@@LordDaret Yeah if you don't desire at least some form of power how can you rule? Rulers like that lead to bad times. Corruption of the lower nobility with weak kings. Look to the Empire for the opposite of that. Strong ruler goes extreme and does what Ainz does but on a different level. Kills a bunch of people and consolidates his power over the rest of the nobility and the country.
I'm just sitting there like why are we cheering for the baddies!? Then that plot twist with the princess comes in and my first thoughts are there is zero chance that a coherent narrative becomes of that. And so far there has been no progress on the backstory of the series either. So are there scenes missing from the Manga or did the anime cut at the wrong spot?
The way Zanac was betrayed was so despicable that even Ainz, someone with emotion suppression on auto, couldn't stop his fury showing up for someone outside of Nazarick. I read the LNs first and reading that part really made me stop feeling any bad for any of them at all and actually wish for them "to stay alive in Nazarick" which...you know what that means.
Earning Ainz respect is not easy. He was also in the right that the citizens of that kingdom was beyond help. It might sound bad saying this, but Ainz did everyone a favor destroying it.

I don't think it's a far stretch I think so Zanac was more of a King then any other his leadership was true king worthy and lord aiez respected him I think he would have brought him back to life of his head wasn't cut off he really liked him.
He was a man who in the height of his pride was arrogant however once he was in a position to understand how fucked he was he was willing to try and bargain until he was told he wouldn't accept surrender. The man realized nothing could be done and so accepted the sins of his people
When the cowardly nobles rode up to present Zanec's head to Ainz, he was sitting on his throne trying to figure out a way to minimize the loss of life in the Kingdom without appearing weak in front of his Guardians. Zanec had convinced him that there was no need for unnecessary suffering, but Ainz is TERRIFIED of the Guardians learning that he isn't as all-knowing and all-powerful as they see him and abandoning him entirely, leaving him alone in the world. That whole plan went out the window with the act of treachery. It led him to believe that the Kingdom was entirely beyond saving and that a purge was the only right course of action.
Mate, I'm pretty sure by the time the armies met literally millions were already dead, Ainz only promised to minimise the suffering, and if I remember it correctly, only grudgingly agreed to a secret petition of the good aligned NPCs such as Sebas that asked he spare a few more than just the collaborators and their subjects. As far as I understood it, Ainz genuinely believes it's a good way of showing the world his power and what happens when you cross him, which is fucking retarded since most humans are super weak by New World standards, and most nations wouldn't give a fuck, but that's pretty much in line for his character.
@@johnkonig865 oh it is most certainly an overstatement of his power, and completely unnecessary, but that's not the issue. Ainz can no longer feel empathy for the average being. he has to have gotten on well with a person in order to feel any sort of compassion for them. coupled this with his actual real fear of losing those who he has left and it leads to him seceding to plots that he wouldn't have otherwise even gave a single thought to. Ainz literally only agreed to the obliteration of the entire kingdom because that's what the floor guardians thought he was thinking. during their meeting after the attack on their caravan, he was bewildered at the conclusions the guardians came to concerning his "plans". i agree that his motivation for pursuing such a slaughter wasn't for his own gain, but simply because it was what the floor guardians thought he'd want. Ainz is stumbling through being an Overlord. he handles internal politics and matters concerning Nazerick itself, but beyond season 1 and 2, most of the plans that come up are plans thought up by the floor guardians themselves. he feels like he has to continue to put on this charade to stay atop the pedestal that all followers of Nazerick have put him upon. as for the act itself, it most certainly was a good way to showcase his power, if WAY too excessive, but the whole spiel was meant to be a message to every other political body that any attempt to bring harm to the Sorcerer Kingdom would end in ruin. there would be no surrender, there would be no mercy, only rubble and corpses. i don't see how nations couldn't care when a threat such as Ainz shows up, takes out an entire army with one spell, defeats both the Kingdom's and Empire's best warriors effortlessly, and proceeds to casually destroy the entire royal capital in under a day.
@@Dracon350ronically it backfired, when other countries found out how viscous Ains was, they assumed that extermination was his true goal along. Even though taking up arms seems suicidal, if you think the alternative is to sit around until ains comes up with a justification for war, you might as well try.
