You know, as much as Humanity gets a shit ton of hate for Shepard letting this first Council die, this Council is WAY more honest about their opinions even if they aren't as nice about it lol. And my god, that new Turian Councilor is actually competent. Makes me second guess letting the first Council live even in a Paragon playthrough xD

His statements contain hardly any facts, just emotional pleas and "promises" of revealing his "big plan", "when he gets there". He mocked a disabled person, encouraged violent behaviour at his rallies and poses himself as some sort of representative of the common people, which he is not. He is also suspected of pedophillic actions The length of time a statement is made is irrelevant, that is his opinion and he has hardly given any indication he has changed his stance. He also has a track record of refusing his workers their due. He bragged about tax evasion on live TV. And his cabinet and the people he associates with have some pretty shady opinions. "Honest" is not a term that can be applied to him and he is certainly not just "a maybe badguy". Hillary and Trump are just two sides of the same coin. Anyone who's actually foolish to believe otherwise shouldn't be voting.

Some of you might not like what I'm about to say but I like this new council better that the old one. The reason for I do is because they have a reason not to help you early against the reapers while the old council refuses to help not once but three times in the trilogy. 1 they refuse to help when Saren hit one of the human colonies Eden Prime 2 they refuse to help when when the collecters attacking human colonies and after you saved their.

I agree. I only let the og council live in most of my playthroughs because I’m more wanting to save the Destiny Ascension and its crew. If there was a way to let the og council die without sacrificing the Destiny Ascension, I’d take it every time.
Quentius is much nicer than Sparatus, but other two councilors are maybe even worse than their predecessors. though Irissa (asari) is prettier lookin' than Tevos (thus much colder, which I kinda like)
I didn't like the original council. That's why I saved them: Not to save them pain, but for them to endure the worst of it due to their neglect: The turians lose some of their leaders in the war and they also lose respect for not taking care of a doomsday bomb in Tuchanka when they think they might need the help of the Krogans in the fight. The salarians get humiliated when the genophage gets cured and with the help of Wrex and Eve the Krogan actually become more civilized and willing to help other races. Also due to this the the Salarian Military is divided into helping humanity and not helping humanity. And the Asari get the worst of it (and most deserving): they lost their homeworld along with billions of asari (asari living up to 1000 years doesn't expose them to much death on their end making their ends even more horrifying) and they were exposed into breaking one of the biggest laws in Citadel Space: hiding prothean artifacts from the rest of the galaxy...artifacts that could've won the war if brought to shepard sooner. Having the council witness all of this and knowing that they could've done something to stop it as they get turned into reaper food when the reapers capture the Citadel in ME3, is a worse death BY FAR then getting betrayed by Shepard and having him turn his back on the council in ME1.
Honestly, I kind of understood the new council better. They sound like they want to help Earth and form an alliance, but their own worlds do come first. Unlike the original council, where they pretty much use Earth as a distraction for the Reapers so they can secure their own planets, and when shit does hit the fan, “Shepard! Help my planet!”
I much prefer Councilor Quentius to Councilor Sparatus. No matter what, Sparatus just plain hates you. I get that most Turians aren't fond of humans, but you'd think he'd be more grateful given that you saved him. However, I much prefer Tevos to Irissa.(the Asari) I'm neutral to both Valern and Esheel, though. But, if I had to choose, I'd go with Esheel, for the simple fact of Grey Delisle playing her voice.
100% agree. New Turian councillor actually wants to unite fleets and has faith in Shepard’s plan. Irissa is just cold, like a ruthless military leader promoted to politician. And I think Esheel is a much better politician than Valern. Valern seemed to be the kind of politician to move with the crowd, a sheep in the herd. Esheel seems to actually knows what she’s doing.

I personally would leave Valern and Tevos in power but Sparatus still lives in first contact war and humans are the biggest scumbags in the universe and need to be whiped out in his mind. When I killed the council, the Turian was immediately the best of the 3. Quentius, Tevos and Valern would make a much more friendly council. (Although they would be probably just as useless because they are bound by law and intersystem politics BUT it wouldnt be the outright anti-human hostility of Sparatus.)
Sparatus fought in the Relay 314 Incident. He had first row seats to humanity's fumbling in ignorance, opening every damned relay in sight without a care. He's an old Turian Fleet Commander, a wartime General set in his ways.
Honestly the new council feels way more helpful and understandable. Especially the new Turian councillor, actually trying to forge an alliance instead of sweeping his past bitterness under the rug. Also, the original council wanted to use Earth as a distraction to set up defenses for their own planets, defenses that’ll fail anyway! The new council actually sounds like they want to help Earth, but really can’t, at least not at that very moment.

