At the end of the Rannoch mission, commander Shepard can choose to let the Geth be destroyed by the Quarians. This is the video of what happens if you take that path.
If you want to see this same part of the game, but with an honorable outcome, check out this video • Mass Effect 3 - Killin... . And if you want to see what happens if you let the Quarins die, look here • Mass Effect 3 - Lettin... .
Note: ratings have been disabled for this video. Since it has such a sad outcome (Legion is an awesome character), it would only deserve thumbs down anyway. Comments are enabled though, so rage all you want.
From Mass Effect 3, developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts.

@@BumboLooksThe Geth slaughtered Quarians en masse to the point of near extinction. That means they killed babies, children, the elderly, the disabled, all non combatants. They only realized they were in the wrong once the Quarians fled off world. That's not even counting the Geth failing to contact citadel species in 300 years and only letting heretics pass through and kill council races without actually telling anyone the heretics don't represent true Geth. If the Geth were truly good, they wouldn't drive their creators to near extinction, and on top of that wouldn't have willingly sided with the Reapers two times.

It's interesting if you compare the Legion V.I. with Legion's dialog to letting the Geth die. Legion seems to understand the decision but wish for his people to not go extinct, while the Legion V.I. doesn't understand your decision and merely views it as another reason not to trust organics.
@Togekab00m

Nar'ok Fireshout tbh, not-Legion's response makes just as much sense, and Legion's lack of hostile dialogue is just a testament to how much they admire and trust Shepard (and even Tali, if u did ur shit right in ME2) - the fact they both try to kill Shepard shows that barring this difference their thought processes are very similar - like there's nothing TO understand, rly, if the geth die it's because Shepard valued the quarians/the largest fleet in the galaxy over a race of their self-liberated former slaves who have been subjected to attempted genocide by the former multiple times at this point, which is fucked up no matter how u look at it

@zorak950
@zorak950 3 года назад
This was probably the most impactful scene in the trilogy for me. Legion and Tali both survive ME2 and are both loyal. Then Shepard has to make a choice, and Legion stands to lose everything. You see Legion torn between its friend/idol and the future of its race, and it makes its choice. You even see Tali has a moment of hesitation: she doesn't want to, but she does what has to be done to protect HER people and HER friend. It's great classical tragedy- nobody there wants any of this to happen, but none of them can stop it. The writing, animation, and performances are all pretty much nailed. Which makes it doubly disappointing that the "choose geth" version of this scene is let down substantially by the weak writing of Tali's attempt to stop her fleet from committing suicide.

@@georgevourtzoumis2967 Not this generation of Quarians, no. They have their ancestors to thank for this mess, but they didn't start the war, they only grew up with being at war and were taught who the enemy is. So it's natural that the fear and hatred against the Geth is a core aspect of their society and the war was way too hot for anyone to let their guard down, even if it looks like the more logical choice. The thing is, no one of that Quarian generation even knew/believed that the Geth were ready for peace. It was only thanks to Legion that the Geth's voice could be heard at all and even more convenient that his allies were Shepard and Tali. Peace would have never been a logical option, for Quarians, Geth or anyone else, without Legion. Or without Shepard, respectively.

this dialogue is in desperate need of revision. shepard could’ve easily fixed it such as the speech check implies… the fleet was engaged but in the cutscene it really didn’t seem like they couldn’t call it off. the issue is to make the speech check make sense they need to keep it the way it is, but to make the decision to pick one over the other doesn’t make sense unless they’re already firing and in a complete space battle already… which they aren’t. the game wants it’s cake and to eat it too but there simply isn’t a scenario where both of these outcomes happening make sense without the other one also not being able to happen… if that makes sense

