She then proceeds to ramble on about how your rudeness must be her subconscious projecting blame onto herself because of how careless she was to get trapped there lol
Disagree! Rejecting Wrex = one of the most magnificent strategic deceptions ever, resulting in Krogan support and a Salarian stealthy dreadnought fleet
@@darthimperius2865 you don’t get the stealthy dreadnought fleet unless you sabotage the cure. Saving Valero gets you a different fleet, while saving his replacement dalatrass gets you an STG task force.
Killed by a couple recon drones. I think a green civilian would fare better, at least take out one of them, or maybe hide behind a fucking rock. But no, goes and gets pew-pewed to death, instantly. Like a boss, Jenkins, like a boss.
“Well, I hope you know what you’re doing, Shepard. With no crew and no squad mates, the only person you can count on is yourself.” (Long pause) “I don’t want him on my ship.”
That bit had me laughing so hard 😂 I've never done renagade, so was unexpected. Now I just want to do renegade for the funny lines 😂 The fun they probably had recording those lines lol
I hate him, to be honest. Total asshole line, not even in a funny "so edgy" way. It's just pure anger, guy is not mentally fit to form a team to save the galaxy.
A big gameplay reason for a lot of this is that they want to make sure Shepard always has two companions in combat. The ONLY time this isn't true (outside of, potentially, Pinnacle Station? I've never played that DLC.) is after Jenkins dies, but before meeting Ashley. Either Garrus *or* Wrex are mandatory - one is skippable, but you cannot skip both, as you require ONE of them to lead you to Fist. Then Tali is mandatory as well - this gives you two non-human squadmates. Virmire is the center point of all this - you lose access to both Ashley *and* Kaidan for a large portion of Virmire, thus in order to maintain two non-Shepard Squadmates, they need to make sure you leave the Citadel with at least two new Squadmates, as it is possible to visit Virmire before Therum. Thus, the two non-human squadmates you picked up (Tali and either Garrus or Wrex) become your ONLY available Squadmates if you skipped one of the two on the Citadel and haven't grabbed Liara yet. The two squadmate rule is *also* why Wrex will automatically back down under the same circumstances, without the need for any charm, intimidate, or even his sidequest. If you don't have Garrus or Liara, Wrex dying in his standoff would leave you with only Tali. The fact that this is the case may have been something of a last-minute "oh crap" realization due to the... somewhat awkward way it goes if you get this outcome. The way it's worded and even voiced, it almost sounds like Wrex is realizing mid-threat that he's contractually obligated to maintain the game mechanic of having two squadmates and grumpily and sassily backs down.
Yooo I never thought of that, but I would not understand why someone would not recruit every available companion. I suppose the option to turn them down gives the game more depth but at the end of the day, it is cooler to have more personalities on the ship.
This mechanic is also true in the Mass Effect 2 suicide mission. If you take Miranda with you during the shield escort scene, and the biotic in play is not a loyal Samara or Jack, then only the opposing crew member can die. This is because Miranda is required for the speech right after. In testing I did at one point, it's also impossible to have just 1 crew member survive the mission. I did a run where I wanted only Samara to survive the Suicide Mission, and two things happen. Either both my squadmates after the Reaper falls dies (And Shepard falls of course), or 1 person survives solo (Usually Zaeed or Jacob) in the standoff at the door. Then both meet up in the Normandy to catch you at the end. I assume it's the same reason, you can't continue the game without two squadmates. This can also be circumvented if Zaeed survives without being loyal, you can then kill him in his loyalty mission after the suicide one. Doing this actually lets you play any remaining side quests with just your 1 squadmate, so the game is designed to work with 1 or even 0 squadmates.
@@Terror_Official Well during the opening scene when you wake up you first start off alone, then Jacob joins you and then the bald dude (forgot his name lol). Also, I think there is a side quest at one space station that has a corrupted VI and you have to do it solo due to safety reasons? But I can't remember for sure.
@@fenrisvermundr2516 that sounds appealing but I personally don't like either. Space racist or overly eager and annoying soldier that somehow got as far as he did. I'd take space racist cuz at least she somewhat learns to overcome her bigotry kinda.
