Thanks for the review and your experience working the Massey GC 1710 tlb. I've looked at a lot of tractors. For now I'm considering a similar model of Massey Ferguson. Appreciate your honesty.

I bought a GC1710 tlb about 5 years ago. Just did the 500 hour service. I have 8 western PA acres, which means hills. I liked my GC so much I also bought a 1726e 2 years later.. A member of our club looked my tractors over and bought a 1734e with a backhoe to do hundreds of feet of irrigation ditch.. My tractors completed 5 versalok walls, leveled a couple of backyards, put in hundreds of feet of French drain for a few homes, and moved or distributed a couple hundred tons of material. Beast is an understatement. They have both paid for themselves 3-4 times over. I have done a series of lighting, toolbox, and winch upgrades. The only thing I have managed to break is one of the ROPs lights, just like you. I keep up with all the maintenance on both and from the looks of the machines, they will both be in my Will and fought over. Enjoy your equipment and most of all, stay safe, thanks so much for the video and sharing.

Carl Rizzo I remember back when I was going to do a 500 hour review, time got away from me and before I knew it I had 1000 hours on it. It's awesome to hear about all the things you've done with yours, I myself just dug about 400' for French drains at my house. It's been my experience that maintenance is the key to enjoying a long life of trouble free work with the Massey. Thanks for the view and comment, happy tractoring!

Me again, I had the same diff lock issue. A lot of working it back and forth with liberal amounts of lubrication and it is back to operating like new. This was not a 2 minute fix.. I spent an easy 20 to 30 minutes working the pedal and lubricating the joints until it started working to my liking. Operate safely and good luck everyone.

Happy to hear the 1000 hour news. I'm glad I picked Massey. Best bang for bucks. (Nissan Frontier pickup=best truck bang) Those lights. I snapped one off. Used gel super glue to fix it and tape to hold it while the glue set. Perfect job. Can't even see the break line. Because the Massey loan stipulates I can't use it for commercial, and insurance says it has to stay on the property, I have thought to take those lights off and replace with LED spots on the front and back of the ROPS. Not out the side. Those lights are for the road and don't make sense in the bush. I have the 2018 model. Better seat, same bucket joystick. It is a beast for sure. Only 60 hours but I've moved a dump-truck full of rip-rap, truck of gravel, truck of crushed asphalt, 3 trucks of wood chips, put in three culverts, dug out my ditch on property road frontage, graded the driveway, used the backhoe with thumb to carry numerous large logs, and dug out at least twenty big rocks (the ones that stick up enough to hit lawnmower blades). Oh yes, it's a great tow truck for the other machine that broke down in the bush. 20 acre property. Mostly low lying inaccessible bush. Did I mention I also built two short 300' roads over damp spots with the rip-rap, asphalt and gravel. One was mostly to level the path so the side-lights don't tilt into a tree (the one that snapped it off.)

Thanks for the review Jason, I bought the 1723eb about a month ago and now have 26 hours on it. Told the dealer it would be 10 years before I had 50 hours on it but I just keep finding more things to do with it. I am in my 60's and it's the son that I never had, I call him Jr. The new seats are supposedly better, I do wish they could move the seat up closer to the controls on the BH so you could sit back in the seat more. I priced the arm rests they said 300 dollars I said no thanks. I do like the joy stick on the fender. and I did buy the mechanical thumb and it works well. A guy in another video said the hood is 1800 dollars. It is very well built and a beast ! Thanks again.

Robert, I know what you mean once you have a tractor you look for things around the house you can do with it and time Flys by once your in the driver's seat. I was actually surprised how many hours I put on Maggie I never thought I'd see 1000 hrs. I didn't see the $1800 hood video but that price seems about right. I would pass on the $300 arm rests as well.. I wish you and Jr many happy years and father son moments..lol. Thanks for the view and comment have a stellar week.

Hey John, thanks for the view and comment much appreciated! Shortly after I shot this video I did notice that I have a small hydraulic leak under the right front wheel housing I've seen videos where the seals in there go bad so I will need to take that apart to fix, I'll be sure to get it on camera along with the diff lock fix. Thanks for the advice and happy 😊 tractoring.

Hey Jason ! Just giving You a follow up on my brother getting his M-F GC1723 EB he took delivery 2 weeks ago & the 1st 3 days he put 15 hrs. on her so he is ahead of me in seat time for last month, Dang it! & I have 2 tractors oh well . I've not heard him this happy in a long time & he wishes he didn't wait so long when he thinks about all the physical labor who was doing on his property & I told him he would enjoy his mechanical child LOL ,He did get the mechanical thumb with her & he already bought the the steps & skid plate for her & I bought him a real nice hat & Massey-Ferguson decal for the back of his country Cadillac ( P/U ) & I did forward your video to him about 4 week ago , Have fun & be safe doing it.

