Dude, I went to the midnight launch with my high school buddies back in 2011, and we all carpooled with my one friend's brother (the only one old enough to drive) who let us paint the Imperial logo on the back windshield of his car and blast the theme song the entire way there and back. If that's not sad, I don't know what is.
@@greathorn haha that's brilliant. I was living with 3 friends at the time but we only had two PlayStations and two copies of the game. There was a good week or two where I would stay up all night playing it and before I went to sleep I'd show my friend what I'd done. Then I'd go to sleep while he played all day. I'd wake up and he'd show me what he'd done before giving me the controller. Rinse and repeat. My other two friends were doing the exact same thing in a different room. Great times.
@@greathorn it's not sad at all, you were hyped for one of, if not the biggest game of the generation Props for repping the Imperials, the right choice in the civil war
Knights of the Old Republic changed everything for me. It was one of the first games where I got to travel around and it's the game that made me realize it's all about the story for me.
Damian FitzGerald ~ Ditto!! True IV me as well!! Even thou I am now totally PlayStation i still own my pc copies of KOTOR & KOTOR II the Sith Lords....
For me, it was Mass Effect 3, for pretty much the same reasons I think... I played KotOR much later because ME made me realise how much I loved that type of game. (Yeah, I know ME3 wasn't the best in the series but it introduced me to that world and the gameplay was solid), it led me to play the other 2, then Dragon Age, then Kotor and even Baldurs Gate.
Shadow of the Colossus. It showed me a new dimension of gaming that I never considered. A far deeper approach between player and game that reshaped my view about what games have to offer. First it was the interaction between the avatar and the colossus. I never even considered climbing in my first encounter and the shear scale of them and how fragile wanderer moved. It felt like an impossible task. Shadow of the Colossus is the reason behind some of my favourite games of all time like Dark souls, Dragon's Dogma, Devil May Cry, Last Guardian, The Last of Us, Journey, etc. All these game entered my life because one game taught me to tackle unsurmountable challenges, develop new solutions to devastating challenges, and see stories, mechanics, and architecture through a different lense that makes me appreciate even the most minuet of details. Seriously one of the best games to ever exist and one that changed gaming ever since its inception. (Arguable Ico is even more impactful but Colossus took a different approach to scale and both of their concepts combined would eventually forge the now brilliant Last Guardian.)
Elder scrolls 3 morrowind. I had finally saved up enough money to buy my first Xbox and only had enough money for 1 game. I was at Best Buy and I remember I picked up the game and looked at the back for about 30 seconds and was drawn to it for whatever reason. Bought it and sunk hundreds of hours into it. For me it outclasses oblivion and Skyrim in how you can explore the world. If you knew where to go you could find amazing weapons and armor right when you start. Items weren’t leveled to your character. There was a noble lady that if you could pickpocket at a low level, you could get her vault key and have access to glass or ebony armor early, as well as gold and treasure. For me, the feeling of exploring a random cave and accidentally finding a unique weapon or item hidden in a behind a random trough (the fists of randagulf) made exploring random caves worth it. Or just walking around and finding a random character interaction with no quest marker and getting a unique item such as the boots of blinding speed or the scrolls of Icarian flight made that game experience so unique. Everyone who is an elder scrolls fan should play it. Beware of the dated combat system however. And the damn cliff racers 🤬
The Mass Effect series. Among other things it completely changed my view on shooter games and showed me that they also can have a touching story and aren't all about just mindlessly shooting at everything in sight.
For me it was Persona 5 cause there are only some games that I get really obsessed with and play it as much as I can and Persona 5 was no exception. It also made me fall in love with jrpgs and I’ve played more of them since then.
Skyrim is what sprang to mind. I bought Oblivion at the beginning of 2011 because I wanted so badly to experience the Elder Scrolls series. Enjoyed what I played of Oblivion for a number of months, and then I got Skyrim for Christmas that year. I'm not sure I've played any game as much as I played Skyrim. Socially, it was everywhere! Everyone was playing the same game but having their own crazy experiences in that world. It's been seven years, but there still hasn't been a game quite like it.
Borderlands was epic. Everybody would bash it for its lack of graphic quality, i automatically assume they didnt REALLY play it. The humor and references are perfect.
