Scratches and missing things give it character. It says "I'm a workin truck!" 😄 ....although I admit, you expect to get SOME miles and years on it before dents, scratches and missing things start to appear.

That trailer has automatic slack adjusters. If the brakes are dragging, they may have been installed incorrectly, and they will continue to tighten too much even after you've backed them off. Or, they were installed properly but somebody did the initial adjustment too tight. Since they can't back themselves off, that would explain why they seemed to be fine once you backed them off. Aaron was following you when they were dragging. Did he see any smoke ? If he didn't, they didn't get any where near hot enough to do any damage. Be prepared for the dealership to say they're fine, no damage, and send you on your way. They're not going to put $1,000 worth of new parts on a wagon that doesn't need it. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
@Low760
@Low760 2 года назад
This, also do they have ebs on the prime mover and trailer like it's mandatory in Australia to have from 2016? If so, maybe they were working to prevent lockup.
@immike1945
@immike1945 2 года назад
@@Low760 Do you mean ABS (anti-lock braking) ? Yes, that, too, has been mandatory on all tractors and trailers for decades here.

@@immike1945 Nah its basically electronic stability control. The computers engage the brakes on the trailer to manage it wandering. Our big curtain siders found the could be like 10 kmh faster in certain corners until they started going through shoes' monthly

ive been driving 17 years, adjusting brakes is just part of the deal. if you run mountains you are required to inspect them all the time and adjust accordingly. doesnt matter the trailer is new, you should have adjusted them in the first 50 miles, check the hub oil, grease points, ect. pre delivery inspection, HA! what about your pretrip inspection?
@johnh.6822
@johnh.6822 2 года назад
Yup

as a veteran driver, you should know that self adjusters are called that for a reason. If you have to manually adjust them then you have something wrong. I've been trucking for 30 plus years. I'm constantly in the rockies. I check my brakes every pretrip, but never need to adjust them.
@JKheller19
@JKheller19 2 года назад
@@donmunro144 it's why I stick with the manuals! Forces me to always take way better looks at brake conditions and such. Thankfully enough I do lots of highway driving through some mountain passes but not supper heavy so I rarely touch my brakes... you just learn over time exactly what gear to be in while jaking down hills where you rarely use them. I need to use them for in towns than anywhere else
@donmunro144
@donmunro144 2 года назад
@Jakob Kheller I agree. I run 79-80k from Seattle to Denver on a regular basis. I won't own a truck with an automatic. My current truck has a 10 speed but my next one will be going back to the 18. I normally get 4-5 yrs out of a set of brakes. Like you said. You learn what gear to use and let the engine brake do the work.

He don't take care of nothing or is willling to put a little work in to it ahh just buy a new one. They tryed to get him on that skid steer only took a thousand off it. My uncles bought new Merritt Cattle pots and took them to a shop to check the alignment of the axles to the trailer. Most times it was off and would've chewed tires up. Sad fact but always gotta look over everything new or not.

beautiful trailer was expecting to see automatic tire inflation system on the trailer you can always deflate the tires on the tractor in the front on the trailer to give you another 6 inches of clearance also when you fuel and scale and your load is light fuel first then scale no self adjusting slack adjusters on the trailer but if you adjust them yourself release the brake and adjust them till the tight and then back them off half a turn and they adjusted perfectly was expecting you put disc brakes on it