@@yhwach1 Ains occasionally says and does stuff to make him and his kingdom seem not as strong as it is. So the other countries don't realize he has the strength to fight wars on multiple fronts. Logically that would mean that the reason that the reason Ains tries to make alliances and the like is so he does not get destroyed when the world "realize his true aim". In reality of course Ains is not really planning ahead and instead the Guardians implement what ever off hand comment he makes in they interpret to further his "goal is world conquest."
The betrayal by those nobles is one of the most stupid and despicable actions you'll find in any series. Even though Zanac was unable to get Ainz to accept their surrender he won something that nobody else could've. He earned Ainz's respect and as a reward Ainz promised that he would give them all gentle and painless deaths which was better than nothing. But because they betrayed them not only did the nobles suffer a fate worse than death, most of the remainder of the kingdom died painful and brutal deaths. They should've just died honorably on the battlefield because, at the very least, it would've ended quick and painless
More than that, in the LN Ainz is even considering stopping the invasion entirely after his conversation with Zanek, such is his immense respect for him. Before the noble’s coup happened…
@Captain Firespitter Despite that Ainz definitely wouldn't have stopped the invasion since up to that point he'd already have killed close to 70% of the population within the kingdom (The massacre that happened after Zanac died was another 20+% of the entire civilian population) at that point there was no going back but because of what Zanac was able to accomplish Ainz would've kept his promise of using spells that would've been painless instant deaths and he would've taken the time to personally do the same to the capital giving those people swift and painless deaths but because of those nobles betrayal that all went out of the window and Ainz gave the order for Mare and Cocytus to give the rest of the Kingdom's population brutal and gruesome deaths such as being crushed to death by Mare's earthquake spells, Aura's pets squishing and eating people, Cocytus freezing everyone into icicles, and the rest of Ainz's undead forces chopping up anyone that was still breathing. Even if Ainz wasn't gonna stop the invasion, because of his interaction with the Zanac at the least he was able to win them painless deaths but those nobles flushed that down the toilet.
The saddest thing of all is that Zanac was actually able to impress Ainz to the point after the meeting that Ainz was seriously considering accepting the surrender appeal, and then the idiotic nobles had to give him Zanacs head in a vain attempt to appease him.
Ainz had no intention to accept the surrender, he genuinely believed that the slaughter of the Kingdom was necessary to show the world what happens if you cross Nazarick, which is fucking retarded if you ask me, but that's pretty much in character by now.
@@ernestogastelum9123 ainz had already annihilated the big bad who destroyed the sacred kingdom, one of the strongest nations in that part of the world. The empire submitted to him already. Did nothing except get rid of lazy nobles I guess
The corrupted kingdom meet its end because of the nobles. They made Ainz disgusted by seeing their nature. I feel bad for Gazef and Brain being part of that nation.
This isn't too far off from what America looks like today. I guarantee you all our corrupt politicians and leaders would gladly sacrifice the whole country to secure their own safety and freedom. In fact that's what they ARE doing right now. What's that? Spend another 500 billion dollars on more garbage policies and security for the millionaires? Sure. Why not. Zanacs character arc is completely underrated on my opinion, when we first saw him he seemed like the stereotypical cowardous snobby out of touch royal who didnt care about his people and only cared about gaining power for his own end and obsessed with his own image. But the over time we see the change in him and how by the end i felt really bad and saddened by his death as he showed us that he did care for his kingdom and you can see his frustration and sadness that he couldnt save it.
That is the thing. He never really changed, we just got to know him more. Even on the novels he starts sounding and being described as that snobby silk pants, but we see he allied with Raven, made a deal with his sister for help in managing the kingdom better, proposed solutions to several issues like the death of so many farmers and their now orphan children and widows. That final scene just sealed the deal.
Was he really changing over time though? for instance I remember in the 3rd season he greets Albedo and her demon entourage as if it were nothing. At the time I thought he must be really stupid to not realize how much danger he's in but no. He knew all along but he simply accepted it as part of his duty as royalty. He was always like this, it's just that we never got to see it because he was overshadowed by his siblings & father.
@@Archedgar He was basically the smartest person in the room who was cursed by being surrounded by idiots. His brother was so consumed with glory and proving how great he was to his father that he marched to his death needlessly. If he just did what he was told he wouldn’t have died. She literally wanted him to die so she could bring him back to life so he could be weakened and she could care for him. Then there was the various nobles who thought an act of betrayal was going to make Ainz trust them and accept their surrender or at least spare their lives. No leader would trust someone who would so quickly kill their own leader without provocation.