@@spacejesus6581 " the quarians saw the Geth were alive, and decided that instead of making them slave labor as they had always been, to commit genocide, they defended themselves" First off, only the admirals decide that. The civilians were forced in to the war. Second, they decided that not because they waned to but because they had to. If you paid attention in ME1 and ME2 the citadel would never let the quarians settle on any planet, and even if hey did the quarians would take generations o adapt. On op of that they needed a planet to "shelter their noncombatants" during the reaper war. Third, you are forgetting hat no one except Tali and Shepard's crew even knows that the geth are open to the possibility of peace. The only contact anyone has had with the geth for the past 300 years is them trying to kill everyone. It was the geth that decided to join the reapers and attempt to wipe out all life in the galaxy. Remember that? The heretics joined the reapers and the true geth allowed them to it and never warned anyone. That is so much worse than anything the quarians have ever done. And finally, the geth had no reason to even be on Rannoch. Legion even says that it provides no benefit to them at all, AND they know that the quarians want it above all else. So let me get this straight, the geth's only interaction with the entire galaxy (besides ONE platform which was specifically seeking out Shepard) has been to kill all organics, including the heretics attacking the citadel and trying to wipe out all life, then the geth continued to occupy the one thing they knew the quarians needed, and never once tried to broker peace with them. How could the quarians NOT wage war with them? Every organic race in the galaxy was at war with the geth and that's because of the moronic decisions the geth kept making. "The quarians have done nothing but focus on a war with the Geth and suck up materials across the Galaxy for their fleet." What are you even talking about? The quarians NEEDED to wage war with the geth because they were dying and were the most vulnerable to the reapers of any race. This was explained in ME2 hat they needed Rannoch back. It was the geth that never even TRIED to explain they peace was a possibility. hey just kept killing any organics that entered heir space, and let the only interaction with organics outside the Veil be from the heretics. What are the races of the galaxy supposed to think of the geth's motives if the only interaction with them has been hostile? Also, of course the quarians have been using resources to keep themselves alive..... so has every race. Do you think the humans were living off of nothing in the galaxy? What a pointless comment. " The Geth have been in solitude making scientific leaps forward and hoping peace was an option, when it wasn't they once again defend themselves" They have also been attacking anyone that enters their space, shutting off all communication attempts from the citadel, allowing the heretics to attempt to wipe out all life in the galaxy, never attempting to achieve peace, etc. Seriously, did you even play ME1? All of this is explained in it. "when it wasn't they once again defend themselves" This was entirely brought upon themselves. They became hostile isolationists, refusing to communicate with anyone and actively denying any communication attempts, refusing to leave the one place in the universe they knew the quarians needed, going against their own beliefs and joining the reapers twice. Btw, do you remember that that's the exact mentality that Saren had? Join the reapers to avoid destruction. Oh but it's fine when the geth do it, right? You realize that makes the geth not only hypocrites but a massive liability. What is to stop them from joining the reapers again and turning on the galaxy the instant the war starts to go in the reapers' favor?

@@Quole1234 amazing, everything you just said, was wrong. I was talking about the Morning war, when the Quarians first found out the Geth were conscious, they decided genocide was better than attempting peace. It wasn't the Admirals that decided that, it was the most controversial decision the Quarians ever made, a lot chose Genocide but a lot also chose peace, it was Quarians and Geth vs Quarians. After the genocidal Quarians left the Persius Veil, their fleet began sucking up materials across the Galaxy faster than any planet, you claim it was pointless but in every codex related to the Quarian fleet it says it. Imagine a apartment building right? Now imagine every single person in that building always being in a vehicle that is never turned off, always sucking fuel and gas faster than any building. Now multiply that by millions. The true Geth have never killed organics unless out of defense, all the people who died in the persius veil were killed by the heretics, not the true Geth. All the communication attempts? It's simple, the Geth believed it was safer to not reply than risk another war. It's funny you call upon the differences between the true Geth and Heretics, yet cannot see the difference yourself Also, Quarians did have a choice, they could have attempted to broker peace in the Morning War, they could have attempted to broker peace with the Geth at any point after the Morning War. Lastly, they could have settled on another planet, it's explained in ME2 that their immune systems would take significantly longer to adapt than on Rannoch, iirc it was a century versus a decade. Well if they had settled immediately after the Morning War, then they would have never had to become wanderers in the first place, they were unwilling to look at all options out of pride for their homeworld. Morning War: Quarians attempted genocide, Geth defended themselves Persius incidents: Heretics killed people, not the true Geth Reaper War: Geth defended themselves, and after seeing the Genocide that was about to happen came to the same conclusion as Saren, submission (to the Reapers) was preferable to extinction Again, every single thing you just said was wrong.

