The Japanese Zero was far better then anything any of the allies had but once the American production industry got reved up we was producing far more planes then the Japanese could shoot down which eventually lead to US winning the skies. It is a mix of both its almost like the chicken and the egg. But far as the F 35 people do not understand what the plane is made for. Yes this thing had problems with its tech as do all new things. You must remember this is the 1st of its kind and just like the REAL F 35 pilot said the only reason YOU know about the problems is because of social media . I bet you didn't know that when the F 16 1st came out it was killing 2 people every week but there was no internet so no one ever knew. The F 35 is a 1st sight 1st kill not a hey let's go chase down a Su 25 or whatever. we're you not watching g the f16's come on stop lying or rewatch.😂😂😂 I've seen the f35 perform 3 times and the f16 much more including f-18 f15 and the f22. seen every us fighter fly In us airshows.and let me tell you the f35 is by far the least maneuverable. not as bad as some people say thought. it generally keeps its enegery moving in a turn ( speed high ) but an f16 will run circles around it if we're talking g's/ turning rate / change of directon and ability to keep it's energy. however there is no denying it is by far the most advanced multi-role fighter in the air today.

Even after 40 years the F16 still looks modern. I was at Leeuwarden to have a look at the F35. Not as beautiful as the F16. But then it took off.....almost vertical up into the sky. Like some sort of special kind of bat. I know the F16 is easily capable of doing the very same thing. But the F35 looked menacing and powerfull. The simulated air attacks were awesome never seen such a thing before. Three years on we finally have our first F35 permanently at home. It will take a couple of years before all of them have arrived. Sadly there will be another Airshow saying farewell to the last F16. She will have seen like 45 years of service. There must have been many hundreds of pilots flying her. I envy them!

People complaint a lot about noise nuisance up here,since the 35 has taken over.But they are lucky,that the choice hasn't been falling on the Eurofighter.Sadly they are not aware of that.This two-engined monster is even noisier and makes the airbase to an earthquake,while taking off!!!!

What about on Russian soil with their air defenses? Maybe it would be good in a defensive role, but not so good in the territory of a major player. No doubt the goat herders won't see it coming, but with Russia that would be a different story. With such an expensive piece of equipment in these days of austerity, the sales pitch has to be really good. It would be good to see it go up against the T50 in a mock fight.

+Irishandtired Nato would bot send in f35s to take out russian air defenses. They will probbably use missles and stealth bombers as first strike. After that wave fighters like the f22 and multi role fighters like the f35 will move in and take out less well protected targets.

No the F-35 has SEAD clearly stated as a mission type. The name of the game is standoff munitions, you don't send a 3 billion dollar B-2 (especially with only 20 in service) to do the job a $80 million F-35 can do, and you don't send either when a cruise missile can do it. There is not only one platform used for SEAD but future Nato and US plans rely heavily on the F-35 using it's stealth and network sensor suite with long range standoff weapons to take out enemy air defenses.

But I'd like to point out that somehow, for some reason, we are still pitting Russia against the US, or the Soviet Union vs Nato in our imaginary battles.This is a remnant idea from the cold war and in my personal opinion not relevant anymore.Chinese? Iranian? A country similar to Pakistan wielding older equipment but in large numbers? That's much more likely. There's not much logic for a confrontation between current day USA and Russia. Cheers!

Can you give us back New Amsterdam please? You know that little town we build on Manhattan that you rename to from "NEW Amsterdam" to "NEW York".... :-) Hhehehe, no just kidding. For economical standpoint of view I know why my country did the trade with England back then because Suriname was economical more viable, and nobody would have known back than what the US would become 400 years later. The country could evolve pretty quickly because of just one good solid reason: Geographic isolation.

True, but it sadly can't carry as much armament, which means the F-16 is still superior in the role the Dutch Airforce uses it's planes for most, Air Support

They're both designed to be ridiculously unstable in flight. The only thing keeping these jets stable is the fly-by-wire (computer controlled stability). The F-35 has far better onboard computers though, so it's true that it's easier for the pilot to fly.

Well i think Russia actually can design a jet that is better since the F35 has a lot of flaws. The problem Russia has is that it's a broke country with a lot of lazy and corrupted people.

+MrSkyl1ne the F35 is a new plane of course there will be problems along the way but that's normal, this plane is way more advance than anything Russia has or will have for the next 30 years, it will only get better for the F35

The F-35 is awful..and has proven to be so. The Russians just don't waste their money on developing this shit. It is infinitely more practical and cost effective to design radar and targeting systems that can track multi-billion dollar piles of junk and shoot them down. It's unknown if Russia or China have the capability to EFFECTIVELY target a modern stealth jet, but they FOR SURE can see them coming and make last minute preparations, like getting interceptors in the air. You make it sound like the U.S. has complete and total impunity. The Russians aren't as advanced, but they aren't pushovers. They'd down at least some B-2s and F-22s if they entered Russian airspace. Pretty big gamble to play with aircraft that cost $2.4B and $160M apiece (respectively)...especially considering that they know exactly how many they are dealing with (20 B-2s and 187 F-22s) Knowing the strength and how to find them once airborne is half the battle. BTW, the F-22 is fucking incredible. It's a slam dunk. The F-35 is a turd....and no matter what you do, you can't polish one of those.

Thomas Affolter We can only afford 37 of these machines as they are hugely expensive. The RNLAF wants to acquire another 15 . That is a far cry from the 213 F16’s we initially bought 40 years ago. I really hope the F35 lives up to all requirements. I saw the same display the following day. The F16’s climbed out the same way as on the video. But the F35’s elected to go almost straight up displaying its profile and I was hooked!
