Actually I have seen documentaries and articles about the wild lengths marine biologists have gone to in an effort to get footage of various marine animals, especially from the deep sea, there definitely are cameras that could attach to a standard lobster trap, depth wouldn't likely be an issue, more likely issue would be light.

My home must be in the tail end of a big airstream. I get a couple balloons in my trees every year .They occasionally have a name or even address on them. I have reached out before and let them know that releasing balloons on purpose is not a way to celebrate or remember their loved ones. If you have a death in the family plant a tree for them, don't release memorial balloons. I've had balloons from the same family twice. I feel their pain, but releasing these mylar balloons in memorial is not a good practice. I suggested they plant a tree or save milk cartons(plastic gallon) to have them turned into a park bench. So far no more balloons from that family. It was from Minnesota all the way to michigan that's quite a trip and for it to happen 2 times is quite the feat. Also a balloons with a school post card attached ended up in my tree. I did get to call the elementary school and let them know where it landed. They were studying air currents. It Came from iowa.

I find balloons in the sand dunes of the beach all the time where they got blown out in to the Gulf, then washed up on shore and partially buried in the sand. But how many of them got eaten by turtles or sharks before washing up? How many animals died from getting tangled up in the strings? How many shorebirds or raptors got the ribbons wrapped around their feet/legs or their beaks and drowned or starved? For all the animals that people see being rescued on RU-vid and TikTok, there’s lots more that no one was there to save. Releasing balloons deliberately makes my blood boil. When my kid was little we only bought balloons once a year (and were VERY careful to cut up the ribbons and dispose of it all properly), but now that he’s a teenager, we don’t buy them at all. When they come out with a biodegradable or compostable balloon, I might buy some.

40 years ago, a store had a grand opening in my home town, and they brought in a giant tank of big lobster at a discounted price. I had seen pictures of giant lobsters, and dreamed of eating one. (The things we do when we're young and don't know any better.) I bought the biggest one they had. It was terrible. But it made me realize that not everything has to be harvested - especially when it isn't even good to eat. I don't blame anybody, ever, for harvesting something that is legal to keep. And if I hadn't bought that giant lobster, someone else would have. But I won't lie - it was nice to see that big one in this video go back. That's a tough thing to do when you consider what they sell for, but they really aren't a delicacy when they get that big.

Jacob, TWO questions: When lobsters get that huge, are they still good to eat, or, do they get 'tough?' Does any person ever sell old traps due to not wanting to continue being a lobster fisherman? Y'all have a good day. 😃

Kind of wild to see the contrast between the first old man and the giant. The giant is definitely older than the old man given its size, but clearly the giant's had a much better go of freshening up and shedding and staying healthy. Maybe the old man's injury is what got him, but the crusher on the giant was MEATY.

Like he said, the first lobster just needs to molt. The bigger a lobster is the older it is so the second one is actually older, but it has molted more recently so it looks better.

Jacob is very charismatic. I get a feeling in real life he's a great guy. Grew up eating lobsters. Me and my dad were big seafood fans.

I'm in Utah, the only chance I get to go lobster fishing is through your channel, thank you sir! I I hate those balloons, I drive a trash truck and they float out of there every time I dump them, only to go land out in the wilderness someplace, pop those before you throw them away please!

In our family, after watching so many videos of people finding balloons everywhere and animals choking on them we have collectively decided no more helium balloons. We buy reusable straws too ever since the grandkiddos watched the video of the turtle with a straw in its nose.

@Emeraldwitch30 we have places here that are officially the middle of nowhere, the only signs of man you'll find are those damn balloons, it's a sad thing to see

I won't say I've stopped using them because I wasn't using them anyway. But if I did use them I'd make damn sure they don't get out into the environment. Or just avoid using them period. Last I used a balloon was for a craft project & somewhere is the package of balloons waiting for another project. But it wasn't a helium balloon just regular one & I'd still make sure they didn't get out. Also I heard helium is limited & it's needed for medical uses too.

Maybe it can't take the depth, but couldn't that drone you had help with finding the missing traps? It could even put a grapple directly on a trap, assuming it can carry the weight

Been around the water on midcoast and never knew they could live forever if they could keep shedding,Amazing creatures for sure

It's just nonsense. It's like saying humans could live forever if our bodies were able to replicate perfectly and not have mutations. Eventually our bodies fail us and so to does a lobster's body. The ultimate reason they die is different than ours, but in the end we both die "of old age" because our bodies just can't do it anymore.