@@MrKILLINOOBZ well yeah, the new Asari Councillor is WAY more cold about it, but the new Salarian councillor does respect Shepard for essentially throwing Valern out of the seat. So using Earth as bait must’ve put at least some weight on her shoulders.
Sparatus was getting on my nerves in ME1 and 2 but in ME3 he was the most helpful councilor, Tevos hid the fact that there was a valuable prothean artifact on Thessia that could've helped in winning this war until it was too late and Valern never actually helped in anything I only got one salarian fleet and Major Kirrahe from the salarians.
I must say, I find the new Turian Councilor much more sympathetic and friendly then the old one. Though the new Asari Councilor is, as stated in-game, much more cold and kinda bitchy. And I only like the new Salarian more because it's the first female we see. Besides that however, I think the old was shlighty friendlier. All in all, I actually can't decide which one I like more, though I tend to think the old one is better.

Basically they should have given us power and respect for paragon by the simple fact that we saved the galaxy and sacrificed many just to save the flagship. And for renegade they should have given us power we deserved by simply seeing the huge threat of us as an enemy and the gain of us as an ally. But no they only pretend to give us power as paragon and renegade gets a council that is not any better. That's all I was sayin. The way it was done saddened me but i understood the means.
@LightningSamus I think he was referring to the choice at the end of ME1 where you can either save the council (keeping originals) focus on sovereign (means council dies but is replaced with same council species) or letting the council dies in which case humans take control of the entire council
Yea, exactly. One of the biggest issues I had with ME2. You come back from the dead and the "human controlled" council wont even see you(even if u dont pick udina) and humans still have hardly anymore power than if you had saved the council. When i originally played ME1 I expected the play through of ME2 to be totally different depending on had you saved or killed them. killing the council felt like taking a sith path you know. like we was about to pull a sith empire on their asses. but no.
Yea but they made feel like we was about to try the biggest fucking coup in the galaxy. That it was gonna have a huge war with consequences. The Turians lost a lot of good ships in that battle of the citadel. And you could have had the "lesser" races support you by giving them seats on the council or through other means. and you could have got krogan support by promising them a cure. And the series has proven that Asari and Salarians are pretty shitty when it comes to fighting brute force.
Erm the old council doesn't respect you the new council respects you more than the old one does the old Turian counciler is still a douche in 3 while the new one treats you with more respect and actually says "Hey if you help me out with helping out the turians i'll help save earth." while the old one says "Help me save the turians or else i'll make sure the other races don't help you out at all."
he doesn't say a council of just humans. he just said a human led council as in the human councilor would be the lead councilor. and honestly that is what should have happened. you would have got a different experience as a renegade. you effectively helped the humans gain power through brute force and fear. where as a paragon shep helped through being nice and solving shit peacefully. basically a jedi vs sith situation. but nope, renegades got ass fucked.
The most strange thing is that in ME1, if you didn't save the Council, Anderson says it would be great to organise new Council with human leader. So, where is the human leader :\ ?
Also I completely understand why they scrapped it but the way they scrapped it put a bunch of plot holes and was just disappointing. They could have scrapped the idea but still given us some form of power. Even not doing a coup, the other races should definitely have seen our potential as a very powerful ally or an enemy that would cause havoc. In ME2 humans still seemed to be totally underestimated, and under-appreciated for saving the whole damn galaxy.
Why can't the protheans just call things as they are. "Conduit"= Mini mass relay "Catalyst"= Citadel Alot of this shit would never had happened if they just talked straight.
Well, I'm not afraid to say that Councilor Irissa's predecessor puts her to shame, especially with that arrogant ingratiating patronizing demeanor of hers. Don't try to placate those into some semblance, an illusion of courtesy and empathy by feigned pity. That's just absolutely disgusting. She was clearly disinterested in humanity, rather than simply disinclined to assist. A revolting display of deplorable conduct.
Shit i like the turian and salarian Councillor better then the real ones, i thought that if you didn't save the council humans would take over and i wouldn't get behind that.