He never actually changed - being a stereotypical cowardly snob was all an act in order to prevent conflict over succession by convincing his older brother that he wasn't a threat. Aside from his father, he was the only one who actually cared about the Kingdom. Unfortunately, when his older brother died he had to drop the act and step up. He knew that Renner was also putting on an act as a naive princess and was actually smarter than literally everyone else in the Kingdom. In fact if Renner had any humanity, he would have gladly ceded the right to the throne to her. As such, he had to change strategies and lacked enough political power to depose his father when the Kingdom needed him to. By the time he was able to do so, the Kingdom's fate was already sealed. Arguably, if the King had heeded his advice and handed over Philip to the Sorcerer Kingdom immediately without even waiting for a response, they might have resolved the situation before Demiurge had a chance to come up with his plan.
@@johnkonig865 well… they swore it to the Royal family didn’t they? What kind of noble lineage swears to the King singular and present tense? With how silver tongued and two faced royal/noble courts are in history, such subtleties in wording can easily escalate to treason accusations. No doubt they swore to the entire royal line
@@Novumic What I mean is that there's loyalty and then there's loyalty, if there was any hope of victory, sure, then fighting and most likely dying to grasp that victory would be a reasonable expectation to hold. But the army they were facing wasn't the only one they were up against, and when Zanac returned empty-handed, pretty much saying that the only way they were going to live is if they manage to do the impossible and beat the legendary undead army with an army of peasants, then it's really not that unreasonable for the nobles to look for alternatives. And when you put their loyalty to Zanac, an unproven prince with no martial skill that didn't even manage to surrender to the Sorcerer King when face to face, with the loyalty towards their own lands and families, it's pretty clear who's going to win that struggle.
I think the point of this part of the story is that people value different things. I assume you noticed by now the word "Betrayal" is quite nuanced. Ains admires principles. Gazef, Zanack, Unglaus, Ranposa, Renner, Raevan, Blue Rose have principles. Yes Renner too because in her mind she had never belonged to the Kingdom. She offered her allegience to Nazerick to achieve what she wanted. She's loyal to that. Raevan is loyal to his son. Blue Rose follows Lakyus because they are friends. Gazef followed Ranposa to the end. Zanack is loyal to the Kingdom. A little too loyal because he stayed despite watching Ranposa push the Kingdom to destruction because of his loyalty to Gazef. Ains even respected Neia Baraja's loyalty even though she made him uncomfortable. In a sense his anger at Zanack's death mirrors that of his anger at the Swords of Darkness's demise at the hands of Clementine. The Swords of Darkness were loyal to each other (it reminded him of his own loyalty to his old companions) while Clementine was loyal to noone except herself. Yeah those Nobles are screwed. Maybe not more than Phillip. But close enough. People are going to become toothpaste tubes.
Holy sheet. Finally someone else that understands Ainz's emotions.... must be a proper LN reader. Yes. When Ainz is juuust angry enough not to trigger the emotion suppress it causes hyper-focus and cold rage which drastically amplifies his usual character. It happened when he learned Clementine had tortured & murdered Ninya and again when he learned Zanac was betrayed. The anime does a terrible job of showing this, yeah.
It's also implied that after the meeting with Zanac Ainz was starting to ponder if full extermination was the way But the nobles' betrayal dissipated his doubt: there was nothing else worth of the kingdom to be saved. So, everyone dies
@@-Apoptos- Yeah, I'm pretty sure everything Ainz said was that he would make their deaths as painless as he could manage, or something to that effect.
I think he was just contemplating destroying everything. And that he didn't need to kill in a cruel way. Yup, people were going to survive this invasion. Afterall, he got convicted by Alpha to also spare some people. The point of this invasion was to show Nazarick's power. The stick to Empire's carrot. While they wanted to use both carrot and stick on The Kingdom of Restize, Phillip messed that plan. Damn Philip did mess up real bad. Killed millions, and is indirectly responsible of the destruction of the entire capital. No wonder a certain finger was scared as heck to need Ainz and talk about that issue
The scary thing about this is you can literally see Ainz just fed up with the nobles. He was always acts kingly in front of others especially in guardians. But when they gave Zanac's Head, he didnt keep up appearances anymore in front of them. He just grumbly walk to the throne and sit like a freaking delinquent even in front of the guardians. The scariest thing about this is it didnt reach his emotional barrier... He just didnt care anymore. Hed just make his guardians do whatever they please in the most painful way possible. I think this is more scary than when he got angry at foresight.
