It's very obvious that Jacob and his crew care about their craft from the work and videos they show us. But , the fact that they give the lobsters a snack on the way out shows just as much about their personality. I know Jacob always says we call him out on the lobster snacks, but it's such nice and (hopefully) cheap thing to show that you care for the creatures you harvest. Absolutely love your videos Jacob! Wish not only you and your crew, but you and your family the best, too. Good luck!

The fact that in Maine all lobster boats must be owner operated probably has a lot to do with this. If your life is running that boat you care a great deal about the whole lobster fishery.

It’s called tough laws. Don’t think fishermen didn’t start doing this by themselves. Daddy government came along and made up the rules (formed by experts and fishermen to help them out) but there is no such thing as self regulation, which is not a bad thing per se

My cousin lost her husband when their boat went down in the Bay of Fundy. The loss of " the whole family" was a terrible tragedy felt all the way out here in the prairies of Alberta where i am. I love watching you guys because its the closest ive gotten to the fishery itself. Ive never been out and still have family with boats out of Grand Manan. Take care guys, i dont think Harold had a chance of recovering when whe was caught dragging for scallops. I know absolutely nothing about it except for what im told and im told the boat pulled itself under. I have however seen the aftermath and the loss. I think of Sharon ( Harold's widow) when i see you guys doing these marathon sessions because saftey can take a back seat when were tired. I know I've had my share of mishaps over the years as a welder and being wore out is definitely no help. Anyway I love to watch you guys and thank you for bring me along on your trip. Years ago, while fishing the Columbia River for sturgeon, one of our gang, Mike, caught one that was tagged. After getting back to the dock in Illwaco, a college student was checking out the catch, so while Mike went to his car, I asked the young man to chastise him for catching and keeping a tagged sturgeon. I must say he did an excellent job freaking Mike out, telling him that he was in a whole lot of trouble, even threatening jail time. I have never seen such large, worried eyes. He received a history of his fish, and it turns out that that particular fish was a refugee from Russia. It's always a great time freaking out a close friend. Really enjoy your postings.

Thanks for all the hard work you and your crew do Jacob!! I love eating Maine Lobstah for sure, whenever I get the chance!! More so, it's fun knowing cool people are doing the catching too and even though I grew up 1/4 mi from the Atlantic....no way could I do your job. Haha.

If you brought that really old lobster back with you and gave him unlimited food, would he shed?
@elenalizabeth
@elenalizabeth 4 месяца назад
You’re not allowed to keep any that are over 5 inches, they legally have to be put back as the larger ones are a protected species as they are more likely to make the babies with the ladies.

I wonder if you'd be allowed to bring him back to the hatchery to shed and breed as that serves his purpose.

Can you do a video with your wife about what it's like to be married to a lobster fisherman? My favorite video you did is the one where you called her the prettiest egger :)

The fact that you are honest and let the breeding females and really old lobsters go, is really cool. Cleaning off barnacles and giving them a snack before tossing them back into the sea makes this channel extra special. One request: Please toss the fish back more quickly. Holding a fish out of water is like forcibly holding a human's head underwater. Thank you!

its actually a bit different, from my (limited) understanding of fish, as long as they the gills are still wet they can still filter oxygen to some extent. Holding them out of the water for 30 seconds to film a video is probably fine, especially when you see how aquariums will take fish out of water to do xrays and stuff and they are totally fine after

@@goosemoade5813 I remember same, but uncomfortable for sure. I'm not a fan of Steve Irwin yanking animals out of their comfort but one could argue he really spurred a love of animals to extroverted people that really need to be up in someone's business to understand something.

Impressive. OK, I'll say it, I'm impressed. You knew you had double the work load, and you still cared for the lobsters you released. I had pretty much have given up eating lobster. It is back on the menu for me (for a treat). Thank you for showing what sustainable fishing looks like. ❤❤❤❤❤

Jacob, I wish you, your crew, and all your families a safe, healthy, happy and Prosperous New Year. The ocean provides us with so much food and beauty - it is a huge classroom. I began my learning experience with the sea while growing up in Southern California. At age 48 I decided to revisit my favorite sport, which is swimming. After working up to swimming 1½ miles, I got back into the ocean. Thanks to our San Diego Lifeguards, I became more aware of the conditions at our local beaches. The ocean is a place where you can swim past the breakers and be in the wilderness. Respect it, play safe in it, and love it! 🌊🐚🦞

Yesterday I watched a video where you were replacing/repairing tkr runners on the cages. That gave an idea of how they worked, but watching this video, and seeing the traps slung off the side of the boat, gave me a whole he's appreciation of how necessary they are.