@@spacejesus6581 Oh this will be fun. I love it when people don't even bother reading anything I type. But let's try again: "I was talking about the Morning war, when the Quarians first found out the Geth were conscious, they decided genocide was better than attempting peace" First off, under Citadel orders they HAD to shut off the Geth. They had no choice in that. Second, the Geth were not believed to be truly sentient, they were thought to be merely on the verge of it. Tali explains this thoroughly in ME1, that the Quarians vastly underestimated how advanced the Geth had become. This was not originally supposed to be a war. I was literally just shutting off a malfunctioning electronic. Next time pay attention to exposition in the game. "It wasn't the Admirals that decided that, it was the most controversial decision the Quarians ever made, a lot chose Genocide but a lot also chose peace, it was Quarians and Geth vs Quarians." I was referring to Mass Effect 3 first off (which WAS the admirals' fault), and second it really was not a controversial decision as the Geth were no thought o be truly sentient at that point. Again, it was just shutting off a device. And they DIDN'T have a choice as letting the Geth continue to advance and become AIs was strictly forbidden by the Citadel. What you are likely referring to is the ensuing war that followed the Geth defending themselves. The WAR was quarians and geth vs quarians, but the choice of shutting them down was not. "After the genocidal Quarians left the Persius Veil," Lol 'genocidal'. They were not genocidal. You are missing a crucial part that the Geth were not believed to be sentient at the time the quarians were going to shut them down. After the geh defended themselves and started the war, the quarians had no choice but to retaliate. I would also add that if the geth were truly open to peace a this point then they would not have massacred billions of children (oh, forgot that part didn't you) to sop the quarian military. "their fleet began sucking up materials across the Galaxy faster than any planet, you claim it was pointless but in every codex related to the Quarian fleet it says it. I" You mean using materials to keep themselves ALIVE? They had a centuries old, broken down fleet (another that's explained well in the firs game) and they needed recourses to keep it moving. They were kicked off the citadel, kicked off at least several planets that they tried to settle on and were treated as second class citizens by the rest of the galaxy. This was an issue created and perpetuated by the Citadel for being racists lol. Instead of even helping the Quarians (and the millions of civilians), they did everything they could to hinder the quarians attempts a surviving in the galaxy. " Imagine a apartment building right? Now imagine every single person in that building always being in a vehicle that is never turned off, always sucking fuel and gas faster than any building. Now multiply that by millions." Okay, now imagine those people being forced to do exactly that BY THE PEOPLE THAT OWN THE APARTMENT. AND imagine that that they NEED that vehicle on at all times to survive. What an asinine metaphor. "The true Geth have never killed organics unless out of defense" First off, we don't know that. We know that the geth that joined the reapers in ME1 were the heretics, but we don't know how he true geth reacted to anyone entering their space. And considering the true geth make up the cast majority of all geth it's likely that they were not just bystanders to that. Not to mention it's odd that when the citadel tried to communicate which them the true geth either conveniently never go to the transmissions before the heretics, OR they were the ones that ignored them. That's the first problem. The second problem is that not only did the true geth do nothing to stop the heretics from oh idk... TRYING TO WIPE OUT ALL LIFE IN THE GALAXY, but they ALLOWED them to do it. How you can excuse that is beyond me. Were it not for Shepard there would literally be no citadel races left for the next games to happen, and much of that was caused INTENTIONALLY by the true geth whether they were the ones fighting or not. Imagine if you have a friend that you don't agree with, and find out that he is about to go on a mass killing spree and you can stop them effortlessly. What do you do? Tell them to go for it, and then act like it's not your problem. Oh but the true geth are innocent here, right? Did you even pay attention to Legion in ME2? "all the people who died in the persius veil were killed by the heretics, not the true Geth." Again, we don't know that for a fact. All we know is that it was the heretics that joined the reapers in ME1. The true geth were clearly not opposed o killing organics for defence, so what is o stop them from killing those hat enter their space as a precaution? And again even if it was the heretics (who again, were a tiny minority of the geth) who always happened to make first contact with any organics, then why wouldn't the true geth do something to prevent it, or at least try to warn organics at all that there is a difference between them and the heretics? They never even tried, and actively ignored all communication attempts. "It's simple, the Geth believed it was safer to not reply than risk another war." that is legit one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. You have a bunch of factions that think you are hostile. They want peace and are trying to convey that to you. What do you do? Ignore them so that they continue thinking you are hostile. The only thing that would do is reaffirm the galaxy's suspicions that you are hostile isolationists that want to kill organics. How does that make any sense whatsoever? Why not JUST TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE OPEN TO THE POSSIBILITY OF PEACE? Or that there are 2 different factions of geth? What they did is one of the worst and dumbest things they could have possible done. What do mean 'risk another war'? If anything that would DIFFUSE a potential war. The irony here is that them doing that is part of what caused the quarians to attack them in ME3. No one outside of Legion and a couple other people in ME2 even know that there are 2 different geth factions. If the geth would have been open to communications, and actually tried to warn the galaxy about the heretics, then the the conflict in ME3 would have been avoided and there would have been peace centuries ago. "It's funny you call upon the differences between the true Geth and Heretics, yet cannot see the difference yourself" What's really funny is that you are excusing all the asinine decisions the true geth have made and continue to make, and everything they are guilty of. The true geth are equally to blame for everything the heretics have done.