Oh definitely. I think the line "Even if they beg for death, don't kill them too quickly" is one of the coldest lines in the series. If a man is calm when angry, that is the man you should fear the most.
I seriously was surprised that he is genuinely care about his kingdom, I was expecting him to do typical begging or surrender so he can be safe when having conversations with ainz and also him dying was a complete surprise to me too since I was expecting a huge one sided battle
Such a sick twist of irony that he was literally the only heir to the throne that actually cared about the kingdom yet in the end he's killed by citizens of the country he cared about. Such a tragic yet ironic end to Zanac

@@-Umbrella. Actually Renner is stated to fully support and help Zanac manage the Kingdom in this what if timeline, probably because Zanac is the only one who "gets" her.
@@-Umbrella. Renner never had ambitions for the throne. In fact, her being a queen would have made it harder to be with her knight. Especially, because said knight would have found it harder to break out of his station and marry her. She even said that if Zanar had offered the "when I am king you can keep your knight, marry him and retire to the countryside" deal earlier she might have taken it. Unfortunately, Nazarick offered a better one (for eternity, no need to hide).
You forgot that if Ainz were not isekai-ed into this world, Zanac probably would not be king. His older brother would be king first. Of course, there might be a civil war between Zanac and his older brother as both of them having support of separate nobles. Since the death of the crown prince by the hands of one of Ainz's battle maids, Zanac's path to become king was made easier. Without Ainz, I think Renner wouldn't betray the country so easily because she needed a powerful backing if she were to betray. Since Ainz was the powerful backer that she needed, she just betray the country. The corruption of the nobles, especially headed by the crime syndicate '8 Fingers', would be very difficult to get rid of as their influence had gained so much momentum throughout the years. Getting rid of them could take a very long time. Nazarick may have taken over '8 Fingers', but Ainz made it easier to get rid of the nobles by destroying the kingdom.
Keep in mind, the Slane Theocracy was 100% okay with Ainz destroying the Kingdom since they were basically trying to do that anyway. The reason for that is because, unlike the Empire, they considered it a failed state and a waste space. It was being run by the 8 Fingers in all but name, the nobility and most of the leadership were blatantly corrupt, they scorned magic and completely ignored its potential leaving them open for someone like Ainz to show up etc. Basically the Kingdom's only redeeming qualities were the handfull of strong individuals like Gazef,Brain and Lachius as well as the Royal Family. So the fact that a nation entirely dedicated to "spreading the glory of mankind" thought they were trash says a LOT.
I agree the Reistize Kingdom has fallen long before Ainzs and Nazarick even got there it still would have been destroyed by Slane Theocracy or more. This reminds me of Star Wars how the Galatic Republic has fallen before the Clone Wars even started and became an The Galactic Empire but name, both regimes were strong on the outside but weak on the inside in other words rotten at its core. Reistize Kingdom was already set to fail when the Nobles & Royals became divided into two factions and at each other's throats. Marquis Raven tried his hardest to save the Reistize Kingdom but it was far too late.
The sad part is, according to Maruyama, Raeven renner and zanac could turn over that condition. These 3 are some of the most brilliant mind in the new world and their chapter is just about to start. Sadly it didn't happen.
I really do feel bad for Zanac, Raven, Gazef, Brain and Lakyus including the King how ever the Re Estize Kingdom has already fallen to corruption and various snakes and it didn't deserve their loyalty and needed to be destroyed so Ainz can build a new Kingdom instead that will be better dignified and respectful no matter of lineage rank or status even race only through bringing results to the table and merits would matter. Plus thier loyalty will be recognized and rewared.
Marquis Ravens' opinion on Prince Barbro was a prime example (I will claim the head of El Niks' shoulders and bring it to you on a plate) Buffoon. Thinking the throne was his birthright maybe but still need to prove yourself worthy of it otherwise you're all talk.
The Slane theocracy allowed the empire to conquer the Kingdom not ainz, even going as far as doing false flag attacks to provoke them to fight, they didn't want a literal necromancer to conquer it.
To tell it simply they were cowards that are willing to sacrifice each other for their own safety. Zanac was willing to fight to the very end for the Kingdom and Ainz respected it. It is just human nature to be afraid of dying but it's how you deal with it that shows your true character. If I was in a life or death situation I would rather die fighting for what I love and care about rather than be a coward.