Agreed. I didn't play it myself, due to not having a PS, but I sure heard about how movie-like it was. I remember a non-RPG having as much plot as that being somewhat unheard of.
@@PhirePhlame If you have a PS3 it's only $5 I'd recommend it it's not tank controls like Resident Evil so it can still be learned and feel as smooth as top down RPGs of today.
Dark souls for me. My friend showed it to me after DS3 came out and warned my I would become obsessed. After about 2 or so hours of frustration he was right. Potentially my favourite series of all time
Brandon Hannah I tried doing that, but I've found there's a big difference between making a game harder by adjusting some sliders or turning some dials and a game that's designed to be challenging from the start.
I remember getting it for Christmas, and someone telling me you're not gonna study for your A levels. Well, they were right. It was such a wonderful experience tho.
No way! Rob had a cowboy boot phase? Rob you are by far a national treasure, every piece of information we learn about you makes you so much funnier and more interesting hahah
Got a bit unnerved when Nath was talking about his entry because no one else spoke from 4:53 to 7:19. I was watching it and genuinely wondering if Nath was just in the room on his own, not actually talking to anyone and he was just pretending he was 😂😂😂
@@FahmiMandela Don't do that please. That's ridiculous Spider-Man 2 created that dodge and fluid counter attack way back on PS2 that the PS4 version enhanced for Spiderman again of course Rocksteady modernized it and gave it weight and better flow for Batman and they should be congratulated but Spider-Man 2 had the Spidey sense like dodge and counters with extra moves thing first.
@Sir Galahad thank you but I am waiting for yakuza 3, 4 and 5 remakes to come out first. I will eventually get to 6. BTW if you like new Japan pro wrestling. Kiwami 2 has Easter eggs in certain parts of the game.
@Sir Galahad I read about that but I would like to play though the entire story before 6 and I don't have a PS3 to get yakuza 3 because for some reason its not on psNOW while 4 and 5 are.
If someone asked me this question about what game changed everything for me 1 or 2 other games would definitely immediately pop in my head that aren’t Yakuza BUT Yakuza is right there. It’s one that popped in my head right after I thought of a couple other games and After I was midway through the video. The Yakuza series is definitely one of them. Those games are masterpieces. Unrelated but the creators of that game are making a Fist of The North Star game u should check out its supposed to be a lot like Yakuza idk if you’re a fan of the anime ( I am) but you wouldn’t have to be to really enjoy that game
Access seems to swallow all my attention, excitement, other channels and life in general. It’s just the best 😆. Keep up the fantastic work guys, you’re all amazing people ❤️
For me it has to be Final Fantasy X. Back then I was not a FF fan whatsoever. I remember playing FF VII on my friend's PS 1 and I found it dull as hell. Many random battles, limited game time since it wasn't my console, on top of that, I could barely understand English since I was like 8 or something from the Czech republic and it was all text. A few years later a PS2 magazine with demo of FF X came out. I remember being skeptical about even trying it out but thanks God I did, what a life changer! The demo took place on Besaid Island after Yuna got her first aeon Valefor. Not just you could enjoy the amazing graphics with interesting characters, summon an aeon followed by an amazing animation, listen to the great soundtrack of Nobuo Uematsu, but there was also first ever voice acting in a FF video game! I was sold right away. I played the demo over and over again and stopped playing everything else. I became obsessed with it and once the game came out I immediately got my copy and started to work on my English in order to understand its story. It was funny because when I attended English lessons at primary school I didn't know some of the simple vocabulary but knew things like potion, sword, battle, armor, guard... you name it. I listened to its soundtrack every day and every night before sleep. I stopped hanging out with my friend because I simply wanted to play more and more eventually ending up with definitely more than 1000h played on multiple playthroughs combined. Because of this game not only I started to like English and ended up learning it to a very good level, but it eventually also gave me the opportunity to move abroad, experience life in Canada and currently the UK. I have played almost all the FF games and other JRPGs which became my favourite game genre. I have been to many orchestras, saw Nobuo Uematsu on stage, experienced countless emotions, shed many tears, found a Japanese gf during my stay in Canada to whom I started to randomly talk on a night bus about FF X completely wasted... and I could go on. So yeah, thanks Squaresoft and FF X for changing my life!