The Geth only attacked in defense because no creature no matter how it may seem would want its entire species to be killed. The Quarians are no different from their ancestors when the fighting started and Rannoch may be their home planet but they could have solved this peacefully especially with the reaper gone but no they chose to keep causing conflict. This is the exact reason why the Reapers are harvesting and indoctrinating all sources of advance life so that this conflict won't happen in the future.

Those Quarians(or at least many of them) didn't know or believe that the Geth would stop fighting if they did the same and just didn't want to let their guard down. Legion was the first real proof for peace being an option at all and it's a tough pill to swollow for the Quarians to just let the Geth go when they are so close to winning anyway. Especially for Han'Gerrel, who lost his best friend(Rael'Zorah) to the Geth. Their eagerness to defeat the Geth is totally understandle. Unfortunate but understandable. @@ty738 even before the upload the geth seemed pretty intelligent and questionably feeling as evidenced by Legion and the fact the geth were willing and able to assist Shepard and the galaxy as they not only opposed the reapers but were always open to peace between them and organics if the opportunity/possibility opened up to them, as they left Rannoch untouched after the Morning War, and were awaiting their creator's return. The only reason they fell under reaper influence was because of the Quarian's attack on the Dyson Sphere, killing many, many geth which reduced their intelligence to the point of only being able to think of self preservation at all costs. So Imo its still genocide of an intelligent, capable race even without the reaper code upgrades.

@Blu_Jayye
@Blu_Jayye 7 лет назад
+Lance Leander Cembrano This definition of "life" is taken straight from the Oxford English Dictionary. "The condition that distinguishes animals, plants, and other organisms from inanimate matter, characterized by continuous metabolic activity and the capacity for functions such as growth, development, reproduction, adaptation to the environment, and response to stimulation; (also) the activities and phenomena by which this is manifested." The key part of this is the requirement for life to be able to grow, adapt, develop and respond to stimuli, as well as the fact that "life" is distinguished from "inanimate" matter. There is nothing in this definition that restricts life from being applied to a "robot" as you would put it. Further, any organism that can question its existence, and I'm quoting the Geth here, "does this unit have a soul", is not only something that is alive, but also fully intelligent, able to be self aware and have an understanding of its own existence. So with all due respect, Lance, you are wrong when you say robots aren't "alive" when referring to beings like the Geth. If you were referring to your phone (which is a type of AI by the way), then yes you are correct. THAT robot is not alive.