Man that is entirely contradictory. They betrayed him for their loved ones. They were not scared of themselves dying but also their families and friends. This is some awful inhumane way of looking at it. Not surprised you are an Overlord fan.
They had no chance of winning at all. If they surrendered their families would be safe, or so they thought. So no, your logic make no sense. Ainz is trash.
So far Zanac is the one of the only humans in this new world that Ainz grieved over. Except this wasn't the sob-in-your-room grief, it was I'm-super-angry-and-this-seals-your-fate grief. Edit: Yes, he mourned Gazef and even respected his wish to remain dead, but it was a duel of honor and an intended consequence. THIS outcome with Zanac, however, was not intended and was stolen away from him by the cowardice of Zanac's subordinates. Ninya was another, as evidenced by a comment's dedicated research below.
Correction. He did grieve over Ninya, that girl who was in his party when he first started adventuring as Momon. She seems to have had the biggest impact of all humans so far. He personally snapped Clementine's spine to avenge her instead of using magic. He even kept her journal as a momento and allowed her older sister to live in Nazarick with Sebas (let's not forget that the whole 8 fingers thing happened because they kidnapped her right after he promised her safety)
@@diegogrunt6758 Ninya was male in the draft web novel, however is confirmed to be female in the official light novel, anime and wiki. She simply dressed and acted like a man to avoid the potential issues that could occur with a single woman travelling with a group of men.
Miscommunication is the name of the game. If the nobles were informed that Zanac did try to negotiate, and they are told plainly that Ains doesn't accept surrender, they would've understood why Zanac decided to make a last stand. Heck, Zanac should've told them that they are free to ditch the kingdom, but hes going to stay and round up anyone that remained because he's the king.
But they were informed, this was the reason for them to prepare everything, they even hired mercenaries to be on guard in Zanac tent before the negotiation, and even used these mercenaries to kill Zanac since they were afraid to make it themselves.
They're Nobles, and self-deluded ones at that. They would simply think "Well of course he wouldn't spare these plebians but *i'm* Lord Somethingorother, master of the domain of somewhere, *I* am so far above these people, i'm special, clearly the wise Sorcerer King will recognise that and grant me the safety I am divinely ordained!"
tbh what makes it even worse is that he died while his sister gets to live her perfect dreamworld...and she destroyed their kingdom in order to get there...the kingdom Zanac gave his life for...all for nothing
Zanac was one of the few humans Ainz showed respec for, so to see him killed in such a way infuriated him. It goes back to his line in season 3, saying and showing in Nazarik death is a mercy. So saying "even if they beg for death, tell her she doesn't have to be in a rush to put them down" shows us just how little respect he had for these nobles
I like Zanac because nothing about him is a trope. He's a unique character that you can't guess his characteristics off of his appearance or even based on a few scenes. He's a good example of Overlord having genuinely good writing.
*I honestly to god pray that Ainz in near coming future resurrects Zanac and let him become his subordinate, theres no more character I love than him in this whole series*
IMO if they offered their lives instead for the safety of their families, I think Ainz would honor that sacrifice and let their families live in exchange for every leader and soldier's death.
@@ExodusCore Ainz was never really a badass person. He pretends to be in front of his subordinates. Also it's implied that he's slowly losing his humanity from season 1 where he first saw the invading soldiers massacre the village the goblin leader girl was in.
I actually kind of loved this twist as sad as it was because Ainz and Zanac someone reached an understanding with each other even with Zanac knowing defeats was all but assured he was willing to fight and Ainz seeing the betrayal "Did what he did" while I dont like the fact that it happened so we lost a fight scene even if it was one sided but we got to see that while Ainz mainly strives for Nazarick he still somewhat "cares" about others
A comment from a video showing the betrayal really summarized this scene. “Maybe don’t present the head of the last person you swore loyalty towards, to the person you are currently swearing loyalty to”
The blue roses did not really "Betray" Lacyus in that sense. they beat her up, weakened her, until Evileye could mind control her, in order to save her life. They knew that she would throw her life away fighting Ainz, even though it was hopeless, and wouldn't listen to them. so they forced her.
the fact it seem Ainz bond with Zanac for sure and I have a theory that once he beat Zanac in battle he was going spar him and his remind man, and let him rule the kingdom cause he was a good king who care about his people but after those coward noble betray him and show his head to Ainz all that spar them went out the window and decide to kill every one of those noble and it funny how if they just attack Ainz with there army they probably would have survivor

And the saddest part is, the creator of Overlord told that if it was him the king and Renner was on his side as a advisor, he could have made the kingdom a better place without the corruption and would have become one of the most noble kingdoms of Overlord. He was the key for Salvation, which they betrayed him.