@DeadGirlSuperStar3 That's lame. Though I guess it makes sense. It's thrown out as a 'suggestion' that the new council be completely human if you choose the Renegade option in 1, but it's understandable that doing that wouldn't fly with the rest of the galaxy.
Haha thank you. Since she was my renegade Shepard, I tried to make her look the complete opposite of my Paragon one..as well as most of the others I've seen. Most have the same short hair style and the lips... I noticed the forehead was a little big but I was too lazy to change it. lol
They're the only two females in this game that are Salarian. But you can only make it that way if you don't save the Council in the first game or chose to in the prologue if you get the DLC.
Mmm...its hard for me to agree, even though I felt the same way many times. Its more a case of 'linking together the story' - a necessary evil considering how diverse the games can become. However I think there should have been more exposition on the matter, maybe even a mission where you reform the council to regain trust among other Council members.
Okay I know people harp on the council for not doing much but they do have legit reasons if you look at it at there view. The first game it's cause Saren keeps his attacks outside Council space so if they were to send in there fleets it could provoke active war so they were limited to what they could do. As for the second game Shepard is known to be working with Cerberus and even if they were more willing to beleive about the Collectors again they can't really help much since Shepard is working with a known Anti-Alien organiazation which is pretty much terroists. As for this game both versions of the council again have legit reasons for why they don't immedietly help Earth which both Asari Chouncillers point out, Reapers have begun invading there home worlds so if they were to lend aid immedietly to help Earth they would lose there homes in the process.
quesion, now I saved the council the the first mass effect, because I and probably others too thought it was the best choice, now seeing this 'new' council in mass effect 3, are there any other consequences such as the salarians not wanting to sabotage the thingy? something different with the salarian and that chinese guy? perhaps something different on the asari homeworld? same for palaven? ANYBODY KNOW ANYTHING?
You never saw my ME 1 Shepard. I played 2 on PS3, got 1 for PC, and tried my best to recreate my 2 FemShep without relying on face codes. It...was problematic.
It depends on your past playthrough and your personal relationship with Ash. Depending on what you did in ME1 & 2 your reputation builds. Thus, it's easier to influence people to your suggestions. If you treat Ash like shit, she will treat you as you treat her. In my playthrough I had no difficulty to convince Ash to see things my way despite I threatened to gun her down by intimidation. If Thane or Kirrahe save the salarian counselor, convincing Ash will become child's play.
Ashley was mad at Shepard for working with Cerberus along with the apparent two year disappearance. She implied he deserted the alliance. That was established in ME2. If romanced and cheated on, she become super bitchy at him. She was mistrustful and indifferent of the original council. She has a scripted suggestion of sacrificing the council like all of ME1's squadmates.

Because Humanity would probably have been bombed to shit by now. How long did you expect the other species, most of which have been around centuries longer than Humans and have larger economies and militaries, to just sit around with their thumbs up their arses while a much younger race with a smaller economy and military dominitated the political community? The Turians alone probably have fleets at least double the size of those the Alliance has, along with better soldiers. Combine them with Salarian STG hit-squads and saboteurs, the biotic artillery that would be the Asari Commandos, the literal walking tanks that are the Elcor and Drell spies and assassins commanded by the Hanar government, the galactic community were probably like "Yeah, thanks for saving the Citadel and all, seriously, but we're going to bomb you straight to fucked if you don't step back a bit."
I would never do this, but their excuse for why making an all human council may actually make sense. Their excuse in game at the end of ME1 was that apparently such a large council force was destroyed by Sovereign and the fact that the human fleet took minimal losses due to abandoning the Council, they said that the humans would have the largest single force in the galaxy and that the other species would be too divided on what to do about the situation that they wouldn't be able to come together to oppose humanity seizing power. In a way, kind of like this exact situation, but with humanity taking power and less death. But yea dunno why the whole human council thing never happened if you chose to do that.

For me the new ones are less a-holes than the old one. They will always have replacement... you can't have humans being the one representing other races... thus a council to represent each one.