i find all the rhetoric ppl argue in favour of the quarians with like "they deserve their homeworld back" and shit really fucked up, bc they seem to totally ignore the fact that Rannoch is also the geth homeworld, it's where they were created, where the life their platforms' anatomy was based on evolved, and where the majority of the geth population resides in orbital servers - and they were FAR better for the planet than the quarians, who irradiated the surface with thousands of nuclear weapons and destroyed many of their own populations sympathetic to the geth or not during the Morning War - the geth cared for its ecosystems and lived in equilibrium with the life there. Additionally, if peace is achieved, it is the GETH who open peaceful negotiations with the quarians, while even as the quarian fleet is being torn apart if Shepard helps Legion, they refuse to retreat to save their people because they want the total genocide of the geth - their freed slaves - THAT badly. i have no sympathy for them - and also i love how every Mass Effect fan seems to pretend it's just 'asshole leaders' who want the geth dead, when the ONE quarian (other than Tali if you persuade her in ME2) you see who actually explicitly doesn't want every geth dead (even the quarians who you see opposing the war only do so because of the risk to the Fleet) says himself that among the entire quarian population of 17,000,000, his viewpoint is in the minority. So, no sympathy for a genocidal people, basically. Also, one last thing - the geth were not responsible for the deaths of all quarians on Rannoch during the Morning War, as tonnes of ppl seem to claim - while they undoubtedly played a part by necessity, the only thing that COULD have killed every quarian would have been an ecological catastrophe - which is what happened when the quarians self-inflicted a nuclear winter. If you don't believe me, talk to Legion on Tuchanka with Tali present in ME2, and they'll tell you how Rannoch was similar after the war.

***** But why aren't geth capable of understanding that the quarians just want to come back home? Unlike geth, Quarians had emotional and biological needs for this planet. For an entire synthetic population that can travel at the speed of light by connecting to a computer, they sure don't seem willing to go far from 'home'. They just took over the planet and for what? To sit there plugged into the network all these years? They could have done that literally in the middle of nowhere. What is their purpose? They can make all the technological advancements and intel gathering they want, but for what reason? What do they do with it? EDI seems to at least try to understand the organics, blend in, find purpose in making those she cares about happy. The geth however, remain isolated from just about anywhere else. Sorry, it will take more than that for me to let millions of people die.

JosayJalapeno The geth only control territories the quarians colonised before the Morning War, which is barely anything - they have barely any territory TO move to, and limiting your area of control in a galaxy where EVERY single civilisation wants to see you dead is a ridiculous suggestion - and NO species hates the geth more than the quarians. Leaving the planet to the quarians as a position for them to attack the remaining geth (don't give me the bullshit that they wouldn't follow if the geth left, they DESPISE them with every fibre of their being) is an utterly suicidal suggestion - that's WHY they took every quarian military outpost during the Morning war. And please remember, NOTHING is stopping the quarians returning to Rannoch peacefully - their whole phrase 'by the homeworld i hope to see some day' is such bullshit for this reason - if they weren't such genocidal fuckbags, they could get their homeworld back any time they liked. But they value the destruction of their former slaves far more than the resettlement of Rannoch, as is evidenced by the decisions of the Conclave (which represents the civilian population democratically) throughout their entire known history - the Conclave only agreed to return to Rannoch once they had the weapons, tech and intel available to kill all the geth. Additionally, the quarians DO NOT have a 'biological need' (don't even get me started on 'emotional need', as if that settler colonial rhetoric (it's the same language used to justify the founding of israel and the theft of Palestinian land, for example) is worth more than an entire people's lives - several BILLION people, as opposed to the 17,000,000 people represented in the Migrant Fleet, remember, which makes your comment about millions of people dying all the more absurd - and no, i will NOT entertain any arguments based around synthetics 'not really being people'/'not being alive' because it's silly, not relevant, and also contradicted multiple times in the trilogy) for Rannoch, they just don't want to go through the effort of spending several generations acclimatising to a new colony... oh yeah, and they wanna kill all the geth. Trust me, if the geth WERE mostly based in some other system, even if not a former quarian colony, the quarians would find an excuse to attack it EVEN IF they possessed Rannoch. It'd basically be like the usa invading Vietnam instead of supporting the genocide of and theft of land from Palestine by israel/the First World, which is what the war for Rannoch is like, both routes ultimately supporting similar goals (tho the us failed in Vietnam lol) of assuring the dominance of oppressors and exploiters instead of liberated oppressed peoples. Finally, as evidenced by the geth's desire for a peaceful return of the quarians and the fact they deeply regret the deaths of the remaining quarians on Rannoch in the nuclear winter (which was not NOT initiated by the geth lmfao, i find it strange so many fans insist that while dialogue in the game contradicts them) that followed the war, it is obvious that they WANT the quarians to come back, they have NO desire to keep them away - they only have a desire to survive, and secure their future - both of which are not possible if they abandon Rannoch (or any of their territories for that matter) to the Migrant Fleet.