Do you feel rage when Ainz decide to have their innocent children murdered just because Ainz himself is scared of looking weak and is upset that the nobles tried to save their own lives? Or do you think what Ainz does is correct?
All being a backstabber proves is that you are never to be trusted. the bias here is the princess plotted the takedown with Albedo to get her unique toy, Albedo liked her, Ains only intention in the first place was to make his Albedo get revenge and happy Only the princess was on under Albedo's grace
Renner was upfront and honest about her intentions and was one of the large factors in the Sorcerer Kingdom's rise due to her information. the nobles pretended to rally behind their prince only to betray him in a last ditch effort to save their own skins. the nobles had provided no benefit or use to Ainz and had just killed someone whom he had come to respect. I real history such an event occurred.. Alexander the Great was pursuing King Darius of Persia; only to find him dead. Killed by his own men. He pursued the traitors, until his men captured a group. He then said," Will the killers of King Darius step forward; so I may have them exalted before my men." The two stepped forward expecting a reward. Alexander had them impaled( held in high regard before his men) on high posts. An example to his men on what happens to traitors. He then says:"Only a king reserves the right to kill a king.. He then had his men carry the dead king's body with honor and respect to his kingdom..
So instead of getting a quick, honorable death on the battlefield, fighting for the kingdom, his kingdom stabbed him in the back, ensuring that EVERYBODY gets sent to the gulag...I hate to say it, but an honorable, glorious death seems to be one of the best endings most people can get in Overlord, and those guys blew their shot of getting into Valhalla 🤣
Would it be possible to ask Ain to turn you into a skeleton to eternally serve him without being traitorous? Because IDK but being a skeleton sounds cool, skeletons are cool. (Then again, I haven't watched anime so IDK much about it.)
@@soulbounddoll1826 well the average skeleton is a mindless husk, huge weaknesses to blunt force and holy magic, and aren't even used as the most basic of foot soldiers. they're literally fodder if Ainz even thinks to make them. the only ones i remember him utilizing were the ones sent to fight the Workers whom invaded Nazerick, to make them drop their guards. they apparently have a way to transform you into a demon, but you'd need to be of incredible use to Ainz to gain such a boon, like Renner. Ainz generally doesn't accept human servents. Tuare only got in because of Sebas and Ainz's compassion for her sister and Touch Me. your best case when dealing with Ainz is to both A; swear your loyalty and join the Sorcerer Kingdom (as to avoid being collateral in the event Ainz ends up starting a war with another nation) and b; avoid Ainz himself like the god damn plague. just live your life, let him do his thing, and obey the law. hopefully that'll keep Demiurge from randomly steeling your shins and hauling you off to his "Happy Farm".
Ainz was actually skeptical of whether he was going to go all the way with the destruction of the kingdom. But, the moment those nobles brought zanac's head to ainz there fate was set in stone
Nope, millions were already dead by the time the armies faced each other, and in the novel it actually took quite a bit of effort from the good aligned NPCs to convince Ainz to spare more than just the collaborators and their subjects.
An addendum on the nobles that betrayed Zenec, ut'd be dangerous for Ains ti welcome the traitors. It shows the traitors are untrustful and they'll betray their new faction, kindom, leader, etc if it means better chances if surviving for themselves. Most leaders in the past, present, most likely into the future, fictional or nonefictional worlds will never welcome traitors
the dood in blue is gonna end up being like lord touchme and its gonna really sink into ainz that hes now that devil thats bullying low level players and hes gonna end up seeing that the dood is blue created a group that reminds him of his own friend group
The even sadder thing is that bc of Zanacs low level he cant be brought back to life without becoming mentally crippled beyond proper functioning. And its sad really. The King left behind three children. The eldest was an arrogant jackass. The youngest was a psychopath. And the middle ironic to his appearance and behavior. Was the perfect candidate to become king. He wouldve made a better king than his brother ever could be. And he died bc the nobles were so stupid in betraying him. At least he had the decency to meet Ainz in person to try and talk this out bc he knew full well his forces would be wiped out. But i do have to say, despite knowing full well he was going to die in battle. At least he was content with it
Overlord is basically "Yank the Dog's Chain: The Series". It goes back and forth between comedy, action, and horrifying endings. The first season has a relatively happy ending, but all the others have basically ended in massacres, with lots of innocent people dead.
