Funny thing: In the light novel, Nimble, the knight next to Ainz, was absolutely horrified and on the verge of a breakdown after seeing 70,000 people dying instantly and the Dark Young being summoned. He actually went through an existential crisis, considering how pointless his pride in being named one of the 4 greatest knights in the Empire was when compared to Ainz's power. He was about to cry from terror and laugh from insanity. But Ainz thought he was just really excited to see the spell since it was one of the most popular ones from the game because of how impressive and flashy it looked. He thought Nimble was laughing and tearing up because he was really thrilled at how the spell was cast and thought his congratulations was genuine and not something he said out of fear.

In the novel once the “goats” were given their orders there was an entire page that just read “Spat. Splat. Splat.”

Soldier: “That was a powerful spell…” Ainz: “That was just the casting animation.”

So, for those of you wondering, Ainz has, single-handedly, killed over 180,000 people in this episode: 70,000 in the initial attack Over 110,000 in "The Splat"

Fun fact: What Ainz did was offer up the people to an entity in HP Lovecraft's mythos named Shub-Niggurath who is constantly spawning and eating those "goats"

Fun fact: when Ainz is departing on his goat, the knight asks him: "Didn't you killed enought? Are you a demon?" But Ainz considered it a honest mistake: "I'm not a demon, I'm a undead." That scared the knight even more, because while demons are up to mischievous or dark plans, undeads just want to kill every living thing. So his head just went "there will be NEVER enough killing."

The Dark Young treated everyone the same way, bestowing death upon them all. Surely they must have been satisfied after crushing countless humans underfoot, but they showed no signs of stopping. The Dark Young began to run. They ran on. They did not stop while in the midst of the Kingdom’s forces, simply running on. “Gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!” “Abbaaaaaaahhhhhh!!” “Stoooooooooooooop!” “Save meeeeeeeeeee!’ “Noooooooooooooooo!” “Uwaaaaaaaaaaaaahh!” The screams rose up every time those gigantic hooves came down. It blended with the sound of humans pulping under the Dark Young’s mighty legs, and the sound as they playfully batted humans away with their tentacles. A sound which men had never heard before went on and on without end. Trampled. What better word was there to describe this scene? Several people desperately thrust their pikes forward. The Dark Young, whose bodies were massive and who had no intention to evade the attacks, were hit solidly by the points. However, the pikes could not pierce deeply enough to cause harm to their slab-like bodies. They were masses of iron-hard muscle sheathed by thick, rubbery skin. The Dark Young did not mock their futile resistance, but simply charged forward. Before the soldiers realized that their fatal resolve was meaningless, the Dark Young had already reached the centermost portion of the Kingdom’s army. “Run away! Run away!” They heard the shouts from the distance. In response, all the soldiers began to flee. It was exactly like a swarm of spiders scattering in all directions. So some food for thought on Ainz's spell -It's based on the outer god from lovecraftian mythos. -The lambs are lvl 90+ and are focused on being able to tank hits and hit back in melee so it has no range capabilities (like it needs it) -The number of lambs is related to the number of sacrifices, so in the game the most people have gotten is around 1-2. So Ainz was excited at now holding the world record and that's why he asked for applause.

About why the army didn't retreat at once... in the Anime the "goats" are massive and slow, in the novel they are way smaller but SO FAST that not only they reached the army in the blink of an eye, they didn't step on the ground a single time.... only on soldiers. To quote an entire page of the novel "Splat. Splat. Splat..."