Hi Jason. I just ran across this video from last year. Great review. I have the older model GC2610, which is basically the same tractor. I've only had a few breakdowns, and they were all my fault. I think every breakdown involved damaging a hydraulic hose or two. I agree, these tractors are well built and tough! Thanks for sharing. - Rick

Good to see one that’s been thru the wringer and come out smilin’ 😁 Hmm... I just got over 100 hours on my GC1723EB. The book doesn’t specify anything for 100 hours, just the once-a-year stuff; but I elected to do the engine oil & switch to Rotella T6 full synthetic diesel oil and a Mobil 1 filter. Engine oil is, of course, exposed to combustion, high temperatures, and anything sucked thru the air filter, so I figure that doing the engine oil early is more important than the hydraulic oil... the book says to do both every 250 hours; but I’m going to stick with 50 on the engine oil and 100 on the hydraulic oil. I figure it’s cheap insurance. My primary complaints are where the 4wd lever is located (it’s a little bit low for me; so I’m gonna have to cook up an extension handle); I wish the low range on the transmission was geared just a bit lower (pedal all the way down gets going a bit faster than is comfortable off-road, which means there’s some torque being ‘left on the table’, so-to-speak); and the 3pt hitch didn’t come with something like a Pat’s Easy Change from the factory (hammering on implement pins to get it aligned gets old, fast). I addressed the hitch issue with a easy-change style adapter from Titan; it’s not as nice as the Pat’s adapter, but it’s also half the price. The other thing I added to help with the implement alignment is a camera & lcd setup sold as aftermarket reverse display systems for cars. I mounted the LCD to the sunshade (another addition) so I just have to glance up, and put the camera on the back of the sunshade just past the ROPS mount, pointing down at the 3pt arms. Tomorrow or the next day (depending on when Amazon gets here with some extra screws) I’m going to add a second LCD and two more cameras (the LCD in question accepts two inputs), one closer to the arms, mounted down on the center of the fender; and I’m going to stick a front facing camera on a magnet to the bucket so I can see exactly what the cutting edge is doing. Being on a magnet, it’ll be easy to swap to a grapple or anything else I put on the front loader. The LCDs run about $15 to $30 depending on size and features; and the cameras run $5 to $10. eBay and Amazon both have them; and I imagine places like Banggood and AliExpress do too... If you’re going to order some cameras for your machine; make sure you get ones that can be switched from front to rear view mode, and that you can turn off or on the reversing guide lines. Usually there will be a couple of really thin wire loops that you cut or leave intact to configure the camera. Also, because it gets stinkin’ crazy hot here in the summer; I got a 12v fan (such as is sold for installation in big rig truck cabs, that hang down from the ceiling of the cab) and bolted that to my sun shade. It’s not as nice as having an air-conditioned cab; but it really does help a lot. Probably obvious, but if you hook up any electrical stuff; don’t forget an inline fuse holder, silicone wire (it’s much more heat tolerant than PVC wire is), ring terminals big enough to go around the bolts on the battery terminals (yes, you could hook up to an existing wire with those “vampire” taps, but a: you are adding extra load to a wire that wasn’t designed for it, and b: they can be kinda flaky), butt crimps or electronics-grade solder (and iron & flux - and don’t use plumbing solder, it’ll corrode your wires), and some heat-shrink tubing to protect your work. Also probably obvious, but that applies to cars, too...
@subcompacttractorstuff4053
@subcompacttractorstuff4053 3 года назад
Thanks for the view and comments! I don't have any cameras anywhere on the tractor but one near the cutting edge of bucket would most certainly be helpful, their is one wire that comes out the back from the factory I believe it's there for a rear work light but I only use it once a year for lights on my trailer as I take the family for a hay ride around Halloween. I haven't upgraded the oil or filters I use but do hear great things about Rotella. Back to the camera thing I do use a portable magnet type camera on my truck when I'm backing up to my gooseneck trailer as it's almost impossible to see where you are through the back window I actually attach the camera to the top of the neck looking down at truck ball and I'm able to align it up very well this way. Stay safe out there and happy tractoring!!

Well Mr. Jason at a thousand hours you have proved that this massey ferguson rig is of excellent quality & reliability. So many other video's & sales pitches with very little or NO back up. Thanks for vidio, happy safe tractoring. Just happen to have two Massey-Ferguson's; a 1988 2010 21hp 1686 hours. A 2016 1736 with a measly 10.4 hrs - yes 10.4 hours.. So just can't say much except it looks "pretty", just a case of "more money than brains" so far. Number 3- a 2017 Kubogy ,a mx5200 tlb with 778hrs does just fine except hydraulics are Kubogy slow. I need a (would like) a back-hoe attachment [a measly 10,000$]for the1736 to prove it's worth.--- but can't find any "REAL" vidios to spur me on--- like yours!!

I have 250hrs on mine overall I’m very pleased with it. I too had a issue with the hydro line rubbing thru. After replacing I put a small piece of old rubber hose around the line it and it solve the issue. Only other complaint, is the lift capacity of the front bucket seems a little weak to me. Also I wish there was a quick disconnect for the front bucket so you could add attachments like a grapple for moving brush.

Hey Jason I enjoyed your review and your honesty .I have a Massy gc1720 from later 2017 . I have used it but nowhere near what you have yours On the diff lock check and see if there is a grease fitting on the bottom of it . The reason that I bought my Massey was that I hope to do just what you did in the future and buy about the same amount of property that you did and then I will run up the hours but where I am at now is small and even using it regularly this past 3 yrs. I don't have but 160:hrs on it but as I say I have future plans to do just as you have and your review let's me know that the Massey is a good for the long run machine .Thanks for the video and the review. On a side note how has your little 12 ft trailer worked out for you? The reason that I ask is I use a 16 foot car trailer to move mine and it works great but I am needing a smaller trailer for other stuff and was thinking about a 12 to 14 ft tandem axle trailer with the railing that I could also load my tractor on if needed. Have you found the 12 ft to be to small now that you have other equipment and implements or still just right?

@@subcompacttractorstuff4053 I have a Ford f350 dually with the 7.3 diesel that I have had for many yrs. It's a great truck but I really don't need that big of truck anymore so when I buy stuff it is smaller than what my truck can handle because one of these days I will need another truck and really would step down in truck. I really like the 150 but can't decide on the Ecoboost or the 5.0 ,the ,3.5 Ecoboost has more hp and torque but I think the 5.0 might last longer and would have less parts to break.
