the movie will probably like it. Do you want to know more? I actually like the Moonbase and Geth missions. You get a lot of xp and the fights are made easier and quicker by the fact that there is no Mako xp penalty in the LE. The Cerberus missions are quite frustrating as they take place on two of the most mountainous planets you can land on. It can be quite torturous trying to get to these resource points.
One of my favorite favorite side missions on the Citadel is the one where you have to prevent Talitha's suicide by knocking her out with a sleep pill or injection. Which can only be unlocked with a colonist background. Love it better with Femshep comforting Talitha once she starts passing out.
I love ME 1‘s variety of side quests. Just finished the game yesterday again and I did literally all assignments. Even the tedious collection quests, which were a pain to complete. But overall most of the missions are quite interesting in terms of the lore/story. Btw love your vids man
“Variety” every side quest boils down too go to this planet ride the mako to one of 2 building types and then kill or sometimes talk down the people inside. And people gave Dragon age 2 soo much crap for reusing locations this is way worse
@@minlow7831 Yeah, gameplay wise ME1 side quests are one of the worst I've seen, but the story/lore behind them is awesome, especially when put in the perspective of the entire trilogy
@@kolosmenus Yes, definetly. But I think the N7 missions in ME 2 are even worse. As much as I like the loyalty missions and characters, the planet scanning and those strange missions that haven‘t got a real story at all are not really enjoyable in my opinion.
One of the best shit talking lines of the Citadel DLC was when Shepard was fighting the clone and Shep screams, "Conrad Verner makes a better me than you do!" That made me so happy.
@@rachellejanssen2655 I know that my Shep has always said it all my play throughs on the citadel DLC, I think it all depends if you manage to keep Conrad Verner going and is alive come ME3. In the first game, you have to go full renegade and make sure that you pull your pistol on Conrad, and he screams at you “hero’s don’t do that I wish I never met you!” Also make sure that you were able to pull Jenna out of Cora’s den before the raid to Fist and save Tali and get the data that proves that Saren is a traitor. This will bring him back in ME2 on Illium and in a sequence of events there, you help him out and it looks you are done with him. Then in ME3, I forget the mission, but Conrad will come in to talk to you only for him to step in as a person targeting Shepard with a gun and tries to shoot, Conrad will jump in front of you and take a bullet for you. If you did not save Jenna as well, I think that he will die, but because of all this, she will show how C-Sec taught her how to discharge a gun and make it shut down thus saving Conrad as well as he saves you and he will live and then they will hit it off and his relationship comes full circle. Great story arch. And then whenever the Citadel DLC during the final fight with the clone he says all that.
@@EphPhaThaINC Is it possible to not save Jenna? I did The Fist raid first, then saved her. Also, I'm pretty sure that Conrad has a wife, he mentions her in ME1.
@@kolosmenus yeah, but I always make sure that I save Jenna in all my play throughs prior to my raid on Cora’s Den, and I think that is a key to making sure that Conrad lives when he dives in front of Shep. And also it is implied...heavily implied, that Conrad was always lying that he even had or wife or either that or she had left him prior to ME2 because of his obsession with Shepard. So it is actually said that by ME3 that he is single and thus why he and Jenna do in fact get together should he survive the attack.
I hope all new players seriously get in more depth with the side missions and understanding the characters rather than bashing them immediately and making articles online..there's so much character development and the thing people don't understand is that your words and choices EFFECT how everyone becomes throughout the trilogy.
This was something I didn't realize when first playing the first game is how fast you could play the story without interacting with the characters, first time I was constantly interacting but in legendary, I realized you should really play the missions in a certain order and take your time to get to know the character's as well in order to get the most out of the experience, otherwise you are just speed running😂
This is amusing, as when I did the ME1 playthrough I did nothing but side missions and planet scanning/landing. Was over level 20 before actually doing the main missions lol
With maleshep conrad's a fanboy, but with femshep I can't help but think what his wife must think about him being so obsessed about another woman. And yes I know that it's revealed in later games he doesn't have a wife, but we didn't know that originally.
I played ME:LE for the first time and didn’t know Conrad has a quest chain in ME2 and ME3. I was doing a full Renegade run and being the biggest dick in the universe, so I pointed a gun at Conrad and told him that he’s a coward. Welp, probably won’t see him in ME2 and 3 now.
How is 'I remember me' not on this list. I know its more of an interaction than a side mission, kind of like Conrad, but man does it hit you in the feels.
UNC: Espionage Probe is good as some of the really good Renegade one liners come from this mission. Thankfully UNC: Geth Incursion is improved in LE since with the removal of the EXP nerf in the Mako you don't have to exit the Mako to fight on foot for max experience. I remember me is still one of my favourite though in LE the new lighting kind of lessons the impact of it since it's much brighter than it was in the original.
