that is called a rub rail, if your straps are on the outside and you "rub" against something you can cut your load loose, and you don't get the straps as tight in my opinion

Straps inside the rail to protect if you get side swiped you don’t loose your load. Guard protects the straps.

That was a genuinely cool thing to do giving that stuff to another trucker.

Need to run your straps inside the rub rail. D.O.T can Wright you for it. If a car or truck side swipes you it can cut the strap.

Just a courteous warning, NEVER leave your truck on a fuel line to go get food...... get your fuel, move your truck then get food...... always be courteous to other truckers.

You should get flow through valve stem caps for the truck and trailer. They make maintenance so much nicer when all 10 tires need air. Could also be really good for the tractors with leaky tires. Also, an air line with a glad hand on one end and a air fitting on the other so you can air up the tires on the truck if you need to is always a great tool to have in the combo

Sweet load. Where I’m from in Canada all Chains and straps needs to be inside the rub rails. Might be something to check into. Keep on Truckin dude!

Bruce i like the straps on the inside for safety reasons. If you rub something or a car rubs the trailer if the straps are on outside of rub rail they may get cut and cause you to loose your load. I run them inside rub rail just for the safety reason.

You can use cut up firehose to protect the straps from sharp edges.

The one reason why you put straps on inside of the rub rail is if you put it out side the rub rail will bend in

Those are always fun loads. Good job. I use 1/4 inch thick felt cut up to use as strap protectors. Don’t waste your money on the plastic ones, they’ll break the first time. We also used to take old truck or tractor tube liners and cut them up. Those work good but bulky when storing them.

Gonna need a scratch N dent section. That’s where uncle Smitty picked up aunt Gertrude.

Just a thought that the straps should be on the inside of the rail because if the straps catch something going down the road and it cuts them then your cargo can possibly fall off and I think the dot will stop you for that to

Hey Bruce; The straps should be inside the rails! The rails are there for a reason! Plus, it looks unprofessional when you go over the rails! And DOT will make you redo them if you get pulled in! Also, I used to use old straps, cut in sections and use them as strap guards! Never had a strap frayed or break using old straps!

your straps are suppose to be inside rub rail per d.o.t. regulations and also a load securment/ makes your load tighten up being on inside of rail and not as bad on straps or load ..love the videos and the new equipment you have im a huge fan been following you for a long time keep up the great work ..god bless..

If you look in the back of your rims? It will say 7175 alloy. I used to work where about 60 percent of your parts are made. That was fun place to work at.

Bruce it's just good to have you back on the channel and as far as you're strapping down goes you're better to go on the inside of the rail you'll get the maximum strength out of your straps and yes you definitely need to invest in some strap protectors and like the one other comment said go to a fire station see if they get rid of old firehose little cheaper that way

Just go to a carpet shop and get some old carpet Bruce can then just cut pieces to different sizes for strap protection they just dump old used carpet so sure cost be cheap for you and when it wears out you can toss it out get some more

Straps always go in the rub rail for so they don’t get cut and after time by tightening your straps on the outside they will bend the rub rails in witch keeps loosening your strap as you drive.

You probably already know this, but be sure your second driver is on your insurance, and in your drug consortium. If not that's a big problem. Also. I would definitely have a headache rack on that truck. It will make life easier. Be safe.

If I'm not mistaken the dot will write u a ticket for the straps on the outside of the rub rails

It doesn’t matter if the strap is outside or inside the rail. Sometimes outside the rail is good, other times inside is good. It’s more of a person preference. Although, if the strap is on the inside, you get a bit more of strap force, but it doesn’t matter too much

Hey Bruce, You commented on the straps being outside of the rub rail and that you might get a blast for that. The FMCSR states that ALL load securement must be inboard of the rub rails when practicable. There is s logical reason for this; the rub rail is installed to protect your straps and load securement from contact that could cause them to dislodge and release the securement. One more thing for you to note is that the rub rail DOES NOT have a load rating from the manufacturer so when you attach a hook to the rail, as I saw in the video, the actual load securement strength of that chain or strap is a big fat ZERO. The round spacers and stake pockets are rated above most chain and strap ratings so you can hook onto or wrap around these. Just one more item to keep in mind, If they can figure out where you were in a video, the DOT can use your video to lay and prosecute securement charges because it is public information.

Walk around the truck stops when your parked pick up mud flaps cut them up and make protectors out of them work great

I'm curious as to why you haven't added a headache rack to your truck? I know you only use it for business runs but if you ever have to hard brake it can protect you from equipment slamming into your cab and potentially killing you. Trust me I've seen it happen. But still a beautiful Pete

I always took an old damaged 4" strap, cut it into about 10" sections, then put them under my good straps in all bad spots as "edge protectors" Works well, and you still get a little use from the damaged strap. (I never damaged a worn out strap, always a newer one)

You need a GoPro on top of the sleeper so we can see what the trailer is doing. After watching this unloading you need to invest in a small yard crane.
