Legal Question: Can you file an order of protection for your client against yourself because you are about to slap some sense into them for wearing the dumbest T-Shirt possible to a court proceeding?

You are the most correct in your responses. Most of us don't understand the legal system because we aren't involved in it. But yet some people think their automatic take isn't ignorant at all. Measure twice, cut once. I don't have a legal parable so I will use that one. Question: Judge Simpson made it clear to the Defense lawyer that he didn't think that she was party to the deception. How much risk did this guy put his attorney at? Could she have been sanctioned? What is her duty to verify this guy's story? I'd love to see that in a segment sometime; the responsibilities of a client to their lawyer. The lawyer's responsibilities are fairly often talked about but what happens when a good lawyer gets a serial liar for a client?

he sentenced him to jail for a NON violent offense. Justifying fines for JAIL is not ok! He drove for 25 years and had no accidents or any other traffic infractions. Shoulda helped him do the proper paperwork and moved along. The crime don't fit the penalty. PPL are allowed to drived after 1-2 duis which is a really problem! wake up

A friend that works in a government office said she played the hearing at their lunch break and they were cheering the judge. People lie and blame government offices for everything and they can't respond because privacy rules. It's amazimg the Judge stood up and called the guy out and stood up for the Sec of State office.

I remember each time i had to go to the dmv office, it’s always crowded and the wait times are crazy. I renewed my license and had to wait 3 hours and i have made an appointment thinking i would save time…

Yeah, he picked the wrong judge to try to get over on. Judge Simpson always checks into things to make sure that the defendant has not been treated unfairly. I have seen cases when they are up for sentencing and the defendant will make accusations of unfairness and Judge Simpson has halted everything to look into the accusations.

Because now everyone is acting like it's obvious but even officers have pointed out not all of them realize that when pulled over without a license the state generates a license number for you then suspends that number to keep track of you. Even the judge in the original hearing said "his license is suspended" not "his driving privileges are suspended." Which is part of the problem if the officer, lawyer, and judge didn't notice that how were we all supposed to know that lol?

The confusion came about when he went arrears on his child support payment and the courts automatically issued orders to suspend/revoke driving privileges against any license from any state. Moreover the 9yr old outstanding bench warrant was for driving without a license...not a suspended license. This man has miss-represented himself to everyone for 25yrs...his church, the courts, his lawyer and the media...that's the problem.

How can you not remember going through the process of taking that test. I had to take it 3 times because I failed the written test first by 1 question. 2nd time I failed because the test examiner was a man hating female. *I know this because she tried telling me I was speeding in a 30 mph zone when my needle never even grazed the 30 mph line.* Then she jumped out and talked trash about me to my wife.

Mom was a waitress and worked with a fellow (the cook) that had an ‘84 black trans-am with the gold firebird and crushed red velvet interior. Ok, it wasn’t a ‘79 and the firebird was gold but it was so close to my dream car! I saw it for the first time right after he bought it, brand new. Mom told him about my dream car and he generously let me check it out. We spent two years teasing each other over that car. I would say: I think you should give me that car!” He’d smile and say, “sure. But your not old enough to drive, so I’ll just hang on to it for you until your ready. I’d agree. Every time I saw him at mom’s work, we’d have a conversation about how “my baby” was doing. The day she took me for my permit, when we got home, that trams-am was in our driveway! Now, I wasn’t naïve enough to think I was actually getting a car. Mom couldn’t afford a junker let alone a trans-am! I could not fathom for the life of me “why” it was here! Some how, she talked him in to letting me DRIVE his trans-am as the first car that I drove! My brothers girlfriend took me to a nearby empty parking lot and let me drive around for about 20 minutes. It was the best freaking day in my life! I hope that he knows just how much it meant it to me and that I properly showed him my gratitude at the time. It probably doesn’t matter but he was a black man and I was white girl. I will never forget his over the top kindness to me that day. It still brings me to tears. BEST. DAY. EVER!

Same, I remember everything about the driving exam.

I mean, it's the job of the lawyer to do that. The judge usually shouldn't be creating bias by researching the case. Now, since it's traffic court, that doesn't matter so much here, but the state bringing charges should have already had this all laid out and never should have given the judge the opportunity to need to research this. But credit to this judge regardless. He saw something was off and realized the rest of the people involved were incompetent, so he did it himself.

In some cases, corruption is so ingrained in the fabric of things in some countries and/or societies that it doesn’t even register to its people (Romania was at one point an example of this, though I’m unsure if that has since been dealt with), others are so strict on it, that people go insane with a single wiff. The states of an interesting combo between the two. Maybe it’s partly because from the ground up, it was built with separations of powers in mind, and relatively quickly with strong federalism in mind (which in both cases isn’t unique to the states, but is rarer than one might think, including other self-proclaimed federations in how they de facto tend to work), hard to say.

Based on a study by the University of Michigan, a full 12% of convicted felons were actually innocent of the charges they were convicted of. That is not to say that they were not guilty of some other felony, but the prisoners were demonstrably innocent of a least one of the charges they were found guilty of in court.
