Setup on anything is important. It's like owning a gun but never going to the range. At my latitude the panel angle can be 19 degrees in summer to 43 degrees in winter.

💯 agree, test your gear! I have my small solar system running a dc refrigerator in garage 24/7 for the past few years ( keeping my beverages ice cold). There are a couple inverters that run on dewalt batteries that I keep an eye on.

I purchased 4 100-watt solar panels and an EcoFlow solar power bank. I have never taken any of it out of the boxes they were shipped in - except for the EcoFlow that I discharge fully every 4 moths and recharge to 80% per the manual. So…your video is the reminder I needed to quit thinking I’ll just figure it all out when the shtf. Great content. Thank you

Hooking the panels in series would work just as well in such a small system.

My luck would be that the EMP coincidentally happens in the couple hour window that I'm testing the gear.

JJ - you've got a nice-looking place there. Only suggestion I'd make is perhaps a bale of hay with a target on it and a couple of bows for you and your boy to spend time together with.

It's weird, but for some reason, YT will frequently show me that there is a reply to one of my comments, but will not show me the comment itself when I click on it. This is one of those situations. Odd.

look at blue seas breaker if it is a dc breaker. they are a better quality. just make sure you buy a breakfer that can support your voltage and your amperage.

With regards your circuit breaker popping, just a thought (and without knowing what your battery chemistry etc is): It is possible to try to drain a battery faster than it can discharge. When that happens, you 'hit the bottom' of the available energy well, put simply. When your breaker pops, your battery has a bit of a rest during which time it 'fills the well' again. Different battery chemistries and capacities do this at different rates. A slower rate of discharge will be maintained for longer, therefore. That might not be the problem here, but it's worth a thought.

They are LifeP04 batteries each with a 100 amp BMS. I have used this same heat gun draining other similar batteries and never had an issue. At only 12.5 amps or so it’s hard to image the load is too much. But if I replace the breaker and it keeps happening I will have to look into that possibility for sure. Thanks!

JJ, 12.5 amps at 120 volts = 1,500 watts. Some say a breakers only purpose is to prevent melting wires. Some parts of the electrical code validates that claim. Long story short, be careful when replacing breakers with higher rated ones. A breaker is a lot like an emergency spillway for a pond or a crumple zone in a car. You hope you never need it and you don't change the primary spillway size just because you have backup or reinforce a crumple zone so it doesn't bend/crumple. All 3 are a planned point of failure that hopefully minimalizes damage. Improperly sized breakers can be dangerous and/or damage things. But if you do need a breaker, check with automation direct.

Yeah I hear ya. I’d like to stay with a 100 amp breaker if possible. What I was saying in the vid is that it is obvious to me that this breaker is not functioning properly because it is tripping at 12.5 amps. So either they are sized wrong or it was just poor quality control. I found one from Blue Sea systems. Which I think is a higher quality it was slightly higher at 150 amps. Again even having it on the unit at all is probably overkill to begin with. Both the BMS and the Inverters also have their own internal breakers. I just need the thing to be able to operate at its full capacity. But I do still want it to be safe of course.

How far away can the panels be from the generator when charging?
@RealitySurvival
@RealitySurvival 6 месяцев назад
All depends on the size of the PV cable. But if it is 10 AWG you should be able to get 50ft or more easily.
