Well guys, after this wave of warm weather and the ensuing doldrums that followed, I decided to put together a video just to have a laugh, hopefully entertain you to some degree, but also to remind us just how unreal the canal can be. The footage was taken back in late July/Early August and in no way represents the current status of the canal. Stay tuned for an upcoming lure/gear giveaway for reaching 1k subscribers! I promise you it will be something you add to your normal rotation!

Chad Yang thanks for the thoughtful words man. As a fisherman, I always want to know what the next guy is using....I’d watch these videos on YT and people would always forget that aspect so I always try to incorporate that into mine. In regards to that guy, he ended up offering me $20 for my next fish which was about the same size, maybe a little less. Instead I gave him a magic swimmer 7.5” all rigged up and he hooked up on it within 5 casts and got busted off....I’m not an asshole, but there’s no way I’m handing anyone a fish that is perfectly healthy to swim off, money or otherwise!

I’ll always be fishing the ditch brother. And I probably have enough content filmed to make 10 great videos, but once my channel started getting over 100k, I couldn’t help but think I was part of the problem on those days where the place was shoulder. But the canal will always be so special to me. Caught my first keeper there 28 years ago, caught my first fish over 30lbs on a plug I made, got my first landbased 50 there etc.

Great video! My friend and I are trying to plan a trip up there. We're about 6hrs away. I was curious when this was, I know timing is crucial with stripers. We catch those big stripers in the Delaware River in April and then the big ones are typically heading north in May. Also good stuff telling that guy No! Conservation is proper!
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 4 года назад
BCC Dave T Dave so if you want the best chance at some quality fishing here, obviously it’s going to differ season to season, year to year, but for example, this past year we got our first really big push of 40-50lb class fish around 1 week into June....then again 2 weeks later....we then had another massive push the last week in July. This past year was very weird though so using it as an example needs to be taken with a grain of salt. My “typical” advice for guys traveling long distances who I obviously would want to make every day count, I tell them to plan a trip for the end of June, or early July. The most optimal advice would be to check in with me when the season kicks off up here in late May and I’ve got a feel for the migration and the way things are going. That way I can give you more specific, real time advice instead of this generic shit.

Andrew Posfai haha cue the shades 😎 - so I yanked it away from a smaller fish and almost got pulled into the water from the next one. The fish had boiled the water to damn near zero visibility running mackerel onto the rocks and that fish actually hit that lure heading out from the rocks and took me completely by surprise. Nobody would ever believe catching a 40lber with your bail arm closed was legit, myself included.

Dan Evan How can I get that rod that I like?
@joefalcone5199
@joefalcone5199 3 года назад
What you’re doing is obviously working well but I’m curious as to why you don’t shake your rod that much when working pencils. I feel like I’m shaking it too much after watching your videos. Hahaha
@DanEvan
@DanEvan 3 года назад
I’ve found, especially in current, and with a properly setup pencil, that bigger fish tend to respond to subtle movements as opposed to the spastic whipping of the rod. I think just like any form of lure fishing, varying your retrieve until you find the “look” the fish want that day is so important. So I’ll occasionally throw in some spastic rod action but it’s not a consistent action I like to impart.

Howdy from Florida. We've some nice fishing here & the mullet run happening. I still have never caught a striper & have reached 62 yrs of age. On my bucket list is to ravel up there & do it while still able. Is this area accessible to the public ? Trying to decide between Mass & NY to get this done. If don't run out of $$ maybe I can do both. Funds for traveling low,but will figure it out some how. Nice video. TYVM jimmyg