Ainz wanting Gazef to become his subordinate just reminds me of trying to capture a low level but rare shiny Pokémon I don't need

Fun fact, in the LN when Young Ones attacked the author just wrote SPLAT at least a 100 time and by the end of it the entire field was covered in what one might want to describe as human "patties"

I think the “I sense no players” comment wasn’t about the NPCs not beeing human - it was more about “I started casting an OP spell and a player would have tried to stop me already - so there are no players here and I am basicly safe”

The 5 treasures of the Kingdom that Gazef Stronoff was wearing this episode: 1. The Gauntlets of Vitality, that made their user immune to fatigue. 2. The Amulet of Immortality, which constantly regenerated his wounds. 3. The Guardian Armor, made of adamantite and enchanted to ward off critical hits. 4. Razor’s Edge, the sword created and enchanted in pursuit of sharpness, which could slice through armor like the proverbial hot knife through butter. 5. Rigrit's Ring, a ring that temporarily boosts the wearer's abilities by one-two levels when activated. Rigrit is that old lady talking to the dragon in S2E01. Edit: 1. Each of those goats were around level 90, so Gazef has got some stones to stand up to one. In the novel they were not that massive. I think they were only 10 meters tall, but they were so fast and strong that they could chase down the horses and anyone that was struck by a tentacle didn’t even have time to feel pain as their mangled corpses were flung into the air like rag dolls.

The spell is a reference to a Lovecraftian entity: “Shubb-Niggurath, Black Goat of the Woods With a Thousand Young.”

Although many people hate the CGI of this episode (and the previous one), what bothers me is the total absence of blood, in the novel there is a lot of emphasis on how the entire plain was covered in masses of flesh and blood everywhere. That was certainly a bit disappointing.😒 Ainz had already been losing his humanity since before he became undead, it's not his fault, his home world is literally hell on earth after all.

He couldn't even fight the goats and now he gotta fight the GOAT

A few fun facts: Those "Baby Goats" are Lv90, and don't possess any special abilities, they're just absurdly tanky. The chapter in the LN for this had "SPLAT." over and over and over and over. From what I recall, they're called goats because the god (the one that sounds like the you-know-what word; it's supposed to be like unpronounceable by mortals or something, a name that can't be comprehended) they're children of, some like old god Cthulhu-type bullshit, takes the form of a goat or something like that. EDIT: It's title "The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young", yes it's Lovecraft, the guy who wrote Cthulhu. Ainz is directly quoting one of his stories with the introduction of the children. His cat was also named something similar that RU-vid doesn't like. Whatever you're thinking, you are probably absolutely correct.

it's crazy that Shalltear is the only one from Nazarik we've seen go all out in a fight in 3 seasons. not one of them has had to exert themselves. even for Ainz when fighting Shalltear he was still holding back. I can't even imagine a threat that could bring out the entire tomb. how fitting honestly because they just out here bodying mofo's left and right.

Our Lord Ainz did give them a chance to give up and accept his terms. The kingdom are the once that picked a fight with our bone daddy.

I remember hearing about this in the Light Novel. When those Baby Goats were slaughtering those Soldiers, Even The Empire soldiers were praying for them to survive this nightmare.

the giant goat monsters are level 90. also in vol 1 of overlord ainz said he thought of this as real and not a game. while he doesn't feel anything when they die as a former human he doesn't want to see needless killing of innocents that why ainz had the humans that demiurge captured in season 2 killed without pain.

in the novels the imperial knights watching the carnage full on PRAYED that at least one more of the kingdom soldiers would survive and when they panicked and ran away 143 of them died because they fell and got trampled by the others, after the battle 3788 asked for retirement, thousands complained of night terrors and there were at least 200 that were mentally unstable bro ainz destroyed the imperial knights and they were allies

I love how in other animes, when you see the two characters that you like fight it's goes like: -Oh this is gonna be an epic fight, it will be awesome, etc. When they see someone go against Ainz they are like: -Damn, he's gonna get clapped already?

Also I really hope after seeing momon's role in next episode, they can finally let go of the bad feeling of momon being harmful to Ainz in future.

I would actually love to see Roshi play South Park:The Fractured But Whole if only to see him react to that.

In the novel, Ainz brought other undead aside from the Death Knights...they weren't name but the way it was described was that he brought Nazarick Old Guarders riding on an undead horse called a soul eater. Soul eaters are so Op that 3 of them wiped out one demi country before.