I would definitely add to this list. The ****** side quest in the Styx Theta cluster that you can only do after Noveria is completed. And then the Exogeni Scientists quest in the Maroon Sea cluster that unlocks after you finish Feros.
I would have liked it more if the results of the scans gave more infos and more foreshadowing (but still subtle) regarding them being a modefied race that were indoctrinated and even maybe being the first race ever to have survived the first cycle of destruction. I would have loved them playing a bigger role since they are so fascinating.
Special note on Admiral Kahoku - before you do his quest, consider getting the Armistan Banes quest from Dr. Chloe Michel. You need Kahoku to finish it, and if you progress too far in Kahoku's quest he won't be on the Citadel anymore leaving you unable to complete Chloe's either. Also - could you do a video on all the side quests that have an impact on ME2 and ME3? Even some of the smaller ones like scanning the keepers result in an e-mail, while a couple of the bigger ones (new dialogue or returning characters) include Helena Blake and Nassana Dantius.
Gonna be blown away by some decisions if you don’t spoil yourself. But thats why you can play through it again...and again... and again 😂 Just like Fallout!
I be honest, the side quests in mass effect 1 was a pain in the ass to do, not just those ridiculous collection quests but those missions that you drive the fucking Mako across empty plants and clearing fucking same looking buildings over and over again, the only good side quests are the ones in the planet hub and the citadel, but most other side quests is painful to play but the main quests made the pain worth it
@@prich0382 yeah i know that, right-click to mark on it help mark the direction on the minimap so you don't get lost, but still the repetitiveness is what kills the fun not the finding direction, I mean if I couldn't find the direction I wouldn't beat the game 20 times with 100% dumbass
To new mass effect players, when he says side quests pertaining to Shepard’s childhood background appear half way through the game, that’s not necessarily true unless they’ve changed it in legendary. Those side quests unlocked, originally, the second time you visit the citadel.
About the Espionage probe mission, don't forget that in the original game, the main "antagonist" of the quest was a human whereas they changed him to a Turian in Legendary Edition
Not to be hard on mass effect but replaying it really makes me appreciate the polish later games quests got. 70% of a lot of side quests in me1 are search for the planet, land on some rock, drive up a mountain range to the stronghold, and kill enemies in one of 3 environments with the weakest combat system of the trilogy. You get some good story at the end, tho unfortunately some are just texts box describing somthing cool.
Yeah, that seems to be the trade off for having multiple open world planets to explore. Whereas the next two games all have very unique, handcrafted content. That used to bother me back in the day... I was kinda disappointed with this when ME2 first released. I love all three games equally now.
I must be the only person that likes ME1 the most lol. I recently played the whole trilogy for the first time and ME1 had the strongest impression on me. But then again that’s probably because that was my introduction to the trilogy. Andremoda was the first “ME” I’ve played, As for andromeda, I kind of enjoyed it but overall it was really lacking in the story aspect, it could’ve been a WHOLE lot stronger and made some conversations less relax in terms of tone. This probably had something to do with my enjoyment as my expectations were quite low. But if I had to rank each I would go with ME2 > ME1 > ME3 > Andromeda.
@@Noschool100 Realistically ME2 would be first as it has more substance and overall more enjoyable (to me). Although ME1 was a great introduction to the series for me. I didn’t say I like ME1 the most though, I said it had the best impression on me. The game itself was very interesting as it is essentially a parallel to the Star Trek series and the planets and bases gave off a unique atmosphere. The plot of the first game really enticed me to continue the story hence why I said “strongest impression” I like the political nature and gritty that the characters have along with the plot line of becoming a spectre.
@@user-jt6rh8xy6n "I didn’t say I like ME1 the most though," -Mr. Shelby "I must be the only person that likes ME1 the most lol." -also Mr. Shelby I mean this isn't that big of a deal but idk what else to say other than just literally quoting what you said.
Now that you mention it, how complicated Conrad's quest is in ME3 - have you ever done a video covering all the possible outcomes of conrad's storyline across each game? Sounds like good content to me.
In original trilogy it needs save editing, because ME1 sets this mission as done by both paragon and renegade. And actually there is difference in ME2, but because of this bug you cannot check paragon version without editing your save
@@_r4x4 Wasn't this bug actually made canon in ME3? With conrad apologizing about unfairly lashing out at you if you actually chose the paragon option in ME1?
@@Michoss9 I don't know how it is in ME3, but in ME2 if when you fixed it, there are pretty big differences in his mission. It could be possible, they found the way to solve it in ME3 and decided to gave extra easter egg, but I do not remember it.
