A recording of the death of Mordin Solus in Mass Effect 3. This version is the full paragon variation, and includes Mordin singing the "Scientist Salarian" song.
This scene was so powerful and heartbreaking. You can tell he's scared, he starts humming to himself to calm down, but still he goes and makes that sacrifice anyway. He does what's right, even though he's afraid. If that's not true bravery, I don't know what is. Anyone can do the right thing if they're fearless, but fewer can do the right thing even in the face of fear. RIP Mordin, you truly were the very model of a scientist salarian. T.T
I thought I was the only one who picked up on that. I loved the humming and little singing he does to calm down. My heart breaks knowing that in game my friend is up there alone and scared. 😥😥
Was on the fence about curing the genophage the whole time. Didn't reveal the sabotage until the last moment when alone with Mordin. "I don't know if I can trust the Krogan, but I trust you". Confided in him and went with it because that's what he wanted (Eve was alive, so no option to convince him and I didn't try because I saw he'd made up his mind). Pretty sure Mordin was my favorite squadmate throughout the first 3 games (haven't played Andromeda yet).
@@shahmir5782 Personally I quite liked the squadmates in Andromeda, but of course it is sometimes hard to remember that Andromeda is a singular game, whereas the og trilogy most characters were able to grow in at least 2 games, which just made them a lot more memorable. This does make me feel the characters in Andromeda do not stand out as much as those in the trilogy, but they also did not have the room to grow as with the trilogy. IMO, still a lot of great characters!
Mordin was one of the finest characters in the whole Mass Effect series. He went over the mad scientist trope. He was more than the very model of a scientist salarian. :'(
exactly and in my opinion it was dissappointing when he said "Im sorry" instead of "i'll miss you" (i know its a bit dumb but it would be so much better)
I remember one time when I worked as a lifeguard, I had to swim out quite far into the Mediterranean, to pick up someone who drifted outwards. I had nothing with me except for a rescue can and all the way they I was humming "staying alive" just to keep my nerves.
One thing about Mordin: other than the Dalatrass, he’s the oldest Salarian you meet. He knows he doesn’t have a lot of time left-salarians are short-lived. So he is unusually driven to fix his mistakes. He and Thane are alike in that way
@@RandomTransGurl one thing that always makes me sad was if you speak to mordin about what he's going to do after the genophage is cured he said he was going to stay on the Normandy until the reapers was dealt with he's basically the only Mass effect 2 squad mate to agree to come back and help Shepard and Im not counting tali or garrus just me2 original squad mates
@@RandomTransGurlthere is actually a very hard way to keep him alive, but it involves Wrex and Eve dying as well as set up from ME 2 by keeping the research data
@Marrick Curia the krogan adapted to the original genophage, mordin was the one whom altered it so they'd pretty much never adapt to it, or atleast to the point of them dying out before that happened, so he was solely responsible for the deaths of hundreds of millions atleast
@@Bloodshield975 not really death, more like stillbirth. I'm currently playing thru ME with my roomate who's never played jt and when I told him about the genophage I described it as "a gentle genocide"
@@Anemoia22 I mean I sorta agree with that and not? To me gentle implies they never knew what the problem was and slowly died out. this they knew and their nose was rubbed in it and they were treated like crap by most people. and in the case of the deaths I mean kinda yea but also they would have been alive if not for his direct actions, it's like if you kicked a pregnant woman and she miscarried, as a direct result of your actions the baby died, now at what stage of development they die muddles that up a bit but the implication is it's more of just inferility but forced sterilisation and the eventual death of the krogan species would be on his hands still leaving him with a kill count atleast in the tens of millions.
@@Bloodshield975 but throughout the games you see why the krogan can also be a huge problem, it's the same with the Geth and Quarians. Only you can never actually make peace between Krogan and the Salarians.
If his death wasn’t emotional enough, the whole silent montage at the end with Vigil playing was a beautiful touch! This game had better direction than most movies
Yeah that is one thing you got to remember Morgan was almost the solarian equivalent of a geriatric, still shrapnel to the back of the head is not a very nice way to go.
To me that is what made this scene so powerful. Mordin lived his life and he did some stuff he regretted, something you come to understand in Mass Effect 2. He’s old and scarred and just wants to fight his wrongs before he dies. A little similar to Thane in the way he regrets the death and suffering he brought.
This scene made me and my younger sister cry. Mordin was such a good and wholesome character. Let us know that 2007 - 2014 had some amazingly made games.
In this scene he represented what it truly means to be a hero. Took responsability of his past, and did the right thing despite it meaning his doom. He truly was the very model of a scientist salarian
Just did my first playthrough of this game, and Mordin has to be one of the most well written characters I’ve come across. His death actually made me cry
Seriously mordin was one of my favs.. I was fine when he went up the elevator but when he started singing I gotta admit I lost it. Then it goes from the best scene in the game to that annoying dream sequence lmfao
JBear Antonicic Thanes death also left me with a lot of questions. Most notably, that final prayer that you and his son do, and then after his death, his son tells you that the prayer was for you. I actually stopped for a few seconds and was like, "Does he know something I don't?"
Would’ve been nice to have seen Shepard a bit more cut up about it, or at least salute the guy or something. As it is he’s sortof “k dude laters” as Mordin goes up the elevator
@@anonymousinfinido2540Pretty siree they mean Eve being dead. You can keep Eve alive through the games. I don't recall if Mordin still sings here or if there's a slightly different scene, but Eve can survive while still curing the genophage.
This is what I loved about Mass Effect 3, the story lines, even the side stories! They felt like a legit part of the main mission.. and in Andromeda.. it just feels like, they're side stories that add context to the main mission.. it feels.. like an actual quest, vs Mass Effect it felt like an adventurous journey.
Sad the only way to save him is the let both Wrex and Eve die then make him realize that Wreve isn't the best leader for the Krogan and fake his death and go help on the crucible.
Hmm die a hero to the yet billions unborn krogan soon to exist. Or be known as the one signed the krogan races long term death warrant I know which I'd choose if him.
the one thing that saddens me is that he cuts off just before he says "a Scientist Salarian" leaving the player to heartbreakingly finish his song for him
I don't care what anyone has to say about ME3 or it's ending, this is what I live for. I have my own problems with ME3, but 99% of the experience is just character work at its finest. My personal favourite of the trilogy.
Man... At first I didn't like Mordin Solus in Mass Effect 2, but the more I spoke to him, he became one of my favorites, so seeing this scene was so heartbreaking...
You can tell by the breath he takes as he goes up the elevator that it may be one of his last, and he was right. A true hero. Well done, Mordin, well done.
I havent seen this cutscene in years. Jesus christ it hits hard. The only scene that hurt anywhere near as bad was Tali shouting that she couldnt lose Shepherd again.
Moments like this make me wonder how anybody could dislike this game, it's so poetic and beautiful in its portrayal of the atrocities of war and how people respond to those conditions. The very fact that Mordin Solus, a character who was so adamant about the necessity of the genophage in the previous game, to the point where I actively disliked him, dies curing the krogan of the genophage and makes so many fans, me included, cry in the process, is so incredibly amazing I find it hard to put into words how it feels to watch
My playthrough I got him to sing in the first part, but not that second half. Instead it was replaced with his "seashells" line before the room exploded.