Ainz: If you submit to me, these baby goats disappear and no one else has to die Beef Strogonoff: Nah, man, I wanna throw hands Ainz: ...boi if you don't-

Humans to Ainz isn't like npc's but more like ants or "sheep" if you would. They are inconsequential until they make themselves known. He said it himself, they are like maggots to him.

I did love this episode but I was always a little disappointed they took out one of my favorite conversations from the novel. After ainz steps out from behind the death knights the adventurer experts under marquis raeven come to warn him about how strong the undead Ainz commands are When they see ainz they simply say ““Is he the one who summoned the Soul Eaters? Him? Marquis Raeven, we-” The fearless warrior of countless battles swallowed heavily, and continued in a lowered voice. “--What the hell are we fighting here?!” One of the most badass lines in the novel. These warriors who’ve risked their lives thousands of times can’t even comprehend wtf ainz is

in SS1 Gazef used himself try to save the villagers, but in this ep he willing to sacrifice everyone in the kingdom to stay loyal to the king. I think those armors must have some spells in them to control those use them in order to protect to crown.

This is the episode that made me put Ainz as the most powerful isekai'd character in all of anime and while there have been many challengers since this episode I still have him number 1 on my list

FYI: Shub-Niggurath (black goat) is a Lovecraftian god. It's Cthulhu's grandmother. So Ainz is calling in favours from a pretty high level entity. So it's not all that surprising it sent those soldiers into despair.

When ainz doesn't sense any player it's because no one was trying to attack him when he was channeling his super tier spell. Because if there is a player that player would've known if that super tier spell is a bad news and will try to interupt the caster before the spell is completed. That's why ainz was sure there aren't any player in the kingdom army.

fun fact the total death toll after this battle is over 130k and it was not just devasating because of the loss itself every soilder you see die was a farmer or worker who provided the food the kingdom needs to survive ainz did in one day what the empire has been doing for years and this battle all but dooms the kingdom someone just needs to put it out of there misery

shub-niggurath is an eldrich being from the lovecraft novels (same universe that Chthulu is from), it's the goat of a thousand young. Also the anime didn't do the novel justice at all this episode, the atmosphere in the novel is described as a creepy place, foggy and with ruins here and there, it's also suppose to be near winter so the sun shouldn't be as bright, the baby goats were also fast as hell, here they made them super slow (cuz cgi) but in the novel it's described as the goats stepping on the soldiers extremely quickly. Another thing to note, the Marquis Reaven actually survived despite the massive death flags surprisingly lol. And lastly the goats killed over 100,000 men by stepping on them, the total number of casualties was like 180,000 if I'm not mistaken.

So Shub-Niggurath is the is the black goat god of dark fertility in Lovecraft mythos. Whenever she is summoned she always brings with her (or births?) dark spawn who are said to be either goat or lamb like. And the Ia, I am pretty sure, just comes as a "praise" of sorts for the Lovecraft gods, but most specifically Cthulhu. Ia Ia Cthulhu f'thagn.

Shub-niggurath is a Lovecraftian Great Old One. a cosmic creature of mutation, fertility and woodland worship of ancient faiths... and also knows as the Mother of 1000 Young. Those 'goats' you see? they are the Young. and just a few of them :p

I already posted a similar comment on the s3 ep 10 reaction but there a few changes, namely Ainz's army weren't just death knights. volume 9 ch 3 It was 200 death knights, 300 death warriors and all of them riding soul eaters, 500 of them. - 1 death knight is equal or greater than an adamantium level adventure group. Infact 1 of them could endanger the entire empire. In fact the 1 trapped under the empire's magic tower was defeated by being cheesed by Flunder, using flight magic and raining down offensive magic from the sky. - Death warriors might be the same level as death knights but less tanky, more mobile and have access to ranged weapons - And then there's the soul eaters, 3 of them killed 95% of a population of city in kingdom of beastmen. And they should be huge maybe close to an elephant since death nights are riding them and it'd look silly if they were oversized