@@thorntonwager6750 The save file in ME1 was bugged. It flagged both the paragon and renegade choice for Conrad Verner at the same time. This means that it defaults to renegade if imported to ME2. Instead of fixing the bug in ME1 they made him apologize in ME3 for lying about you shoving a gun in his face, saying he was “confused”.
This is a good list. Whenever I replay Mass Effect I just go through the galaxy system by system and check every single planet for side quests. I also like how new systems open up in-between story missions. I always talk to absolutely everyone on the hub worlds. This is a game I can't help but 100 percent. Most people probably don't usually see this one but I find the Lord Darius quest to be funny.
I did the Dr. Saleon one before even doing Feros or Noveria so everytime I would go talk to Garrus he would only talk about how he wants to thank me for helping him and didn’t have any remarks towards any of the missions or any other dialogue after that. Pissed me off since he’s my favorite squad mate
Having not played any of ME1 because I'm a console only player, these guides have been so hype at building the suspense for when I get my hands on legendary edition
Really enjoying Legendary edition ME1 with these guides. I think it looks really good now, and the sharper gameplay (especially on the Mako) has brought back the fun.
Funnily enough, I completed a couple of the mentioned missions in this video, though I've yet to get the Armstrong Cluster for the Geth mission. Hell, the other day I came across Wrex's family armor by accident long before I got his mission.
The Geth incursion quest is still somewhat tedious, but that's one of the few side quests that actually has unique combat set pieces. Even if they take place in the same bunker, the scenery is a little bit different. In the grand scheme of things most of those side quests don't matter, but even for some of the smallest ones you get emails later on where people will thank you and update you on their lives. Some quests are also referenced in news reports in ME2
Quick side note for the consort: You only get the trinket if you also completed the part for the Elcor diplomat. I accidentally went to the Consort first, before dropping off the quest for the Elcor and I didn't get the trinket.
Too bad Werner's quest transfer into ME2 is STILL bugged in the LE and he still claims that Shep shoved a gun in his face, even if you went with the Paragon options.
I'm pretty sure they fixed zero bugs across all the games. I still have the bug in ME1 where your character is locked in a specific direction and unlocks at random, Mako floating but stuck
Yup they didn't remaster the bugs at all. I know those game by heart and all the bugs are still here. Of course it would'nt be funny if they didn't add some new ones.
I just did this earlier today, I am a renegon and specifically didn't shove a gun in his face, just to see if he still acted like I did. I was disappointed as you can imagine.
I won’t spoil it, but it does get addressed in ME3 I wasn’t happy about that though, it’s a remaster & they left a blatant plot hole in due to laziness.
Hey Dan. First, I would like to say how much I love your vids. I especially am interested in your play-through, I always play solely paragon, so seeing renegade is awesome. I have an idea for a new video. There are "stories" throughout the series, some of which you can make decisions in (example Mass Effect 1 on the presidium a couple is arguing about treatment for a baby) or there's a guy trying to get a refund for an item (you can only listen to the "story", no decisions to be made), and they have payoff in the end, although it's usually just to see what happened. I know a lot of them can be missed as it takes a fair bit of finding them and then hanging around and listening, and remembering to seek them out multiple times per game or finding them in each subsequent game, so I think a lot of them could be missed. They just add such a human element to the series, and show the care the storytellers and devs put into the series, others might find them interesting. Or, I'm just a huge, nitpicky nerd, lol.
I cant agree with the list duo to the lack of my favorite side mission. "I Remember Me" is specific for colonist background but its a damn emotional ride and can be a beautiful set piece
I just finished Me1 for the first time today, and it was a blast. I kept getting side tracked with all the side quests, though I did leave a decent amount not finished.
Also, for the espionnage prob quest it seems that Bioware changed the antagonist (forgot his name) from human to turian which they said what he was supposed to be
You can just find wrexs armor without going through the dialog. Same with the asari diplomat mission and dealing with the sister before getting the mission. Saves a lot of time.
One of the things I love is that a lot of them have different ways you can actually learn about them. Overhearing the news on an elevator, hacking into a computer, just stumbling across it on planet... it's great Also why I've only done the main quest to find Liara lol, the side quests are too addicting. Is ME2 gonna be like this too?
Far less, but there will still be a lot. The thing that does carry over is listening to tons of unimportant NPCs and paying attention as you explore ;)
I might be the only that thinks this, but the side quest where you have to retrieve the data of a shot down probe by searching the space monkey colonies was a funny little one to do even if it was just interacting via a bunch of button presses
3:54 Don't forget that she only gives you the trinket if you complete "Citadel: Xeltan's Complaint" after talking to Septimus and before talking with her again. You need to resolve the problem with the Elcor in the Embassies. If you don't, she won't give you the trinket.