@@xxarcangelxx143 Jenkins didn't get very far. Being a Corporal means he has been serving for two years at least. Which would actually explain his childish attitude since up until being assigned to the Normandy he hasn't seen anything that would harden him. And if he survived Eden Prime he would start that process. Honestly with this premise, he has a lot of potential for development in the right hands.
@@fenrisvermundr2516 you know what, your right. Some good writing and character development and Jenkins could have been a good character. Now he needs some facial reconstruction surgery
@@roswynn5484 Overcompensation from vocal fans of a protagonist who isn't the majority pick like BroShep is. She'd have to be as good as Meer for you to claim she's better. Which funnily, she isn't.
@@roswynn5484 Mark Meer is actually pretty good at the renegade dialogue. His calm and even delivery might seem off on other occasions but perfect when voicing a homicidal sociopath.
I almost never used Garrus...he died constantly and he whines like a child. After I had all of the characters, I used Liara and Tali exclusively. I wish I had known I could have left his ass on the Citadel.
@@KravMagoo He does die easily in my opinion, but I just love him too much. Idc Wrex can compensate for Garrus, I always took them with me. I love those two with all my heart ❤️
@@martuuk8964 Maybe, but I'll never find out. Just played through the ORIGINAL ME again (not this overhyped Legendary crap) and I totally bricked her once she got on my ship. I even contemplated shooting her in the leg on Eden Prime so the husks could catch her and then I wouldn't even have to talk to her.
@@dr.science_0177 If by higher graphics you mean LE looks like My Little Pony and Teletubbies had a love child and slathered it in olive oil, sure. Everything shines all the time, including skin, and the color saturation is dialed up to 1000.
@@daliothegamer Ah, I see. What he mentions in the video and what I mentioned in my comment are two different scenarios. In the video, he's talking about what happens if you haven't recruited Wrex when you go to Vermire. What I was talking about is if you do have Wrex but don't have Garrus or Liara. The game is set up so that you must have two party members at all times. Without Garrus and Liara, you have a total of 4 squadmates you can use (Ashley, Kaidan, Tali, and Wrex). Throughout the Virmire mission, both Ashley and Kaidan will leave your party. Now, while that's not permanent, that will leave a time when you can only have Tali and Wrex. Since you have to have 2 squadmates with you at all times, you can't kill Wrex and keep going through the game. Because of that, Wrex will survive the standoff no matter what you do.
Yeah that's not how Quarian names work. Young Quarians are known by the ship they were born on, which is where "nar Rayya" comes from. Adult Quarians are known by the ship they're serving on, which is why Tali was "vas Neema" in the beginning of ME2 and "vas Normandy" from her loyalty mission onwards.
Nearly spit up my drink when I heard "Vas Nar Rayya". I'm like um... she's on pilgrimage, so there's no 'Vas' yet. Enjoyed listening to the rest of it though
Shepard had the right idea. Ashley is regular infantry, not SF and SF usually hate working with regular infantry. Tali isn’t in the military, much less SF trained, so again, Shepard has a good reason to not want her along. Garrus however, displayed that he had special combat training in Doctor Michele;s lab, so I’ve never rejected him. As for Wrex, initial impression is that he is a muscle for hire for the Shadow Broker. This means that either he could be bought off by buying off the Broker, or he himself could be bought off. That’s why I rejected him on the Citadel in my ruthless renegade play through. Turned out well for me, since I could trick Wreav, get the salarian stealthy dreadnought fleet and save Mordin!
I considered attempting to reject her in a new game plus since Garis had the ability to decrypt/open everything which was the only reason I used Tali, but I took her anyway. Good to see what happens if you do try rejecting her though.
"Wrex is an optional squadmate, even though he's not optional in our hearts" true words! I can't imagine going ME1 without Wrex. Best powerhouse of a character.
Seeing mass effect 1 after so many years it makes me realise how much i actually miss them sitting down and debriefing in the ship. I totally forgot they do that.
There will be a lot of vids coming from many people again as soon as the remaster of the entire trilogy is released. Too bad they are changing too much in the remaster to make it worth me buying it again when I can still play the original trilogy on my xbox 360.
Udina knows that a Shepard without Tali will anger too many fans. That why he forces you to take her. What a clever politician (except when he is not)!