Well mine has to be oblivion.. it was my first ever open world game that I played till 100%...I think ....I was so bloody baffled by its massive world and that ridiculous amount of quests... kept playing and playing on my pc and with mods it never ended haha
Justin Vetha Same, that feeling when u get out the sewers and realize how much freedom and open it is is something I’d never experienced in my life and still have yet to. It was just mind boggling for me and really made me fall in love with games
Witcher 3 changed my life. Turned me into a geek when I was 32yo. Never heard of the Witcher before that. Now my home is covered with posters, statues, art books, Witcher swords, and so on and so on.
For me it'll always be Resident Evil 4. The first action game I remember watching my dad play and thinking wow, "what film is this?". Nope it was a survival horror masterpiece which I'll always love because of how advanced it was for the time.
Ahh, RE4, love that game. My family used to have a tradition of renting horror movies every weekend and once my aunt got a PS2 we use to play RE4 which tied in with our whole motif. Definitely top 5 influential games in my life.
I had a lot of small games that ended up influencing me, but the first one i remember made me play videogames almost every day, was Pokemon Red for the original Gameboy. I got the game on release day, when it came out in 1998 in europe, and i was just 11 at the time. I wasn't used to having friends, outside of a few kids around my block. I had very little to do during my school time when not in class, so i started bringing my gameboy to school, so i could play during our breaks. A few other kids got curious at what i was playing, and when i told them, they suddenly started rambling on about how they LOVED the games too, and we should all play together! I eventually ended up playing with them every day, thanks to a, at the time, fairly unknown game... Another influential game for me was Mass Effect 2. I didn't get to play 1 until the collection came out for PS3 AFTER ME3 was released, but i played the HELL out of ME2! There are really no complicated reasons why i loved this game so much, it was the first serious action game i ever played that didn't have a saturday morning cartoon feel (like Ratchet and Clank), and it was the game that introduced me to my first ever actual waifu i got really attached too: My sweet girl Tali... The most recent games that stole my life is a mix between Persona 5 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2... Both are games i have played well over 700 hours each, and have no intention to stop playing anytime soon...
Gotta 100% the game while romancing all the waifus. One per playthrough of course! XC2 actually does grates on me a little bit to be honest... There is only so many times i can hear "Yer dun!" and "Don't forget me!"... I tolerate the small annoyances because i love the gameplay, music, characters and story. I can also do a nuzlocke type of challenge in XC2, where i can NEVER change who has a certain blade after unlocking one, and i can only get one for each chapter i complete. So if i get nothing but healing blades on Rex, too bad, i guess he's the healer then for that playthrough! If a character fall in battle, the blade they had equipped at the time is considered dead, and must be changed out with another blade. I also can't use Rexs late game ability to equip every blade, and can only use blades he has on himself. Let me tell you, going against Malos at the end, with nothing but two generic blades on Rex and the rest of my squad was probably the hardest thing i ever did in the game. Tora works a bit differently, as his blades can't be changed, but here the setup on the blade he has is the limiting factor. If he falls in battle, whatever setup i had on the equipped Poppi must be disgarded, and i can never use those parts again, including whatever element she has equipped...
@@skynet091287 that does sound fun in XC2 though made me want to buy a switch for it. P5 is an amazing game I loved the 40 hours i put into it. Even started again on hard because i wanted to romance all the girls and try to beat the twins. I will say morgana telling me i had to sleep and such is the annoying part of the game for me
I eventually figured out how Morgana works, and it made it a bit easier on me... Basicly, if you are not activly doing a palace (the game shows you a hard deadline), and the game makes you do some story bits during the day between targets, you won't be able to do anything during the evening 99% of the time. Once in a blue moon, you will be able to use the workbench in your room, but this is a rarity... If you DO play P5 again, i would highly recommend trying out Merciless difficulty, as it's both easier AND harder than Hard in many regards. You will get almost no XP or money from battles, so grinding a lot is both hard, time consuming and a necessity (even the Reaper flu trick takes a bunch of time), but technical hits and critical hits do 3X normal damage to both you and enemies... It can be very frustrating, but once you do it, it's the best feeling in the world!
