In the middle of the exact same project :) (rapido/lgx lite) wish i could get my hands on some of that filament. I printed the larger rear towers then found out the 3.0 eva carriage uses the smaller ones. This project really appealed to me as it's a really cheap way to get a high end corexy. I self sourced all my own parts.... wish i had not. For others thinking of this just buy a quality kit :)
That looks like an exciting project. I will follow it as it promises valuable information, especially how you will install and set up Klipper. The hotend looks excellent but a bit overkill? We will see how you integrate and use it. Keep the videos coming, I am all eyes and ears.
Hello! I’m INSANELY excited that the YT Algo popped your channel up! With that I’ll cut to it! I bought an Anet A8 Plus (don’t tease, how was I to know 😂) two years ago and a Raspberry Pi (coolest thing Ive ever done compute wise… hooked!) and here we are. I JUST purchased the Sovol SV05, obviously because as above I’m insanely cheap, it was the same price the Anet was two years ago and insanely more advanced! That said, I wanted a machine with a “standard board” (creality 32 bit) that i could look forward to moving to mainsail/octoprint - KLIPPER! That was the main driver as well as I figured, this would be a great in between step to building a Voron which is on my future list! Now, I knew this wasn’t a core xy however, again, baby steps… It appears, the Zero G MercuryOne mod you’ve chosen actually will convert this printer to a core xy and? I freakin love the mod to linear rails for one. Anyway, I could go on and on, will definitely join the discord! Was extremely surprised to see this as, like I said, the biggest reason I bought this printer was moving from bed slinger to cube, loved the idea of the bed being “fixed” and only moving up/down and, it looked like a great candidate to move to Klipper! I will be following all your content for sure. THANK YOU!!!!!
Looks like this will be another interesting 3D printing channel. 👍 Would you say it is cheaper to get an Ender5 and upgrade it like this, or just built a "SimpleCore" for example?
Hi John, thank you very much! The price difference between buying an Ender 5 and upgrading it to MercuryOne and building a printer from scratch is negligible. If you already have a Ender 5 or similar laying around (as I did), Mercury One is a great option. However, if you are starting from scratch, I would highly recommend building an entire printer, as you can customize it to your exact specifications. I can recommend the SimpleCore (future videos coming about that) as well as the Voron Trident as excellent DIY machines. If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out on the discord!
John, I just got the Sovol SV05 and they use, a LOT of Creality hardware, and frankly, the build, the ease of finishing it when you get it, and the quality, was off the hook. I’ve got a big project I’m in the middle of, and in a couple weeks have printed nearly 80 hours worth of parts. I may, get another one. I got it Black Friday for 279.00. Anyway, there you go, take a look at it. Also, Aurora Tech channel does a great review on it.
