Protein Tip: To determine if a product has enough protein versus calories, add a zero to the end of the protein listed and if it comes close to, equal to or over the calories, it's a good protein source.

So I save the bags and twisty ties from Sprouts, and the spice bags, and reuse them and then transfer the contents into their jars at home. My husband and I will split a package of the noodles from Costco and add a bunch of stuff to it and that makes a quick dinner for us - we always keep a box in the freezer.

One thing to be mindful of is sodium. A new study just came out talking about longevity and sodium intake with regard to heart disease. I know that when I have too much sodium, I can easily gain 8-10 pounds in water weight in a couple days, which for me is 5-6% of my weight. I try to keep my sodium below 1,500 mg per day.

The size of your grocery stores blew me away! They're huge. Whew. Have you tried any of those lentil psyllium husk breads? I make a recipe from the Power Hungry blog called "High Protein Lentil Bread". It's a very easy and adaptable recipe. You might like it.

I got this video as a suggestion from RU-vid, and I had to check it out and you got a new subscriber 😊 I try to eat low calorie density with a good amount of protein in it to. I love tofu and seitan (yes I am a vegan 😅🐾🌱) so I eat some of that myself 😂 I can actually recommend to add some protein powder in your Greek yogurt 😊 I do that and I also add a little amount of chia seeds that I have in a container in the fridge with water. For the absorption you should have it in water before eating it, and it really expands and a little goes a really long way. I love the thick texture of the mixture of some protein powder and the chia seed mixture in the yogurt and I add some berries on top. (I also add some maple or caramel sugar free sweetener in it) Some of my favorite foods 😂😊❤ Thank you for sharing! Love from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴

KOS makes a great vegan protein powder. i use their mint chocolate with some frozen bananas to make some nice cream. i recently ordered their birthday cake and it was gritty to me but i hadnt had an issue with the other flavors

Thanks so much, very interesting... Shopping with you two looks fun. We get ours delivered, fresh stuff from Tesco - and some shelf stable things from Amazon. The variety of vegan brands in the US is so much broader, and the packaging much brighter than ours - plus there aren't many places which allow for bulk self service in my area, nothing like what you guys have. I hope it will come...

I know it is more food prep, but have you ever tried making vegan jerky? I love the recipe for Epic vegan jerky by Vegan Blueberry. Just google it. I buy the soy curls bulk and store in a cool dry place and they last for months. I also only add 1 Tbsp oil instead of the 1/4 cup of oil. I do 4x/recipe and spread it out on 2 baking sheets. I then freeze half and keep other half in fridge. They get eaten up pretty quickly. I bet Lex would love them and more affordable and less packaging. I also like making seitan from scratch. I use the recipes from the Doesnt taste like chicken site. I have not seen those mushroom steaks/carne asada...will look for those. Going higher protein has definitely made my weekly shopping more expensive, so making more from scratch where I can.

Great food haul. Like the idea of preparing your tofu. Just wondering does your Costco sell "Leanfit organic plant based protein powder". Here they have both chocolate and vanilla flavors . There is no oil in it. Might want to use this protein powder as your back up.

I wish we had Sprouts in the Midwest. I miss when Whole Foods had nutritional yeast in their bulk section. My Costco rarely has tofu. 😢

Enjoyed your video. Wish we had a Costco nearby. We did just get a sprouts and we love it! Would love to know the brand of your protein bread. Tried the Meati and liked the chicken cutlet but unfortunately the third time I ate it I got violently ill.. Glad your experience has been better. Keep up the great recipes!

LOL. Thats like 4 stores! I’m tired after one! We hit up Whole Foods and then get some stuff at Frys. Occasional hash brown run at Sprouts and we do not have a Costco membership, probably cause there is only 2 of us. I’m intrigued by Eat Meati and Evolved white chocolate (where did you get that one?) thanks for doing this video, I can tell you were getting tired in the end. Tell Tim to stop focusing on all the micronutrients, I feel like he feels he needs to justify his choices with micronutrients sometimes. All whole foods are good for us.

Tim is all about the micronutrients. I think he goes down a rabbit hole sometimes with that stuff. We got the Evolved white chocolate at whole foods. They had a whole line of that brand there. We are going to make that NY Super Fudge chunk in the next few days so I will let you know how that turns out. Many times, I have Tim do grocery shopping becuase it is just too much for me. Like you, after one store, i'm done. I also cause us to take longer because we always run into parents and students.

At Sprouts, at what point do you have them weigh the empty bottle? Because if you’re checking out then how have you brought the spice over if you’re not using the little bags? Do you have them weigh the empty bottles when you walk in and write it on the bottle?

They weigh it as soon as you get there and put a piece of tape on it with the weight so then you can go fill it out and the just charge you for the difference.

Love Sprouts!! 🌱 Have you guys considered making your own yogurt? It’s super easy in your Instant Pot with just 1 qt of 1 ingredient soy milk and some probiotics. Jaroudi Family has a video if you’re interested. So cheap!!

Unfortunately, no Costco or Whole Foods here. Walmart and Sprouts are options, but we also have Sam’s Club. Does anyone have opinions about Sam’s?

I shop at Sam’s Club in central Wisconsin. They are getting some vegan and organic stuff, not as much Costco that I see in the videos I watch. Nearest Costco is over an hour away but maybe I’ll have to go check it out sometime and take coolers along to transport cold items.

@@veganwildfire7522 Yes, there is such a thing as too much protein but there is a safe formula for healthy kidney function. The focus here is his view on a starch-based lifestyle as we age. Many of us have come to believe it is not for everyone; some of us are not able to maintain a healthy weight as a high carb vegan. Studies show that we need to increase our protein intake as we age, especially over 50 (sarcopenia). Many people in the plant-based community are having great success with a higher protein diet (in combination with calorie management) to drop weight. Add in weight training to maintain muscle (or build) and you have a winning plan. Joey is a superstar for sharing his experience :)

I have lots of them in my SUV, so If we are in the SUV then yes. If we are not then no. Sometimes we end up grocery shopping when we weren't planning on it.