Man for me it has to be Skyrim, I say that not only because it's good but because I've brought it 4 times now. once for ps3, once for ps4, AGAIN for pc, and then i HAD to get the ps vr one.
Just like Rob, once again, I feel the same way about Red Dead. I wasn't very much interested in westerns, but after playing the game, I wanted all things western!
I don't know who the fella talking about Skyrim is, but I am the same in regards to Dragon Age and now in particular when I'm desperate for news about the fourth game...
METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER. I can vividly remember devouring MGS2 (it was my first introduction to the franchise, I admittedly never played the first one), and the lead up to Snake Eater was massive. I even begged my mum to take me up town to get my hands on the Official Playstation Magazine with a massive feature on the game before it came out, and played the demo disc repeatedly until that Christmas, when my folks got it for me. I was absolutely ecstatic. I devoured every little detail of that game, it's still my favourite game of all time. I still have the magazine kicking around somewhere, in it's camouflage foil I opened carefully to preserve it.
Final Fantasy 7 was the game for me... I remember being in the 7th grade in 1997 watching the trailer and that's when I began my plot to convince my parents I needed a PlayStation. I was more of an entrepreneur and manipulative little brat at 13 than I've ever been in my life cause I needed that game. I remember convincing my parents we should have a yard sale. And when I finally got my Playstation I got FFVII and my Dad bought The NASCAR game of that year at the same time. We got home and he played a 200 lap race on a track that was a circle that lasted almost 2 hours while I waited for my turn... Then he told me to go to bed when he was done and I had to sneak out to play for at least 30 mins. I remember turning off the system and then playing all day the next day until I made it out of Midgar only to find out I needed a memory card. I must have played that area 4 times before finally getting one. But that game totally changed how I looked at games.
God of War 1 for me. Saw it announced on Cybernet back in the day, made me buy a PS2 console after 3 months of having bought the game, just reading the leaflet and rewatching my VHS Cybernet recording, imagining the game running, facing off with the Hydra. Ever since I was hooked, March 2005.
I thought your destiny story was a sad one Dave, due to you not being able to play it, but it turned out to be a nice love story, thank you for sharing it ☺️☺️
Modern Warfare 2, for me! Such a pivotal game in my gaming life... It literally felt like everybody was talking about it at every moment for the entire year or so. Also, one of the first games I watched RU-vid content on too.
Uncharted Drake's Fortune I was a young teen and I thought games were in either one of two categories, Fun kid stuff or Hardcore Edgy Grown up games (admitably, most games in early to mid 2000's generally fit those categories) However, upon seeing all the reviews and trailers and seeing how cinematic Uncharted was, drew me to it. I saw other games attempt to tell stories but Uncharted was the first one I saw that did it in such a bombastic and easily approachable manner.
(Edit: I must add a 5th game. Horizon Zero Dawn. Nothing in gaming since I was a kid has captivated me like that game. It’s truly amazing. I cannot wait for the next installment. That game is a world changer in gaming I believe. ) 4 games that changed everything for me were as follows: first one, 1993... King’s Quest VI. I know it’s not playstation, but since ps has the KQ collection now, I feel it’s ok. KQ VI was I think the first full on big project cd rom game I ever played. Huge part of that time of my life. It was a family experience we all played together and it was awesome. Then on PS, FF VII, which was 4 discs! Massive. Hundred plus hours easy. That one as well as the next one need no explanation... Metal Gear Solid. MGS was like a spy/action movie you could play, and I fell in love with the series forever after that. Lastly... Assassin’s Creed. The reason I bought a PS3. My cousin had it on Xbox 360, and I played it for like 45 minutes. Blown away. First time I saw visuals like that in a game, and the story and history weaved in were top notch at the time. Then AC 2 came and really changed everything, turning up the everything to eleven. AC was my intro into hd gaming. Another series I have stayed with for every new game up until now unfortunately. I liked origins a lot, but it was missing something for me. Something about it just didn’t feel like AC. Now Odyssey, which I haven’t played yet, and is probably a great game, but the series has morphed into something different and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’ll get it, because I’m collecting the series, but... We’ll see.