I predict that Ainz isn't going to respected after the kingdom's destruction but just feared. Sure most will bow to him, most will do whatever he says, but it will always be out of fear and not respect. He'll even gain nicknames but only of those of a destroyer, a mass killer, a infamous monster. And in the end he's going to end up hating it.
@@soulbounddoll1826 I just mean he'll find the rule hollow and dissatisfying . Remember when he tried in the 4th season to make the human citizens lives better and how shocked that even though the city he ruled was fully populated the streets were always empty and when the people saw him they ran in doors? And that was before he wiped the kingdom off the map, now that feeling and those reactions will be all over his territory and the neighboring kingdoms will have those reactions as well. He's an undead but he still wants the admiration of his citizens and the respect of the neighboring rulers not because they were made to like the monsters he commands but out of their own choice.
@@penguintaco9038 But he's not going to get that until he stands up to his subordinates and forces them to stop doing horrible things to the humans... that are his subjects in good standing. To use history as an example: Vlad is beloved at home because the horrors he inflicted were not on those under his charge. The same can't be said for a lot of what the tomb's leadership engages in.
I think that if Ainz wanted to keep growing his powerbase that he would resurect Zanac and reinstate him as a vassal ruler over the lands of his old kingdom. Zanac would be both loyal to him for saving his life, but also respect him for his pragmatism and willingness to protect those under him. though it would probably conflict with his insane sister i would rather just see him back TBH
To be an adventure you need to fight if you don’t you lose credibility. So shitty actions not only for adventures but as friends they need to respect wishes
@@Goldenmonkey13 Mate, adventurers aren't bound to nations, and Blue Roses doesn't need to care about losing reputation, they're adamantite ranked adventurers for crying out loud.
Worth noting this is the first and only noble Ainz actually genuinely respected from just a short conversation…and then he’s immediately killed by his own people…I’m sure a part of him was like “I will avenge you”
I’ve always had a personal theory that even though it is hinted at through “Momunga’s internal dialog that he’s basically just kind of accidentally ruling as a brilliant leader and that he’s always on edge about being discovered to not be the leader that the NPC’s think he is, he actually is a brilliant leader he just doesn’t realize it. The reason why he actually is a brilliant leader is because int intelligence stat from his Yggdrasil character is subtly effecting his actual intellect without him realizing it. Kind of like how his emotions are suppressed because of his racial trait of being undead but he doesn’t really register that either. So he actually is a brilliant leader, it’s just internally he doesn’t know he is a brilliant leader, there by all the “accidental brilliant plans” he comes up with while he thinks he’s just getting lucky coincidences it’s actually his intellect statistic from his in game character that is causing him to make the decisions that turn out to be brilliant. In short he every bit the brilliant ruler his NOC’s believe him to be, just doesn’t realize that fact.
What stopped Ains from Rezzing Zanac? He promised adventurers that he could offer that service in exchange for loyalty. That is what happened during the Arena battle. I can only think of it as if Ains would respect another person's right to die.
you lose levels when you die and get ressurected and even then you cannot be properly functional for quite a while Zanac is way too low level to be ressed
I remember on the book not even his passive emotion suppression was strong enough to manage how incredibly furious he was, on the book also explains a bit more how he truly respected Zannac and the scene of the head happens while he had this in mind. Alongside that other hero, he one one of the very few humans that he cared about.
At first, I hated Zanac because he gave off the hold "creepy perv prince" vibe to me. But as Overlord went on, I slowly began to like him more. And I liked him a lot when he sat down with Ainz and tried to be civil. But seeing his own men betray him and turn over his decapitated head to Ainz, good lord, I wanted to see his men get tortured and get a slow death.
Zanic's own betrayal was felt the worse as everything was proceeding as expected. Ainz got most of the competent people out of the kingdom he wanted out of the kingdom. Even then we know how Ainz can be towards those he respect where there was a wild hope or chance that he could have brought Zanic back from the dead or something. Instead what we got was not a fight, not a battle or not some greater moment. We got a bunch of cowards stabbing him in the back and handing him over right away even after their king offered up his own head to stop the war and failed. It was that betrayal that certainly sealed the kingdom's fate and showed that perhaps while Zanic was a flawed man, but a good one... The kingdom he was in was not worthy of him.