Optional squad mates?? Your Uncle Wrex is optional?? Your BBF Garrus is optional?? Your little sister Tali is optional?? What pit of darkness did you crawl out of, big man?? 😤 **update** I don't know what a "BBF" is or why I wrote it... but I ain't changing it 🤣👍🏾
@@VoidDragon82 I never really understood people liking Liara. She doesn't have a personality at all in ME1 and in ME2 and 3 she's kind of a boring stereotype.
@@zithro_zero Wait, so in the book/comic adaptations or whatever the writers decided to have him go with Liara? Goddamn, they keep ruining the franchise every time they touch it... "No, the reapers aren't out of control AI, we wouldn't make it such an obvious thing." LEVIATHAN DLC.
That's important in an RPG. There's so many possible reasons your Shepard could be reluctant or happy to take on Ashley based on their background. Like lone survivor, war hero etc.
I don't have a problem with shepherd making a sound and logical in character decision, I just wish the dialogue wheel wouldn't show up if every choice is the same. Like just let them talk I don't need be in charge of every single thing shepherd says.
I keep telling myself I’ll do a playthrough with as few companions and as many deaths as possible. Then I keep not doing it because I’m not a psychopath
I FEEL YOU!! I don't think I can get myself to shoot Mordin and not cure the genophage. I tried once, and couldn't get that renegade interrupt to happen.
i haven't even seriously considered to try it :/ ...thanks to youtube and some maniacs on it i can watch the consequences of wrong choices without trying to experience them by myself ;)
usually evil options in games are atleast some what fun or satisfying (like having a giant power trip or taking revenge on character you didn't like) this is not that fun.
About forced party members: When ME1 came out in Russia, it had very questionable translation. Dialog options during Ashley recruitment in Russian (re-translated back to english) looked like: - Хорошая идея = Good idea - Хорошо = Good - Хорошо, пошли с нами = Good, come with us That scene was turned into a meme "Лишний ствол" (Extra gunpower, as Kaidan said before). It was used a lot by haters to show, that ME1 is not an open-world RPG, as they hoped, but a railroad, with zero choice (a bit an exaggeration). The meme was quite popular, and even the game itself was often called "Лишний ствол" instead of the normal name.
Because that's important in an RPG. There's so many possible reasons your Shepard could be reluctant or happy to take on Ashley based on their background. Like lone survivor, war hero etc.
I could never leave Garrus behind... Dunno, it was sort of a connection to the guy the the first time I saw him and rejecting him just wasn't an option after that. And in ME2, it was hunt to find him, and realizing he was Archangel was the greatest joy ever.

As much as I love Mass Effect, I can't imagine playing them so many times to find all the unique situations that could develop. Especially if that means skipping companions.
that's where youtube comes in handy ;) ...i myself once tried to just run around citadel riding elevators while switching teammates in-between just to hear those sometimes hilarious dialogs they do by themselves... still sure haven't hear them all - they do tend to develop depending on what missions you've completed...
I still think we should've had a Batarian squad mate like Garrus did on Omega. That would've been great, especially doing a mission on their homeworld in 3. A real missed opportunity there.
I actually got that hallucination dialogue with liara because i didn't want to check all the 4 systems to look for her, and instead did the other missions, never thought it had another dialogue for that part
On my first playthrough I actually played most of the first game without Liara in my team. I just thought I had missed her at the Citadel (since most of the other team members were recruited there)
Or until you've gotten fucking exiled for the shit your father did which you had no idea about, but a cool commander from another species who didn't even care about quarians at all before meeting you just welcomes you to be a part of his team and his ship crew. Oh and to save the galaxy.
@@cjnf11 the "vas" part is reserved for the ship the Quarian is currently serving on. Serving in official capacity on board of the Normandy makes her vas Normandy, no exile or any other political stunt can take that away.
We all know every liara dialogue, we've all played Feros, Noveria, Virmire, Therum, in every possible order, the hallucination convo is hilarious but Normandy conversation makes most sense since only after you recruit her does the cipher become fully installed in your head
The Liara section made me laugh my ass off.. I have played THOUSANDS of hours in Mass Effect. It blows my mind there's stuff I never even knew about STILL.