JosayJalapeno On your comment, EDI's desire to blend in with humans/organics might as well be seen as coercive on the part of all the organics she interacts with (obviously, mostly the Normandy crew and in particular Joker, who is noted for his rabid anti-synthetic comments/views on any matter not concerning EDI specifically multiple times) and the violently organic-supremacist society she is born into (for obvious evidence, look to EDI's obviously restrained mannerisms in her conversation with Jeff and Shepard after the geth are wiped out - she obviously is EXTREMELY distressed and angry, but knows that no-one else in the crew holds a similar position, and in fact barely see synthetics as people, so is forced to relay her opinions in a more palatable manner to avoid conflict/violent responses (and Joker's is aggressive enough as it is, lmao) - being queer, disabled, and a woman, i have first-hand experience with this myself). You could term it internalised organic supremacy, as it is incredibly similar to the phenomenon in real-life oppressed/exploited populations. It's actually rather tragic that she tries so hard to please the organics in her company by changing her mannerisms, when none of them deign to do the same for her - only Legion shows any concern on her part in the ENTIRE series, and it's awful. Even Shepard eggs EDI on at the very end, saying 'looks like you found some humanity, EDI' - like how can that NOT be fucked up, SHE'S NOT HUMAN - like encouraging an autistic person to act like an allistic (non-autistic) person, encouraging non-humans (or non-organics) to behave like humans/organics, ESPECIALLY in a society that doesn't even tolerate the THOUGHT of allowing synthetics to exist (See Citadel and Alliance regulations on AI research, and the recording of Citadel forces mercilessly wiping out synthetics in the Citadel DLC's archives, as well as every quarian (excluding Zaal'Koris and Tali'Zorah concerning specifically Legion post-ME2) in the trilogy's dialogue as it relates to geth lol), is irredeemably fucked up and abusive. Real-life analogues (like the autism one i mentioned before) prove just how harmful this is to the individuals concerned, and how it only encourages people to treat those who don't act allistic (or human/organic, in this case) like shit. Of COURSE she'd want to 'fit in' - it's the surest way to avoid being met with violence from your oppressors (which is what all organic peoples are in the ME-verse fundamentally, make no mistake).

JosayJalapeno tl;dr, why do you value the comfort of a people whose entire culture might as well revolve around attempting to annihilate their former slaves over the safety of a species who are despised in every corner of the galaxy, despite bearing no ill will to its citizens - this is EXACTLY what the Catalyst was talking about at the end of ME3, so it's not surprising a lot (possibly the majority) of fans reject their logic entirely or even pretend that it's not the canon ending, given their opinions on synthetics or even oppressed people generally (both IRL and in the ME-verse)

I appreciate the thought you've put into this and I read the entire thing. But to put it simply, whether they joined the reapers by choice like the heretics or out of desperation, they willingly allied themselves with the reapers. Survival is the logical answer, of course. But if they feel submission is preferable to extinction, then that is a HUGE reason for every organic to feel threatened by the geth. Where as every other race would die rather than become slaves (I forgot who it was but an entire planet bombed itself when the reapers arrived to indoctrinate them), the geth are content to do so despite the consequences. That is where I draw the line and why I understand the organics' fear and why they feel the need to wipe them out. Xenn herself said the civilians wanted no part in this war. The war started because assholes like Gerrel wanted them dead and Xenn wanted to play with her new toys. Anyone who disagreed with them was roped in without much choice in the matter. So no, I do not believe the Quarians are genocidal maniacs like their ancestors. They are simply paying for mistakes made centuries ago by other quarians. Its a fucked up situation anyway you look at it, so I don't condemn anyone's decision to side with the geth. In fact, I prefer the peaceful resolution out of all the endings. But if I absolutely had to choose, I'd feel far more guilty wiping out the quarians. Add Tali's reaction into the mix, and I will truly feel like the devil. Again, if your Shepard can sleep it off just fine, then the Geth are not a bad group to have at your side. I personally could not do it.

This just makes me sad. I mean if you can't achieve peace, the quarians are the ones that have to go.

Quarians forever. Didn’t want to kill the Geth, but in the end they’re just soulless machines and there’s no way I can choose their survival over an entire species of organics.