So... if you had these two options in front of you: 01. Fight and have a ZERO percent chance of winning. If you lose you and all you care for will be brutally murdered. or: 02. Sacrifice one person and try to use diplomacy to save your loved ones. Then you would choose to... not even try to save your family? you would choose the "honorable" thing? Because your honur means more to you than your family?
1) if they had no idea who he was then they knew he was undead who despise the living. That is the equivalent of walking up to Tolkien Orcs and hoping that giving up your brother won't also end with you getting murdered and eaten yourself. There is a reason why some people.sought to commit suicide rather than surrender to the orcs. 2) If you do know who he is... Then you know that he has a sense of honor and does not care about someone else offering someone else's head up as an offering. The king tried and they didn't care. I wouldn't betray the prince because it was honorable... I would have tried fleeing before the undead had arrived or maybe if I was desperate I might have tried a fast acting poison. If you do not know him then all you know is that he is undead and everyone knows why that is a bad thing. If you do know him then you know why this is a bad thing... If anything... Finding the idiot who started this war and offering up his head would give you better odds.
@@johnkonig865 They decided to betray the person that they were pledged to obey/serve... Then they tried to join the enemies side... (I do think Ainz choice to wipe out everyone was several giant leaps to far.) Them getting exactly what Ainz promised them was to me just fine... But I was mentioning that their choices, condemned their families as well... If they had entered the battle, they would have died a much swifter and more humane way... Ainz 100% put them in a situation that they would be killed under... They put their families into the torture though, threw their own choices. I love spouting about fictional things on the interwebs! :P
When you've been sent over to Neuronist and she's been given the ok to do her literal worst, BUT forbidden to outright kill you unless you specifically begged for death and only then by the slowest, worst way to die possible, you know that you've done F'd up big time.
Yup, I didn’t like Zanac as a person. I doubt he would’ve been a very good king. Just like mid tier. But he was dedicated to say the least, had his ego but it wasn’t out of check, like he definitely was going to keep things moving in the kingdom if he had the chance. Although the real brain would always be his sister.. So I was surprised when I was kind of sad that he got betrayed.
the prince zanac, i thought he will be the absolute corrupc leader(not learto to money, but about abosolute rule), and now my thought been slap by wrong thought lmao
It seems like each of the areas that Ainz put a ruler over like lupusregina they had a right hand person like enri and if they treated Ainz in a respectful manner like the lizard men sure cocytus killed a lot but since they showed Ainz something valuable about them and if they followed zanac's lead zanac would probably been made a sub ruler and some of the re estize would probably be spared
The treasure raid in season 3 is the worst moment for me. Between those guys that became living food for insects. And that girl that was just trying to make money sorry younger sibling could survive just to end up with her body being given to an insect girl for parts... I will never like the main character after that Ark The only thing I want to see in this series is ainz oal gown. Get what he deserves
I take it this was a homage to ROME with Caesar being presented the head of Pompei and yelling "HE WAS A CONSUL OF ROME!" Because to me this it also looks more like they just killed Arch Duke Ferdinand and his wife Sofia but also took selfies
You would mostly think of that guy as a random npc who is just destiend to day, probably a whelp who would sell his soul for a bag of beans. But guy knew that his kingdom was doomed, he knew that they would all die but he tried at very least that they died swift and painless death's and irony is that they were denied both.
The thing with Renner is, while what she did was overkill - she also did it because of bretrayal to her. Multiple time people give their word to her or Climb that Renner can marry Climb. The whole kingdom could have maybe been saved if people had kept their promises.
I always sort of figured this was also meant to show there are downsides to being perceived as an all powerful evil god-deity. "Oh yeah....if you terrify people enough, sometimes they do stuff you DON'T want them to do. Shit."
The mistake they made was thinking his life was there’s to take. This king was the only man in a sea of mongrels to be seen as a shred of humanity… and they took him. The rage momonga felt was probably as deep as what he felt for his comrades
Zanac started out as the character you'd expect to be your standard spoiled brat prince you'd hope never becomes king. But as the dominos fell he really stepped up and cleaned up his behavior. Before he even meets with Ainz you really feel sorry for him and the impossible position he has been thrust into.
