I have this same subwoofer. I ran 2k rms for about 9 months, then upgraded to about 4k-5k rms. The lows sound good in my vehicle. I did have a break-in time and I also have a huge box. About to get a battery smoke detector to put in the truck, just in case something goes wrong 😬😬😬😬
I liked the video; however, you never disclosed the box material used, never discussed the amp settings or power, pushing through them. These subs are made for a sealed enclosure if you want to get that low, with an exterior bandpass configuration to make the subwoofers work. Anyone that puts their sub firing into the backside of a trunk only wants the sound to seem bigger (boom). The real bass is felt before being heard from a trunk rattle, where it is directed to. Turn the enclosure around and sit in the car, you gave the sub in a ported box with an open-air flow with no restrictive force for it to try and play properly with the deck lid open then closed. Just my thoughts!
This sub will play in the teens guys. But needs broke in well. Fs drops to 34-36. And all other ts parameters are pretty accurate. We have done dats testing in fb group. They hold about 4k daily each.
Cool vids lately. Cool channel homie. At $250 price they use to be. Nasty sub. This $350 price. I agree be sure to kno u must really get them condition. Their best attribute is the recone area. That motor and pole will accept 8 layer. The gap is just right. In stock 4 layer form and recone area of 8 layer.
Tensil lead snappin, no lower than 40s hittin, overpriced, overrated, ancient technology, 2 of em stinkin at 1600 rms in the kicker enclosure, crappiest sound quality, make you wanna slap everybody at the stereo shop L7 12s? Those?
@@frankyoung4349 I got them when they were supposed to be legit and nothing was comparable about 10 years ago, and you'd hate em to if you spent 800 on them and they were jank...
There parameters are BS. But fs is still high but the rest of the parameters are way off. I used the dats v2 and was shocked. I inputted the specs from dats v2 into bass box pro and it actually suggests a box tuning at 36hz. Weird thing is the sub needs a tiny (net) enclosure. It was .9 for the 10 but the port specs pushed the gross volume up to almost 2cft on the hippo 10xl. But that MF got down low and dirty without a break in
Something weird going on here! I use the hippo xl 8's on a Massive Audio E4. I did a 2.2 Cu Ft. enclosure with a 34 Hz port instead of the 45hz port they recommend. Used the AMM-1 to adjust to their rated 1400 watts of power and they are rocking! Also did a Kilo X 15 in a 30hz 2 cu ft box on a Sundown SCV1500.1 and that thing was bangin out some low notes. Not a fan boy of Massive Audio, just thinking something is off here.
Merry Christmas good sir! Looks pretty massive! ;) T/s parameters must be wrong. Quite a few companies don't post accurate t/s, and some don't even post all or the important ones. Maybe they're hiding flaws
Strokers are the subwoofers that influence my love of subwoofers. they are high Fidelity subwoofers that does well and high volume enclosures. They are my dream subwoofers.
Just curious what did you tune your box to and how big is your box? I have a single 152R in a 3.1 cube box turned to 34hrtz, it may be because I still have a stock radio but I am not liking mi band width at the moment.
@@massivehertz3869 so your using a line out converter to get signal to your amp? And I have each of mine hippos in a separate box 3.4 cubic ft tubed to 32 hz with 54.3 cubic inches of port area.. it also takes a little while to get them broke in if yours are brand new.. I would suggest getting a aftermarket head unit that will help alot
I've installed 2 of these after building a box (to spec) in a friends car with a crescendo amp doing an honest 2,500 rms. It shook the windows in my house and it was physically painfull to the point I tapped out. BUT, it really didnt sound very loud to me. The customer was disappointed.
I seen harmony audio 12"sub that I was interested in getting could you do a review on them Harmony Audio HA-ML121 12" competition Subwoofer 3000W and Harmony Audio HA-C122 Car Competition 12" Sub 2200W Dual 2 Ohm Subwoofer
@@BudgetBassHead looking forward to it I have the same Ap 12s that you did against the skar 12 I love them but I'm looking to upgrade hoping the Harmony's are it
would've LOVED to have heard @massiveaudio weigh in on what has been shown here. THIS Guy has done his fair share of research, someone has some explaining to do LOL!
You guys want a sub that literally smashes the lows get a soundqubed hdx3 or hdx4 it has a fs of 26hz and it does hair tricks in my car with 2 12s in a custome kerfed box I tuned to 32 and it gets low very low I switched from 2 15 inch skar ddx to these and they are only 12s and get way way lower then the skars did
What frequency sweep app is that? I enjoy your page very much can't wait to see this against the American bass.I'm a straight-up dude and I'll have to say that I'm not a fan of massive audio by any means and I think that the American bass is going to take it out especially when it comes to reliability.
Don't know what your talking about the hippo is a beast in the right box i had the 15.2 and it was crazy. Mine was in a 4cu box and it was shacking my eyeballs. Its all about the box
Mine sound better in a sealed box. You have to break them in and when they are broken in put the power to them. I have one OG version Hippo 122 that has a black spider; 5 yrs hard playing and a newer red spider hippo 122; 2 yrs hard playing. The newer red spider went out on me when it over traveled and ripped the surround with no resistance from the sealed box the amp smoked the coil(s): subs ran in series/parallel amp see two ohms. Yes, they have lows at least they do in my CTS. Try this Song Young Nudy - No Clue. But all in all, bash them I want the price to go back down on Amazon. lol
@BudgetBassHead Toro Tech is a subsidiary brand of Massive audio. Thats why I'm certain your next video will reflect enormous similarities between the toro and massive subs.
i had a local shop built to specs per sheet that cam in sub box. i waisted $300. i have 3 spec sheets for this sub and they all say something different. I called massive and they blamed my amps. i was not happy and built my fist box for 2 of these. Just over 9 cubic ft center slot port tuned to 34 htz. i have them hooked to 2 Orion xtr2500.1dz wired at 2ohms. they are LOUD. dont trust the spec sheets or online manuals. waiting on a third hippo as im typing this.
I have the same subs been waiting on the right amp and box combo to put in my car, do you have a extra battery for the orion amp and what box specs are you running?
@@scottiffanimccord1509 Have a Summo XL 10 and that thing beats hard and gets low. No problems at all. I bought many subs over the years and its a good.
So you review this by putting it in a non recommended enclosure then you feed it so much power to try to make up for the lack of cubic space and you smoke some of the voice coil and then you give it a negative review... come on man following the instructions is fundamental....
i can always count on a thorough review when i watch your videos, and based off the info, you are 100% correct, that sub is meant to pound the higher frequencies, not the lows. good catch on the inconsistency in the specs and the leads, but overall its a good sub with very little complaints
Got one if these running on a 2100 watt brutus elite...when I tell people I have a single 12 they DO NOT BELIEVE ME lol.if ran right this thing will rattle your eyes and move everything around you lol.
They recommend tuning in the 50's and the f3 of their dual ported enclosure was in the 50's as well. That's a terrible bandwidth. I'm sure it sounds decent in a prefab box with the high tuning. I'm thinking the people who recommended this garbage of a sub have never heard a properly tuned enclosure in the lower 30's.
You are a builder and I love your construction videos. I hope you will finish the video with many types of small speaker boxes. (closed, ported, 4th and 6th order) I saw a hexibase video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CZaRQT3Rvaw.html at 4:14 he talks about a hybrid 6th order, he's really positive about this design. This extends the range of the subwoofer. Is this something for your channel?
I have covered and built this type of enclosure already. Follow this link to get started: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HTIpOZjw8Jo.html