Tomb Raider 2013 was the one that did it for me.... I was always a gamer and i played the original ones back in the day so much fun then they were quiet for a long time, then i stumbled upon this game.... played it on repeat thrice. So much fun.
Metal Gear Solid, such characters, such story telling. I had not experienced anything like it beforehand and it gave me an interesting and complex series to devour. So many memories created because of this game.
I was like 12 when Skyrim came out and i did not think much of it, but my friend got it and when I got the game it absolutely changed the way I viewed video games.
A game that changed the way I evaluate games, is Marvel's Spider-Man. I can certainly say, that this was the most long-awaited game for me. To answer how I feel about the game, I like it, but never have I tried to be so critical of a game.
Metal Gear Solid has to be one of my early massive games which seemed so different to most other games at the time. Later maybe Fallout 3 was my first big WRPG with its big open world, karma system, different ways of solving missions was a great experience.
For me it was Fallout 3, it made me fell in love with RPG's which made me want to keep playing that genre. It was the base to nowadays love games live Witcher, mass effect, Skyrim, dragon age, etc.
Infamous changed my world because; I'm autistic as such the world hurt me a lot growing up. So I spent most of my adulthood never giving people in the world a chance to hurt me again. Then I played INFAMOUS 1 and INFAMOUS 2 as Cole of course. Helping the people and being thanked by them. Seeing people be thankful for help, good, nice, respectful and supportive encouraged me to trust people more than I ever had & ever could before. I was afraid but Infamous taught me to attempt embracing society and most importantly I let good people in society embrace me back. Before my playing Infamous 1 & 2 I would have said humans were incapable of goodness or thankfulness. COLE, CHANGED MY WORLD FOREVER!
Final Fantasy 7 for me. As a teenager back in the 90's with a Playstation, I always kept hearing about FF7 but never gave it a shot. Then one day after I got my twenty dollars allowance, I was going through the Greatest Hits games at Walmart. I saw it and figured "Why the hell not?". It just opened a massive door for me, I couldn't get enough JRPGs I went back over the years and grabbed the classics, the Persona series, every FF game, Chrono Trigger, Suikuden, Xenogears and much more. It even influenced me to get into Western RPGs. And it was all due to Final Fantasy 7.
Mine was "Guitar Hero", as I played it so often and various iterations from Aerosmith to World Tour. Though I moved onto *Rock Band.* I couldn't get enough of the rhythm games for many years. It opened me to all kinds of music and new ways of playing with friends and strangers.
regarding RDR, and westerns, i think they should make a ronin or wuxia version; the spaghetti westerns were based on older "lone samurai" movies; you wouldn't need to give them superhuman abilities or anything, just, you have a sword, you go around saving the day or alternately making everyone else's day worse, that sorta moral choices thing
Dark Souls 1 and Skyrim came out around the same time and absolutely absorbed my life in late high school. I have some very very fond memories of exploring those worlds for the first time and getting those new experiences back-to-back constantly for several months. It changed my understanding of games as a hobby and, eventually, what my career would be.
I’ve played loads of RPG’s in my life but the one that changed everything for me was the Witcher 3, first of all it helped me through a hard time in my life and every single RPG that I’ll play that is anything like the Witcher 3 I can’t help compare them. I can’t tell you how many hours I have on the Witcher 3.
DAVE! Destiny came out 2 weeks before I met my girlfriend so I feel you brother. Fortunately, she was obsessed with My Singing Monsters on her phone at the time, so she understood the grip games can have on you. Destiny has been my gaming life almost exclusively since day 1 and she used to describe herself as a Destiny Widow, but now we live together and all is cool. She's very understanding of the hobby and actively encourages me to take time off when new DLC comes out. Take a week off for Forsaken, you say? Sure, if you say so!
Demon’s Souls was it for me. The perseverance that it instilled in me lead me to go on and train and push through in medicine and become a paramedic. I remember in paramedic school thinking this is tough and started comparing it to the penetrator demon, my hardest boss, and telling myself if I could beat him after days of working his move set out I could beat anything I set my mind to. Yes like everything the later games are better technical achievements and better delivery of the narrative but for Demon’s Souls changed my entire life.
I was obsessed with Skyrim as well, despite having to restart my game many times hue to a breaking bug that ruined my progress, but every time i would do more and get further along, discover new places etc. I still love the dungeon''s and other unique locations.
