Massdrop x Sennheiser HD58X Jubilee Review & Measurements 

Makes sense that Sennhesier would release a model at this price point, given Mass Drops other recent collaborations. Excited to see there are even more options now in this price bracket! The smaller driver and increased sensitivity should help it compete well again'st the competition! Also, I'm ashamed to admit I don't usually watch Head Fi TV, but I have to say @Jude your delivery as a whole is phenomenal! Absolutely flawless from start to finish the combination of still pictures and measurements was also refreshing! Really helped break up the video and add some variety. You and the editing team do an excellent job! Certainly a lot to consider for improving my own videos!

Even if you completely agree with Tyll and think the 660S is significantly worse than the 600/650, this is a crazy good deal

Just joined the drop for these and I'm excited because it'll be the first time I wear open-back headphones. 🙏 It's nice to know that they're easy to drive because I don't think I'll be purchasing an amplifier anytime soon. Thanks for this informative video.

Man, I really can’t decide between these and the HD6XX. I have the 58X on order since I expected a huge rush of orders this morning. They said they’ve asked Sennheiser to up the bass a bit, but there’s no guarantee. Not having to use an amp would actually be really nice for when I’m playing games or just using my phone around the house. Sennheiser states the new driver design is more resolving and also stated that previous HD600/650 were also 38mm vs the 40 I’ve seen stated elsewhere (unless I misunderstood something). I also think that some of the people reviewing these headphones did so with the understanding that the 650s would be better given the price and thus heard more microdetail for that reason. Comparing sound is super difficult to do in such a specific manner without randomized and controlled DBT. I’m hoping these will be the ‘new’ HD600 variant, but wish they’d have spent a few extra dollars extracting all they could from the headphones.

I got mine on-order. While I prefer the matte finish of the Massdrop HD6XX, the price of the HD58X won out. And for me, as an office streaming music listener, they should be more than enough.

This is cool if you don't have a 600 family Sennheiser, but why not collaborate to fix the HD700? It could be a fantastic headphone if it's problems were fixed.

Nice video I just got HD58x to try I also have the HD600 and HD650 and my oldest member the HD560 Ovation I got into Senns a few years before the Ovation come out, try all different brands over the years but I keep coming back to Senns signature sound and I always seem to gravitate towards the HD600 :)

I look forward to hearing an update to your thoughts on the HD58x after the new frequency tweaks, especially in comparison to the HD6xx.

Got the HD 580, HD 600, HD 650, HD 6XX, HD 700, and HD 800. Will definitely be picking up the HD 58X Jubilee. Steering clear of the HD 660S, though.

Interesting headphones, did you test them against the hd 598s at all? I’m interested to see how they will compare to those, as they are almost at the same price point.

38mm drivers? That sounds familiar... Maybe those are the same drivers they have in hd599/hd598 with slightly different tuning?

Not posting graphs of this vs HD600 is a travesty considering that was the exact evolution of the line. Surely you have the data and could just create graphs without having to remeasure? Especially since this is now a different driver, it could be a much more relevant comparison than others in the family.

HD600 was the absolute best buy I have ever done.

Jude, thanks for the review. Can you comment whether there is any truth to the apparent reports that the final product will have increased bass? Do you have any basis to believe the final product will have more bass than the HD6xx? Also FYI I completely agree with your take on the 660s and feel like I auditioned (and now own) different cans than what Tyll reviewed.

Two things to consider.... 1. Estimated June 28 shipping is ABSURD and unacceptable! 2. They say 58x is still under development (supossedly to improve bass response), which makes ALL current reviews IRRELEVANT. Basically at this point nobody knows what the final version will sound like. Massdrop should be better prepared, wait for the final revision (instead of talking and advertising unifinished product) and shipping time should be at most 3months not half a year!

How does the HD58X compare to Massdrop's Hifiman HE-4XX planar?

Yes they have used that driver before, it's the same driver used in the HD 660s.

I have 650s and these will be the first added to the compliment in a long time. Being the first with a different driver has me curious!

I feel like I shouldn't consider ANY Senn before listening to a pair of 600's. They have been praised greatly... I must hear them.

HD58X vs HD6XX?

Man - my dad loved my HD600s this thanksgiving, and I fucking bought him a pair of the HD6XX... He doesn't have a stand alone amp. Great deal, but a disappointment for me since these are easier to drive.

How does it compare to the HD598?

This seems like a much better idea than the HD660S but without having heard them, I guess I'll have to add these to the (endless) list of gear-I-need-to-hear ;)

Is this an ease to drive version of HD600? HD600 is HD580 Jubilee, correct?

Can you run this with the Astro mix amp? Does it even gain anything from it? I'm just using it for the Dolby virtual surround for gaming and the audio controls plus balance between a mic. An added power boost would just be the cherry on top

Can you compare it to the game one headset I've been looking for a video that compare these both headphones for a while now Cause they have the same price and i play multiplayer and listen to music so im kinda lost in deciding which one i choose (don't care for the mic if the 58x gives that much of a difference in sound quality) A comment for now or a video later would be appreciated