Among the side quests on the Citadel, I would like to note an easy one, but with funny consequences in 2 and 3: a quest with a couple arguing about an unborn child. Not only does the quest have no right or wrong solution, the couple meet later in other games, still arguing about the fate of the already born child.
For asari diplomacy, I landed on a planet, killed some pirates, and found something that sent me back to the Citadel to tell her her sister was now dead. Grey Griffin is awesome in the role, btw.
Great video! First playthrough here, and loving it. (Hey, better late than never, right?) Doing as many side missions as I can between main missions, and have gotten a good many of the ones in this video competed. But there are quite a few I’d missed, so now I have some work to do! I’d better go....
You should mention that in connection with Verner, you should collect 10 asaro writings, do the Rita's sister mission and buy the Elkoss Combine license.
If you really want a sense of tied-in, complete the fetch quest Asari Matriarch's writings, Prothean discs and get the license from Elkoss Combine (I think, I just get them all). Conrad, you sneaky SOB ;)
Damn I missed the Garrus one on my Renegade femShep playthrough who is all loyalty missions done about to hit Omega Relay in ME2 before doing Arrival / Shadow Broker after suicide mission
Bro i thought i knew how to play Mass Effect omg Ive barely finished anything compared the dialogue and cool conversations you get to take place Thanks for sharing and the Great content later!!!!
Hey Big Dan, speaking of quests in ME1...I did every single quest I found, scanned every single asteroid and opened every single box (to get those 139ish XP), but I finished ME1 as Level 29 (Legendary scale), which translated to Level 57 when I imported it in ME2. But I had read in LE we could reach Level 30 in a single playthrough. Were you able to? BTW, I really enjoy and appreciate the videos, keep up the great work, mate!
One quest that really added to Ashley Williams character is Our Own Worst Enemy, where Shepard is approached by a dude from the Terra Nova party (basically human supremacy racists). Ashley was with Shepard and she openly called the guy out, calling him a racist and bashing him for talking about Shanxi when he had no moral right to. I mean, these days, in the spirit of our time, many people accuse Williams of racism, but that quest and her reaction shows that's just absolutely not true. It's one of the last side quests (and a really short one) that you can complete before heading to Ilos.
2:15 soooooo...you're not going to go into details? okay, to those reading this, before you help the admiral help the doctor with her blackmail problems (you have to talk to her and ask her questions then leave for a while before you trigger it) make sure after the resolution of it you bring up Banes (one of your squad mates brings up talking to Anderson which you should do next for the suggestion to talk to the admiral) then look for his missing squad which got killed by a thresher maw. return to Kohoku to inform him of the incident and bring up Banes if you didn't do so before. (this is the last time you can do this) after hunting around the galaxy map he'll contact you before his untimely murder giving you targets involving Cerberus
Two minor nit-picks about human biotic potential: 1) all human biotics are the result of non-fatal exposure to element zero in the womb - the biotic implant only helps coordinate nerve impulses to allow biotic abilities; and 2) the headaches that Kaidan suffers from are the result of him having an L2 implant - not indicative of all human biotics.
Spoilers. Theres a mission that unlocks after you the player gets 100% paragon and 80% renegade points. I know because as I was scouting every.single.planet. I found a "base" with an entrance you couldn't interact with. After looking on the wiki admiral Hackett gives you a job to basically go in and kill the man inside. Sadly I forget the planet name but it exists and is quite possibly the most missed quest because you'd need two playthroughs to get the paragon/renegade points to get. Unless you maybe cheat at noveria on the bug and instantly fill paragon points by asking the one turian to testify over and over helping Parasini.
1) If you can, meet Samesh Bhatia with Ashley. Samesh' wife died under Ashley's command on Eden Prime. 2)I'd also add the "UNC: Listening post Alpha" quest to this list. When entering the Erebus system in Styx Theta cluster, you get a distress call. You need to defend a listening post against two waves of rachni and then you go to "clean" their nest in a mine. 3) Why did you release it after I started the Ilos mission. I can't use my new knowledge from this video anymore :-(
I have a suggestion for a video. I had just came back from Legion's loyalty mission and went to talk to him and he was dancing there was even music playing in the background. I like your video's.
I didn't realize there was anything else to do with the consort mission after she gave me the item. I always figured it was a mod or something. Now I gotta start a new character and actually finish that quest for the 1st time lol.
People already finished 1-3. ...... And here I'm still strolling around with my mako on empty planets looking for weird prothean orbs before even going to feros.
Yeah like the geth one as it's brought up in me 2 and it brings you to multiple planets Also the missing marine's mission if you are playing it early in the game it's a massive difficulty spike cause of the threasure maw