Chrono Trigger. I rented it from a local video store and fell in love. I didn't get a chance to finish it and then the store went out of business and I went in during their liquidation sale but it was already gone. It was a year or two later until I could find a copy for sale. My favorite game to this day.
Yeah i played that game all the way several times. It has multiple endings, and the story and gameplay is so much fun. It definatly needs a ps4 showing.
the original Bioshock is the game that really changed me, I was terrified of playing it alone, having never played an FPS or horror game before (if you care to call Bioshock a horror), so I got my best friend to play it with me at my house, I made her go first, and after about ten minutes she threw the controller at me in terror. We were both very wimpy lol. It turned out to be one of my favourite games of all time. Just such a fantastic experience that I will never forget. Having been raised pretty poor, not having many games other than secondhand Pokemon cartridges, that was one of the first games I bought for myself, alongside Portal.
Final Fantasy 7 is my all time favorite but the game that started my love for rpgs is Phantasy Star for sega master in 1988. Before that i had 6 years with Atari 2600 and every game was on how many points could you get before you died. With Phantasy Star the first thing that blew me away was being able to save your progress and continue where you left off. And leveling up and getting new spells, weapons and armor, and getting other party members...all of those were new experiances for me. Most growing up now would take all that for granted and wonder why anybody would make a big deal out of it. But for those that grew up gaming in the early 80's would understand.
Uncharted 4 changed everything for me, I haven't stopped playing games since, and I've been playing what I missed that came before it including the first 3 games and The Last of Us.
Super mario galaxy, jumping from crash bandicoot on ps1 to mario on wii was amazing. The graphics gave 7 year old me so much enjoyment, then came along halo reach, then came cod bo1
Okay it’s not a PlayStation game but it changed my life: Granny’s Garden. If you grew up in the 80s and remember playing that on the floppy discs at school, you are a legend!!!!! That game taught me that I love puzzles, I love stories and that you could enjoy both on a computer screen as well as with pen and paper. I was hooked on the concept of computer games after that 😍
Yesterday, Oct. 15th, 2018 i finally bought my very 1st brand new PS4 slim (1TB) @ my local GameStop!!!! I still have my PS3 slim, named Bazinga(TBBT!!!!)!!! I also bought along w/my PS4 the games Horizon Zero Dawn *complete edition* & Uncharted the Nathan Drake collection!!!! The next 4 games I am buying r Assassin's Creed Syndicate (on my brother's request as he doesn't yet have a PS4, of course i luv the AC series as well ~ except 4 Rogue....), Mass Effect Andromeda deluxe edition, Spyro reimagined trilogy & Uncharted 4 A Thief's End!!!! PlayStation is the BEST & ur channel ROCKS!!!! U r all Awesome, especially Rob & Hollie (Special Hey 2 u both)!!!! Keep powering on Access Team....ur the GR8est!!!!!
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater = it was the first time I ever cried from a video game (that ending still gets me); it was also the first time I realized that games could be just as emotional as movies.
Genre defining: Mario bros, Zelda 64, Final fantasy 7, Resident evil & Silent hill, Grand theft auto 3, The edler scrolls morrowind/oblivion), Minecraft, metal gear, Halo, World of warcraft, Demon souls/darksouls, Witcher, age of empires.......... Nowdays everything is just action with slight RPG elements -_-
I have 3 potential answers. 1. Spyro the Dragon. First game I ever played and I still ocassionally play that trilogy. So beautiful. 2. Minecraft. I don't think I need to say anything about that. 3. Final Fantasy XV. I'm not rich. I was always at least a generation behinf everyone else. I had a PS1 when everyone else had a PS2, then I had a PS2 when everyone else had a PS3, etc. I skipped the PS3 entirely because by the time my parents could afford a new console for me the PS4 was already near the end of its life, so I got that instead. (This was back in mid-2017.) FFXV was the first game I played on my new PS4. It showed me what a modern game was capable of, and that I now had the power to be in it. FFXV gets a lot more shit than I think it deserves. It's got flaws, but it's still incredible. I played it once, and now I wait for the final DLC before I play it again. FFXV is a great welcome card to the modern age of gaming.