ABOUT YOUR TRAILER BRAKE PROBLEM IN 2009 I HAD THE SAME ISSUE, FIGURED IT OUT AND IT WAS FIXED I'm posting here in hopes you might see this without getting lost in the comments. I hope this helps you! I was in a 2004 XL Classic, no modifications except a drop axle. Pulling only and always a brand new 2009 4 axle, extendable container chassis. It had ABS and helped us understand the problem. The reason I didn't get flat spots is because the ABS would keep kicking of the trlr brake. But let me tell you, the surging it did, drove me F'n nuts. I eventually cut that out of the wiring. The term that was said to me, is "crack valve pressure". It was me who eventually discovered the issue, once I knew more about how the system works. The techs all treated me like the dumb truck driver. I don't claim to know every detail of how the air system works to apply the brakes, but but I do have good basic understanding of it. Crack vale pressure refers to the pressure required to start to open the brakes air distribution valve. My trailer's valve was starting to open at 4 psi, while the truck's valve was starting to open at 7 psi. This created the same problem that you are having. Now this makes sense if you really wanted to control you braking in ice/snow conditions. But if you are a light footed in braking (I am) or gently riding your brakes down a hill, than you are using a lot more trailer brake than the rest of your trucks ability. Because your trailers brake valve is opening first and further. This in turn causes your trlr brakes to build excessive heat, which in turn causes your drums to expand, which leads to your slack adjusters to tighten even further (to compensate for the bigger drum diameter). Once the drums cool off and shrink, your brakes are now to tight. The one wheel that would occasionally stop/drag when you did the free spin in the air is a warped drum. This can happen when the drums are very hot, and then cool with the shoes putting pressure on the drum. I suppose this problem could amplify if your trlr's drums are smaller diameter than your trucks. I never pulled a trlr that had much smaller tires/wheels than the truck, like your stepdeck. Old timer told me once never set the brakes if you got the drums really hot, it will egg shape the drum.. I hope this explains it well enough. The fix for me was to get both the truck and trlr valves to open at the same time. So we had a new valve put on the trlr buy pushing it thru the warranty. I don't know much about your truck. I only today, discovered one of your videos and caught a random comment by you about your trlr brake issue. Then watched a few more videos of you discussing it. And it is exactly like my issue. I hope this helps! Blessings to you sir

I don't blame you for being pissed. A lot of people have problems like this and act like no big deal, which I think is just stupid. When you pay that kind of money your paying for reliability it kinda defeats the purpose of buying new, and like you said they should do a quality inspection before making you have to deal with issues you shouldn't have to.

They have trailer style landing gears on them so you can adjust the height of them for each trailer. They have 12 foot flat decks at the top with 20+ foot ramps to the ground.

C15 cat with c18 pistons and liners ( so 17L engine now), stage 4 head, high rev valve springs, cryo treated heatbolts, vibritech damper, compound turbos, full tilt manifold, marine cam. Should be a good everyday 900hp and crank it higher for events. New paint, front fenders, rear full fiberglass fenders, 7in exhaust, bumper, visor, and lots of lights. Next is front air ride and deck plate. I'll tune the truck myself till I find what works best

In my area you would have gotten two tickets. (That I don’t agree with). Basically the area DOT guys DEMAND the loader be secured down to the trailer. Seems few years back a guy scooping snow loaded his tractor in sub zero temps. He left it running, his lunch box (maybe tool box) somehow hit hydraulic lever, raised bucket, took out couple overhead lines. So my non started loader needs to have a chain holding attached to trailer. In case magic happens?

I had the same problem with a brand new 2017 Great Dane Everest 53’ Reefer. Usually three deep pumps of the brakes will cause the slack adjusters to do their job, but sometimes new drums and shoes need the excess heat to bed them in, and they’ll be fine. Oh mine was also from Jim Hawk trailers. Also had ten sheared off torx screws that held the stainless floor trim pieces at the back doors. GD lacked QC on that one.

As time goes by you will get experience in how an 18 wheeler feels under all situations. When a brake gets tight the free rolling changes and you will detect it when coming to a stop as the free roll is limited or gone. Up north we have brakes freeze to the drums in the winter and causes more problems than you can imagine. Good luck with all you do.

I have a swisher 60inch pull behind brush mower. I paid 800$ for it used. Around my area in Louisville Kentucky they are pretty hard to come by. You should have any issues getting 1500 for that walk behind. Hell who am I telling. Your the best tractor an mower sells man in the country.

This might be a super dumb question lol,, coasting down that hill with the exhaust brake or jake brake,, does that use any extra fuel as opposed to without and riding the brakes? (I know you don’t ever ride your brakes,, just asking from a fuel consumption point)

You are right Bruce the trailer should’ve been in top shape Especially the brakes i’m sure they will take care of you but that’s time you didn’t want to mess around with

Just some advice allways PDI your own stuff even if it's brand new. They build them and ship they don't care.