I was actually unemployed when Skyrim came out so I spent a good portion of my food budget for that month buying the game on release. A friend was worried and said "But what are you going to eat?" to which I replied "There is food in the game, I can live on that." Ok so I mostly survived on bread and two minute noodles but hey, Skyrim was awesome so it was worth it ;)
For me the game that changed everything was the first Ultima Underworld by Looking Glass. Sure it looks dated now because it is. But it was one of the most amazing 3d worlds I'd seen. Bear in mind that 3D was well an truly in its infancy here (This was the same year Wolfenstein 3D came out). Other 3D worlds were essentially flat horizontal planes as far as movement was concerned. Underworld had slopes and curved surfaces. I remember dropping a potion on the ground and being surprised as it rolled down hill, rolled up the slope on the other side a little then came back down again before losing momentum and settling at the lowest point of the curve. It was the first time Id seen a game try and apply things momentum and inertia and it was eye opening. I owned an Amiga at the time but within a couple of weeks Id bought my first PC and Looking Glass remained a firm favourite studio. They followed with amazing titles like Underworld 2, System Shock and Thief the Dark Project. So yeah, thanks to Ultima Underworld I bought my first PC.
For me it was Breath of Fire 4 on PS1. It was the first game I ever played that was story based, and also the first jrpg I had ever played. That game completely changed my perception of video games, and it made me obsessed for years trying to find EVERY video game with a good story. I went from being a non-gamer who only occasionally played video games, to spending most of my free time every day playing video games. Btw, it's still a really good game, and I still recommend it if you enjoy jrpg's. I'm pretty sure it's on the US ps store.
Skyrim is probably that game for me. Played that it all the time. I had already played oblivion and remember my young mind being baffled by the the fact that Skyrim’s map would be way bigger. Then after a long time of playing it on Xbox I learnt about all the mods you get on PC and I was amazed by that too. Still in my top 5. Arkham asylum is another one as it probably is one of the big reasons I got into comic books and batman.
I don’t know if you guys have ever experienced this: You played the game, you didn’t really like it but it was like “Okay, good game”... Then you dropped it for a while and one day it was like “Hey, I haven’t played that one much”, and you came back and you realize that game was fantastic, it “kick off” in your... second 1st time. I don’t know if this can be an idea for your next Tuesday checklist. It was the Witcher 3 for me. And yes, it also changed everything for me. I still love it, best game of all time for me.
Happened to everyone at some point I think, especially when some games release on the same window time, you start one, but like a few days later a HUGE one comes out and you waited for so long that you have to bench the other one for a while, sometimes even month. Like for example I got yakuza kiwami 2 this summer, and spiderman released early September so it's there waiting, now that rdr 2 is around the corner, he's gonna stay a while longer ^^
Well, I found my case to be way funnier when I dropped Witcher 3 for Arkham Kniht- because I'm a Batman fan. And ya, I had finished it even before the patch came out (on PC). So I was really choosing a hard time for myself.
2 games had the biggest impact in my gaming life : Metal Gear Solid & The Mass Effect Trilogy Before MGS, I played video games but that was just a hobby, nothing more. Then I played MGS in 1998 and that game blew my mind. I know it has been said numerous times but it really is an incredible game with so much originality, new ideas, ingenious gameplay. After MGS, I became a gamer. Then several years later came the Mass Effect series: I wasn’t a big fan of the RPG genre but I kept hearing how good that franchise was so when the trilogy came out on PS3, I thought « why not? ». And everything changed. I could not believe how close I felt to these characters. I was exploring space with friends! I became obsessed, still am actually: I play the trilogy every year on the N7Day, that is the law. 😁
The Saboteur. A true masterpiece, Imagine an Assassins Creed game set in WWII, then sprinkle in some GTA and Far Cry and that Is The Saboteur. The Most underrated game of all time.
I just want that you guys to know at access are by far the greatest Channel on RU-vid I don't subscribe to anybody else and I'll be honest knowing that the Tuesday checklist and the Friday feature come out each week are a lot of times the only thing that gets me through the mundane droll of the week I love you guys and I wish you could make a video every single day thank you guys so much for truly giving me something to look forward to after a hard day of pouring concrete I love you guys
I preordered Skyrim and got it a day early... Wasn't even smug, I felt like I deserved it. I forced so much hype into my face that the wait was painful... That's a lesson for kids. Scream as loud as you want and you will get it... 👍
Zoo Tycoon was the very first game that I specifically wished for and I loved it to bits. Heroes 3 was the best game my dad, rip, ever gave me and I play it to this day. Titan Quest was the game I spend hours and hours on end playing with my younger brother after we had been through a rough time in our lives. Red Dead Redemption was the first game I specifically bought a console (Xbox 360) for with my own savings. Skyrim was the first open world rpg I ever played and I still enjoy traversing that world with a cup of tea and some snacks on cold winter days. World of Warcraft was the first and only MMO I tried and I still enjoy playing it with the many friends that I have made in that world. The Witcher 3 was the one game I bought a PS4 for and it was well worth it. There are many more games that I have thoroughly enjoyed of course, but all of the above were milestones for me.
For me....well...Lego Batman 2. It opened the door into gaming for me. After that came Minecraft. Then, GTA. After that...Fallout and Skyrim. And today, RDR, Roblox, Far Cry and much more!
Also i know it is not a PlayStation game, but my 1st game (was on pc) that was massive IV me @ the time & changed everything IV me in gaming was KOTOR....(i also had my purple Nintendo GameCube b4 my PS3, never had a PS1 or 2, could only play PS when i visited my cousin & Spyro was my 1st PS game & i LUV dragons 2 this day) & then i finally got my PS3 (the 1 i still have 2 this day & still play on it frequently) & the very next massive game IV me (which was a PS3 game) that changed everything once again was Skyrim (Legendary edition) & it was jaw dropping spectacular mind blowing beautiful & incredible!! Skyrim was the 2nd game i played on my PS3 ~ Diablo III ultimate evil edition was actually 11st b4 Skyrim, but Skyrim was absolutely amazing & epic!!
Myself ~ P.S. Then right on the heels of Skyrim (even thou came out b4, but i playd Skyrim 1st) came & was Mass Effect & it took me right back 2 the days when I playd KOTOR practically non-stop IV weeks & months.... Mass Effect trilogy quickly became 1 of my fav games & series ever & the trilogy is still in my top 5 favs 2 this day & is the perfect game IV my Star Wars loving heart n soul!!!!! Also after the Mass Effect games I found the Dragon Age games w/my favs being Inquisition & Origins ultimate edition!!!!
Honestly I think it was Skyrim for me. At the time I'd never played anything with such a big, immersive open world and I loved it. It goes to show how great the game is that it's still a top selling game all these years later. On a side note: I feel like Rob has talked about his cowboy boots before in a previous video.
This quite hard for me to pick as played so many games have changed my life and more reasons than another and as I think back all those games and consoles have owned and played one of them was my ps3 which I still play however it no longer works online sadly as it gave a lot joy able to play things and I have played so many over the years but there's always brings me back it has to be oblivion elder scrolls 4 well quite few things stood out for me particularly the voice acting, beautiful scenery as sometimes when I played I never wanted to do any of quests just admire the beauty of game as wondering all around speaking people, picking the locks on chests but that tricky unless you knew what your were doing and sometimes I had bad habit of stealing things that were not mine to take and occasionally got sent to jail paid my fine and off i went to do something and how could I not often asked myself and above all else the wonderful score by Jeremy soule who creates the most unforgettable soundtracks ever made as he is john williams of gaming like he done for all games and another brings to mind elder scrolls 3 which to shame I have never had pleasure as that on old X box and I wish I could as that soundtrack is breathtaking as well and now I feel need to replay those games again and I do love skyrim as well and what I picked there so many others but elder scrolls always brings me back I can't wait see what next one will be 😊 and one other which was other game changed things for the last guardian it a emotional roller coaster ride mixed emotions and it had me in tears as seeing trico in pain and wanting to help him to take those spears out where he had been hurt and nail biting parts of both boy and trico jumping to highest points to get where to get to next and horror warriors what try stop you grab you from getting any further and then trico could take then out but you destroy that horrible deadly force trico is afraid of and it had almost got to end then my game glitches on me screen froze I couldn't I had start all again
